Hello ladies,

I was wondering if I could pick your brains regarding appropriate female fertility tests fo check hormone levels for ttc. I also have irregular cycles/possible pcos.

I had a full screen in my early 30s inc AMH, LH, FSH and testosterone. All normal but I did have poly cystic ovaries on an ultrasound. I'm now nearly 40 and coming to the end of a two month cycle. I just wanted to see if I could have the tests checked to make sure there's no issues. I've also just had a mmc and a cp.

The GP didn't know what AMH was (a little surprised) but he did order the other tests. Is there anything else they should be testing for?

I was on the whole pretty frustrated with the doctor. He didn't seem to know anything about pcos. I asked what else I could do to regulate my cycles he said nothing and that he normally just puts woman on the pill but since I'm ttc that won't work. It also looks like a DHs SA has been lost too which is frustrating as we couldn't dtd for 48 hrs before I ovulated on the sample day.

Any thoughts or experiences with fertility testing would be greatly appreciated! Xx

You’re right @InDreamland There is often a silence around Miscarriage. Let’s not forget the reason many people keep schtum until 12 weeks is in case the baby doesn’t survived. So many mc aren’t talked about. And what about after? Well it seems so rare that anything goes wrong later that it is shocking to people. It obviously hadn’t occurred to this woman (and many others) that whilst I’d been pregnant and had a baby, I don’t have a baby at home. In my experience you don’t hear about stillbirth until it happens to you and then everyone knows someone it happened to!

Sorry I’m ranty

@MyHeartIsBroken I’m sorry I didn’t see all the updates before I posted earlier as I was on the train with limited signal. I’m so sorry you are having these worries. I do hope everything is ok but think it is a good idea go to EPU if you feel like it even if it is just to set your mind at rest.

KnitKitty · 03/05/2019 17:20

@InDreamland Yes, acupuncture could have affected when you ovulate. My cycles got a bit shorter and started running like clock-work as soon as I started acupuncture.

InDreamland · 03/05/2019 17:15

@AliceRR sorry you had such an awkward time shopping. Just shows how people have no idea what can happen or just don't think. I've had similar when I've referred to being pregnant then people comment or AJ questions about my baby and I have to tell then.......... awkward! Plus me trying not to cry.

@MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue please get yourself to EPU. Hope you are okay x

InDreamland · 03/05/2019 17:10

Wow @Laney79 that is a really strong line. Congratulations! Fx for a sticky bean and a healthy 40 weeks!

@Daisyboo70 congratulations! Fx this one sticks. Those lines are definitely clear.

@Russkispy so sorry you had such a shit time. I hope you're being looked after.

So I'm 36 hours since my earlier than usual positive OPK. Had 25 IC one step pregnancy tests delivered today. No idea why I thought it was a good idea to buy them! I'm just tempting fate. I already have 5 FRERs and 1 CB digital in a drawer and now these. I'm losing my mind!!!! Second acupuncture session tomorrow afternoon. I wonder if the acupuncture or the antibiotics have affected this month's ovulation and brought it forward?

AliceRR · 03/05/2019 15:54

Sorry to talk about myself but would like to share another awkward instance of bra shopping / being in the real world

(Cannot really ignore that I just had a baby as I probably look like I just had a baby and am in maternity jeans but should probably stop as it doesn’t help and actually they’re slipping down now)

Here’s an extract of our conversation -

Her: What brings you here?
Me: My boobs have grown since I got pregnant etc.
Her: How old’s your baby?
Me: I had her on 13 Feb so nearly three months
Her: are you feeding?
Me: No
Her: have you fed at all?
Me: no
(Later)
Her: What’s baby’s name?
(It felt too late at this stage to tell her baby is dead)
Me: Ruby
Her: Is Ruby your first?
Me: Yes
Her: And your last?
Me: I hope not (thinking I REALLY hope not and it’s one of my biggest fears)

I actually felt quite upset at one point

The woman was otherwise so lovely and helpful but how does one deal with this!? After the awkward sitch at the dentist when he asked “who’s looking after the baby?” and he told him and then it got bit awkward I wished I’d made something op

Oh and then the woman in the next cubicle was talking about how she’s 36 weeks pregnant

Otherwise highly recommend Bravissimo! 🤦‍♀️

teachermam · 03/05/2019 15:33

Hey I'm 39 TTC 3
Just had an early mis at 5 weeks last week

I had 2 misses at 29 and I've 2 kids 7 and 4
I got pregnant after 5/6 cycles so hoping it won't take long and it sticks as I'm only gonna try for a few months

frillyfarmer · 03/05/2019 15:31

@MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue it might be nothing but please go get checked out if you're worried, with your history EPU will not mind scanning you, especially if you have pain xx

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 03/05/2019 15:03

@Russkispy sorry you had such a hard day made even harder. I would have shouted too! I hope you are resting up and have plenty of support xxx

@frillyfarmer absolutely the right thing to cancel your friend! And you don't need to explain yourself to anyone. Thinking of you xxx

Amazing news on all the BFPs!! Tentative congrats and hoping for you all.

Sadly for me I think another ectopic is looking more likely as I've been having pain in my right side today. Going to call the EPU if it gets worse.

Daisyboo70 · 03/05/2019 13:12

I know @frillyfarmer trying my hardest not to test again for a few days

frillyfarmer · 03/05/2019 13:03

@Daisyboo70 your tests look fine, but if you can I would really try not to obsess over them xx

Mistymeow · 03/05/2019 11:26

@Beaglemum93 really pleased your scan went well, you must be so relieved.
@russkispy sorry that you had a rough time at the hospital, especially being nil by mouth all day. Glad you didn't have to stay overnight and you are recovering.
@daisyboo70 I think your lines look fine, they aren't faint. Would it help if you took a digital in a day or so to see the word "pregnant"?
@alicerr glad you had a good day, you deserve it.
@strawberrye I know how you feel. With the combination of infertility and miscarriages I wonder if I will ever get to hold my own baby. It's always harder at the end of a cycle but you will feel better in a few days when all the rubbish pms symptoms ease off.
@knitkitty super impressed you managed to grow an onion, all of my plants have died! Exciting that you are back ttc. It will be your turn soon.
@bluebelltulip eek, exciting. Congrats!
@tinypaws great news about the vitamin d levels. Interesting what the various ivf clinics have told you. I'm curious to see what our NHS ivf consultant says after I have the rmc appointment in July.
@laney79 so thrilled for you! I really hope this is third time lucky. We both were in that "unlucky" percentage of suffering two mmc in a row and about to embark ivf, so it gives me so much hope to see your news! I always felt, despite you being concerned about certain test results, that you would conceive again. EVERYTHING crossed!
@frillyfarmer glad the bleeding is easing off. What a rotten time you have had. Absolutely the right thing to do to cancel your friend. You need to put yourself first.

frillyfarmer · 03/05/2019 11:13

@TinyPaws yes I went to my GP yesterday, I've been bleeding since Wednesday.

I just got the impression that because I've got a live child, the attitude is that there is no issue and I'm just unlucky. I mean, I hope I have just been unlucky and it's third time lucky for me, but I need some assurance because I don't want to go through this a third time.

TinyPaws · 03/05/2019 10:51

So sorry @frillyfarmer. I think you're completely reasonable to cancel. Is it worth going to see your GP? If nothing else at least there will be a record of this pregnancy.

frillyfarmer · 03/05/2019 10:28

Congratulations on all the BFPs! I hope you're right @Laney79 - 3rd time lucky 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I've bled a lot overnight and HPT this morning was almost completely negative, so hopefully this MC doesn't drag on for as long as the last one.

I'm meant to be at lunch today with my friend who is 10weeks. I've just cancelled and I'm ignoring her calls. I'm the worst friend ever but I'm just so unbelievably hurt and pissed off that I'm having this run of shit.

AliceRR · 03/05/2019 08:52

Congrats on the BFPs @Laney79
@Daisyboo70 @Bluebelltulip

Hope you’re ok @frillyfarmer @Russkispy

How are you feeling @MyHeartIsBrokenButIhaveSomeGlue

Hope everyone else is ok

TinyPaws · 03/05/2019 08:44

In other news my vitamin D levels are back and they are now 126! So something I did must have worked.

KnitKitty · 03/05/2019 08:27

@Russkispy I am so sorry to hear your news. Huge, huge hugs. xxx

@strawberrye The postgraduate diploma sounds very distracting indeed... but possibly not the best reduced-stress option! Wink Well done you though; how's that going?
I'd love to get a bit more green-fingered. I just need to get off my bum and do it! I did plant an onion which sprouted a while back and it's now flowering so I should be able to plant its seeds now and grow more onions! That's quite exciting!
How are things going for you Stawberrye? (Edit: Just seen your second message about wanting to give up. I totally understand how you feel. But don't lose hope. Hugs xxx)

@moonpeace That's really interesting. I've wondered if I have an overly keen womb as I got pregnant 5 times in 8 cycles... I guess it's not a bad thing getting pregnant easily, but it is if the embryos aren't viable; it's such a toll on your mental health! (And fluctuating hormones). I've been getting acupuncture for 8 months now; and generally looking after my body and mind. Hopefully the next one is a sticky one! I hope so for you too!

@MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue I'm really pleased you're getting a scan. Best of luck. xxx

@frillyfarmer thinking of you and hoping for the best. Stay strong xxx

@Laney79 Well done for getting through the scan. Sounds like you did really well. xx
And OMG! Congrats on the BFP!!! I really hope this is third time lucky!! xxx

@Beaglemum93 Wonderful news! Congrats! xxx

@Daisyboo70 Fingers crossed for you that everything is progressing. xxx

@Bluebelltulip Congrats! xxx

Really lovely to hear people's good news today. I hope everyone has a lovely day and enjoy the bank holiday weekend.
I'll be picking up my prescription tomorrow... Don't think I've ever been excited about going to the pharmacy before! Haha!

Newbie21 · 03/05/2019 08:00

Congratulations to all those with BFPs, lovely news x fingers crossed for sticky ones x

TinyPaws · 03/05/2019 07:51

Wow so many BFPs! Congrats @Laney79, @Daisyboo70 and @Bluebelltulip!

Bluebelltulip · 03/05/2019 07:20

Great news Beaglemum93, congratulations laney79. I've not used those but look positive to me Daisy

Glad you had a good day yesterday @AliceRR.

I got a much more convincing positive this morning, feeling excited and terrified in equal measure this morning.

VenusStarr · 03/05/2019 07:20

@Russkispy I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience, hope you get lots of rest Flowers

Omg @Laney79! That's amazing 🎉 congratulations. Fingers crossed for 3rd time lucky 🍀

@Daisyboo70 Today's is slightly darker. I wonder if you had late implantation? If you're getting positives on other tests too, albeit faint, that's a good sign 🤞

Congratulations @Beaglemum93 :)

Sorry you're not feeling hopeful this month @strawberrye, I hope you're wrong x

This thread is giving me hope that it will happen for me. Only cd3 but want to start feeling positive. Have a good day everyone x

strawberrye · 03/05/2019 07:07

@Beaglemum93 congratulations on your happy news

@Laney79 this is fantastic news! So pleased that going down the IVF route has triggered Murphy's law for you. Fingers crossed for a healthy and happy nine months

As for me I'm coming to the end of cycle 20 now TTC#1 and don't think it's happening this month, surprise surprise. Starting to think I should just give up on having kids and move on with my life because I can't go on feeling like this for years to come.

Russkispy · 03/05/2019 06:58

@Laney79 thank you! And massive congratulations! Fingers crossed!

Daisyboo70 · 03/05/2019 06:49
