Congratulations Cozy! As you can tell from the title of this thread we're all trying to conceive so not sure if we're the right crowd to ask about your chances. Many of us have suffered losses and some of them were probably caused by poor egg quality due to our age. And it is a well known fact the risks of something going wrong are higher.
That being said, we have had a lady here a few months ago who conceived at 43 and is probably nearing her due date soon, I know someone who's had a baby at 43 and my grandmother conceived her last at 44 so it's definitely possible and many women out there go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.
There's not much you can do at this stage but wait so I'd just relax, take some good pregnancy vitamins and hope for the best really. If you'd like you can ask your gp to refer you to your local epu (early pregnancy unit) for a scan to see if things are going according to plan (by 7 weeks you should be able to hear the heartbeat) rather than wait until the 12 week scan but that's about all you can do at the moment.

Hi ladies, I’m a first timer on these chats. Who else would understand the motions? Grin. Age 44 and just over 6wks now. After several very faint home pregnancy strip tests, and a negative at the GP, AF didnt show after 42 days so dr ran a blood test that showed up positive (My cycle is usually 26-31days). I’m a little stunned to say the least as I was mentally preparing myself for early stages of menopause given my irregular period last couple of years.. but this time round my usual premenstrual symptoms felt different. I knew. I think a woman just knows. My instinct was whispering ‘you’re pregnant’. My partner is in denial and thinks it’s all in my head.. I haven’t told him about the blood test yet. He’s away at work and I prefer a face to face on that one.
So what’s the likelyhood of this going all the way and what should I be concerned about? I’m getting a little shooting pain on the left side... trying not to think the worst after reading tons of threads and stuff on the web.

Orchid222 · 29/11/2018 23:14

Presh- my good friend had 3 follicles at 30! But if one is progressing well that might be all you need? Remember the quality is more important than quantity. What's your doc saying? When's your next IUI? Fingers crossed for us all x

Petra- I was the same as you and wanted it to happen naturally. Gave it 1,5yrs and frankly the thought of it never happening and my ds being an only child scared me more than going the medical route so here I am.
My down-reg scan done, looking ok, 8 follicles in total so let's see how they react and how many eggs we get.

Snowie - so sorry to hear about your chemical:( hope you’re ok.

I’ve just ordered Solgar 200 ubiquinol from eBay. A much better price than Amazon but still so expensive!

Hope everyone is ok tonight. Nothing to report here. I’m about 10/11dpo and my only symptom is a slightly rapid heartbeat. It’s quite normal for me tho in the luteal phase. Apparently it’s the progesterone? Anyone else notice this?

I know that the sperm can live up to 5 or 6 days inside the tubes but I’ve honestly no idea about time taken to swim up there.... my gcse biology didn’t cover that😆

Chatbash72 · 29/11/2018 21:37

I took 100 ubiquinol for 2 months but then wasn't able to get from the place I wanted and just wasn't sure which brand to get off amazon. Holland & B had am offer on CoQ10 last month so were taking 240 ( 120x2 per day) but this month on 200 per day, pre conception vits, omega 3,6,9 and orange vit spray from H&B on offer..
good luck to everyone and yes I also heard that the speed need to go through a process after ejaculation before egg meeting x

Kintan · 29/11/2018 19:53

I’m taking 400mg if the CoQ10. I get them from Amazon.
Sorry about your chemical snowie that really sucks.
KahFen both times I’ve been pregnant it has been from DTD two days before ovulation. Not on purpose, but that’s just the way things worked out those cycles. I think if you are going for it every other day from day 8 to until your period is due then there should always be sperm ready and waiting for when you ovulate.
Hope everyone has had a good day, nearly the weekend, phew! x

Floofsquidge · 29/11/2018 19:24

@KahFen sperm can survive in the body for 5 days.

PetraRabbit · 29/11/2018 18:56

KahFen....I could be wrong but I think I recently read that sperm need 12 hours 'inside' after release to mature enough to be capable of fertilising an egg. So they might arrive in 45 minutes but they won't be up to the job for another half day. I think this info is positive for you? Anyone want to correct me if I'm wrong??

In terms of ubiquinol I took none before my MMC- I kicked myself- and since April I've been on 200 or 300. I buy from Amazon. The Health Thru Nutrition brand in a white/ green tub. It always seems to be the best balance of good reviews and decent price. When I conceived my DC I was 41 and had been taking some basic Q10 and that worked for me clearly at the time. I'm 2 years older now and willing to invest in the pricy stuff.

Presh- don't make assumptions yet! Good luck!

So many people here taking the medical route. It kind of scares me as I just want this to happen naturally.

Presh12345 · 29/11/2018 18:42

Had scan today. 3 follicles seen but 2 quite small and only 1 really progressing. So worried in case it is too late. I'm only turned 40.

KahFen · 29/11/2018 18:23

@Rose68 I am 300 ubiquinol too. Although sometimes I run out of money and go to 200 for a week until I have money for new lot. Such expensive little brown pills! I imagine they are cheaper online but haven't sourced them there yet. Have a lovely weekend in bonnie Scotland :)

@Snowie3 that is so rough. I feel for you. I had one of those a couple of cycles ago. Really not fun. The higher the hope the bigger the fall ... but if we didn't have hope or belief we would achieve very little. I hope the scan goes well tomorrow. Sending strength.

I got my Vit D spray from Holland and B today ... it is on offer at the moment my lovelies so get on down!! No idea what flavour it is though! Hmm ... earwax?!!

I did some data crunching the other day ... turns out I have ovulated later than I thought according to the temps this month. Interesting!

Also ... I only just realised that sperm don't need two days to get to the egg like I thought (doh!) ... they can do it in 45 mins if they are fast. I had assumed it is too late to do the deed on day of ov or even day before. What an absolute charlie as my grandad would say! So unless my man has Duracell type sperm that just keep on swimming and live for 3 days plus then this month probably isn't going to happen as we did the deed a bit too early! Lol!!

I am finding it really quite funny how little I know .... but I am learning. Learning feels good. Should never have dropped biology in year 9! :)

Cleozeta · 29/11/2018 17:18

What brands do you all use? It's so expensive!

CritterTamer · 29/11/2018 15:13

300 here too, plus 50 that was in my preconception vits, so 350. For the last month I was actually on 500 as couldn’t get hold of 300s.

Orchid222 · 29/11/2018 15:03

Rose I've been taking 300 for as long as I remember. Didn't seem to make any difference but hopefully it'll help for ivf

Rose68 · 29/11/2018 13:03

Thanks Cleo, fortunately I have ordered a large pot of 100, so I’m guessing it’s okay to take 2 or 3 a day. Thank you x

Cleozeta · 29/11/2018 12:45

Rose - I was taking 100 before my 1st mc the 200 until my chemical, thinking of upping it to 300, it starts with an egg book recommends 300 for 40+
Enjoy your weekend away.

Russkispy - good luck!

Russkispy · 29/11/2018 11:08

Thank you @BooseysMom and @Rose68 ! Enjoying your weekend! Flying home on Saturday but for different reasons. Although it's very cold and snowing already and Christmas market season started. See how my little one reacts to Christmas trees and lights. Look forward to it.

Rose68 · 29/11/2018 10:13

Please could I ask how much uniquinol people are generally taking? I was taking 200 the month I got preggers (before that nothing), I have just ordered 100 cause 200 is out of stock.
I got the vitamin d spray & I don’t like it, mint flavour... grrrrr should have got orange.
Good luck Russkispy & Presh!
We are off to Edinburgh for a romantic weekend away.
xxx

BooseysMom · 29/11/2018 09:56

@Letsdothis43..haven't heard from you for awhile..how are you?

@Snowie3..sorry to hear about your chemical x

Good luck @Russkispy!

Cleozeta · 28/11/2018 20:44

Snowie - sorry to hear you had a chemical. I had one last cycle too, so I understand how truly gutting it can be.
On the plus side, we got pregnant, we can do it again.

Cleozeta · 28/11/2018 20:41

Weasle - the symptoms I found were - annoyingly - pregnancy symptoms. Cramps, extra cm, tiredness, nausea, mood swings, no period.
Nature can be an arse.

Loopyloopy · 28/11/2018 19:53

Thanks @peanutbuttercrumpets! I'm in a stressful job with night shifts at the moment, which I'm sure is not helping. I go back to my usual job soon, so things may happen then.

Chatbash72 · 28/11/2018 19:34

Oh @Snowie3 I'm so sorry x

Orchid222 · 28/11/2018 17:24

Snowie- sorry about the test turning negative and af arriving and good luck with the scan, let us know how you get on. There are quite a few of us now going through ivf, fingers crossed it works for us all!
