When did I conceive?

Hello, I am trying to work out the date I conceived, and was wondering if anyone could help/guide.

I ovulated on the 14th & 15th Dec. I had sex on the 15th. The same month I also had sex on the 5/6th and the 19th. My assumption is that it would have been the 15th, but would be keen to know if there is a chance it could have been on one of the other dates.
As an addition, I took the morning after pill on the 20th as I had a brief change of heart about getting pregnant (I’m okay now though!)
Thanks in advance :)

The American one I saw claimed 99% accuracy. Suppose it depends on the method. Hopefully someone with more experience can point you in the right direction.

Hi all,

I've been looking at the prenatal paternity tests too. There are some that are invasive and some that are done by testing the mothers blood with a swab from the potential father.

Does anyone know about the last option and whether it's legitimate? It all seems to be online organizations rather than actual medical centers which worries me slightly... sorry for changing tract a bit. It's more desirable because you seem to be able to do it earlier than the invasive tests, plus its 100% safe. However if they are less accurate, it might render it pointless...

Just saw an American company that does paternity testing at 7 weeks. I'm sure it costs a lot of money and I don't know if it's available here, but start looking into these options.

A surge doesn't definitely mean ovulation, and we know there is sometimes a surge just before your period, but is it common to get another surge 3-4 days after your 'normal' ovulation time? Does anyone know?

I think your regular cycles, ovulation tests and morning after pill suggest it's more likely to be your partner's. You can't be certain yet. Does he know about all this?

ShowOfHands · 11/01/2019 12:36

People post all the time with positive opks before their period hoping they're pregnant. Occasionally they are, usually they aren't. A surge doesn't definitely mean ovulation.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/01/2019 10:36

Op you have approx 72 hours from taking a test to get pregnant. Up to 48 hours to ovulate and then another 24 hours for the egg to stay alive. So if you had sex more than 72 hours after a positive opk it’s extremely unlikely that that man is the father.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/01/2019 10:33

But the op doesn't know when she ovulated. If you do an ov stick the day before your period, it will come back positive. It shows a hormone surge, not ovulation itself.

No it would not show a positive!

Charlottesweb8 · 11/01/2019 08:27

Hey both, yes I thought the ov sticks meant that I was ovulating, but it transpires it most likely means I ovulated 24 hours later. Which is why it's now a little less certain when I conceived. I have an appointment at a wellwomen clinic today to talk this through with a professional.
Thanks all for your input and support, I will update on here when I have one.

She says she 'definitely ovulated 14th/15th'.

ShowOfHands · 11/01/2019 07:33

NoWordForFluffy · 10/01/2019 17:34

But an egg is only viable for 24 hours, so sex on 15th is far more likely if that's when you ovulated.

If you ovulated on 15th, 16th or 17th, the egg wouldn't have been viable on 19th.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

HJWT · 10/01/2019 15:02

@Charlottesweb8 you will need a DNA test, sperm can live up to 5 days so even if it was the 19th it may still be his.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2019 11:37

You have conceived a wanted baby op and the chances of it being the 19th are low.
Don’t be too hard on yourself.

8DaysAWeek · 10/01/2019 11:17

It's much more likely to be the 15th than the 19th. Of course the 19th isn't impossible. What a horrible position to be in OP :(

Charlottesweb8 · 10/01/2019 11:11

I have one friend who is currently pregnant and once had a termination (she is also training to be a midwife), who is helping me through this.

I feel so guilty, for my unborn baby, my partner, all the women who can’t conceive and here I am having to consider an abortion due to being selfish and stupid. I just wish I could turn back time.

Charlottesweb8 · 10/01/2019 11:08

It’s a good question, I was ttc with my partner at the time.
But for a very brief period, I was very confused as someone I used to love came back into my life, but I realised how stupid (and drunk) I had been, hence the map.
Sorry it’s prob a bit confusing and like an episode of EastEnders 😞

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2019 11:02

Ttc .

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2019 11:02

It’s most likely the 15th but the 19th not impossible . Ovulation sticks are normally used if you are tcc why did you have unprotected sex if you are not ?

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/01/2019 10:56

I'm sorry you are in this position, it was a mistake and I'm sure it's one you will learn from.
Do you have support or someone you feel comfortable talking to?

Charlottesweb8 · 10/01/2019 10:50

That is sadly the position I am in. I’m absolutely gutted and feel so ashamed.

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/01/2019 10:48

This story sounds like it could of been written by a close friend of mine, she made a mistake, she had the MAP, still ended up pregnant.. couldn't be sure and in the very early stages still she decided it was best to not go ahead with the pregnancy.

Charlottesweb8 · 10/01/2019 10:47

I took the map the following day (within 18 hours). My cycle is about 29 days and fairly regular

OP posts:
Lymphy · 10/01/2019 10:43

Ok, I thought there was something, you shouldn’t get nasty comments, when did you take the MAP? How long is your cycle usually?

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/01/2019 10:36

Morning after pill can be 95% effective if taken within 24 hrs

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2019 10:32

You cannot rule out the 19th. The MAP fails. You do not know who the father is and will need a DNA test.
