Over 40 ttc - winter baby dust for me!

Why - wow thats a screw up then. Glad its something 'fixable' though looking on the plus side. And someone's going to get in trouble for that administrative error I bet.
At least they are able to help you now, fingers crossed this sets you back up to normal.

I've just left the GPs. Good job I went. I've got dangerously low vitamin b12 levels and have had since at least July when I had my over 40 health check. Apparently they prescribed an urgent course of injections but no one rang me to tell me.. No wonder I feel like shit. It can also cause temporary infertility. I'm so cross.

It was a really frustrating appointment at first. He told me that women can still have children at 50 and that I should come back after a year and a half of TTC!! I challenged him and so he read through my notes and said well the B12 deficiency may have impacted but now that's sorted you should be OK... I was like, what B12 deficiency? He said, you had the injections in August. A prescription was done for you! Erm no?

At this point he suddenly couldn't do enough for me and is doing a full set of bloods including FSH, LH and oestrogen.

I don't think reading mc stats is helpful anyway, as for starters I think they are mostly wrong, and also it varies person by person, plus stress can raise risk of mc and reading about mc can raise stress! I did too much of this before my mmc and now regret it. Next time (if I am lucky enough to get another bfp) I will run with the fact that I am pg and just bloody enjoy it. I've learnt that by not connecting to the pregnancy until a certain stage to protect yourself for emotional trauma if it fails, makes no difference at all.

Thanks again everyone for the welcome and positive comments. I've read forums since I started TTC #1, 6+ years ago, but only just now realised how helpful it is to actually join the conversation and share experiences. Reading back through the thread I am inspired by such a supportive, resilient and knowledgable group of women.
I'm going to read up over the coming weeks about what I can do to boost my chances/egg quality etc, and see when my cycle returns.

I wish I'd known that the risk of MMC was not as low as I'd thought (@Cleozeta I'd also read the 1% stat online ... I can't remember if it was 1% of MC or 1% of pregnancies, but either way I felt like it was a small risk). Not that it would have changed the outcome, but I would have been more prepared for the possibility.
@Floofsquidge I was also checking my MC risk on datayze.com all the time and thought I'd made it to about 2% risk.

I started going every 2 weeks, but since my chemical TCM guy has wanted to see me every 10 days to change the perscription. I get to enjoy 2 cups of yummy tea a day.

So every 10 days currently costs about £80 a pop

Cleo - thanks. Hope ovulation hits soon for you. How often are you having the acupuncture now? How many cups of the yummy tea do you drink in a day? I’ve been going weekly but I think I’m going to change to fortnightly as it’s an expensive passtime.

@karryk thank you for your message. I've got GP in half an hour but I know its going to be pointless. Feel so low. I hope you can get an early scan; if not they do them near me privately for £50 so it may be worth investing?

Just hanging about in limbo here...no symptoms beside breathlessness and being very tired. I had bag loads of symptoms for the 2 mmc and the successful pregnancy so no idea what's going on this time 🤔

I might give the gp a call later next week and see if I can get an early scan just to put me out of my misery...

Thank you mimosa. Hope you are doing ok. I feel the same about my cycles as the moment, just grateful for each and every ovulation! Currently cd13 and hoping to ovulate soon, but this time of the cycle always gives me the collywobbles. I love the 2ww as at least at that stage ov has happened and I've done all I can. TCM is great too, still loving that.

Better news today! My little embie is progressing nicely and already ahead of today’s stage! Already divided into 5 cells on day 2. My little fighter! I got a video and picture of it! Got all emotional!

Wishing - so sorry to hear your sad news. No 5 mc's are not common and that's a lot of times to have your heart broken. I hope you are ok and have people to talk to. Our local hospital has a really good councelling service to those suffering losses, might be worth seeing if yours has anything like that? I hope the new tests show up something. Have you looked into killer cells testing?

Boosey - fsh absolutely can change in that time. May is a while ago now. I've had 3 hormone tests now, came out as 10 in Aug, 18.4 in Jan and 10.4 in Oct, so it can change, it's also widely known that fsh can fluctuate, so it would be more useful to get 3 months in a row for a clearer idea, but most gp's won't do that.

Reality - I also had no LH surge last cycle and AF came earlier, I wonder if it's related? I definitely ovulated as I had a good temp rise. Maybe it was a crap egg or something? Hopefully next cycle we'll get an LH surge and cycle will return to a reasonable length

@WishingonaStar77 ahh I'm so sorry to hear your news. Can't imagine how you're feeling right now. Is there any reason why they scanned that early? I haven't even told my docs yet as after my CP i was told to wait til 2 weeks after a missed period.

So it was someone's 40th in the office today, and they always do a little gift giving and presentation by one of the managers. However this one manager thought it would be funny to add a load of menopause jokes in there. I don't think he realised how rude and hurtful he was being....

AF arrived for me today. Am very sad but also grateful to at least still be having periods and ovulating (even if ovulation has become unpredictable). Looking forward to cycle #2 on TCM. If nothing else it’s super relaxing.

@Orchid222 the scratch needs to be done between days 17 - 21 of the cycle before your IVF cycle (so you will have a period in between)

@karryk thank you.. I have had some tests which came back clear. Funnily enough the more mc you have the more tests they are prepared to do! I'm now at 5 so am eligible for more advanced tests..

Trouble is it's on NHS time and we were told in Sept to try for 6 months before considering IVF and genetic testing.. which costs mega £££

@crittertamer by the way MS is a really good sign. I had it with DS couldnt keep warer down to the point I thought I had food poisoning and went to gp to be told I was 6 weeks preggers!

@Crittertamer I’m dreading it to be honest but I’m just gonna have to do it and DH will be there as we have to have bloods same day.

I’ve heard it’s a bit of a shock going from private to nhs. I’m in two minds as to whether to pay privately ( on the basis it works!) clinic for treatment after as I’m in a bad area for nhs or drive to Buckinghamshire NHS. Just make sure you keep on top of it and chase them. If not just keep hassling GP that it’s not been done! Get it all on record ( sorry the lawyer in me!) I had my son In Devon in 2002 and care was impeccable. Went to hospital In July this year in different county and was shocking !

I have been away from the computer a bit as work getting heavy and teenage son needing a lot of support at home at the moment ... but have just come back to read how you are all doing ...
Tears are in my eyes right now ... not only at the sad stories but also and mainly at the incredible daily courage being shown here. All of you, trying so so hard, keeping on going despite statistics and fears and total heartbreak, still finding time to look after others in your families and support each other. I will send proper messages tomorrow as have a day off finally but I just wanted to say that I admire you all and I am so damned proud to be here with you and if Father Christmas could somehow see to it that we get some babydust for Christmas I would love that.
