To wonder WTH is wrong with me?

looking for some advice. I’m 36 and have recently started having irregular periods and started getting chin hair :( I thought this was just part of getting older and maybe perimenopause, but my period is now 2 weeks late, I’m tired all the time and have a horrible peppery, sometimes metally taste in my mouth all the time. I’ve taken 2 pregnancy tests, a week apart, both of which are negative.
Does anyone have any experience of these symptoms and it not been pregnancy? Could it be menopause or PCOS? Some sort of hormone imbalance? I’m also very overweight, but my weight has been steady for a few years.
I do have a drs appointment booked, but there aren’t any available for a couple of weeks and I am starting to get worried that there’s something really wrong with me!

Ok so I’m not pregnant.

I started getting quite intense pains yesterday around by my ovary and extending out to the top of my leg and bottom of stomach. Given this pain and the lack of periods I went to the walk in centre, where they made me do another pregnancy test which was negative. They felt my stomach and have told me I probably have an ovarian cyst and that I will have to go to the hospital next week to get a scan to check it out.

Thank you everyone for your advice though, you’ve been very helpful x

OP just a couple of thoughts; the test looks positive to me so I'm looking forward to seeing your best one! Also, please check your multivitamin to see if it has vitamin a in it, if so you need to swap to a pregnancy one as vitamin a can be harmful during pregnancy.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 19/10/2018 23:56

If you would be 7-8 weeks then the line should be very dark and clear by now. Is it not possible you are much earlier?

AnyaaaaaaaaaaaarghMumsnet · 19/10/2018 16:48

Hi everyone,

We've moved this to conception at OP's request.

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 13:40

I’ve ordered some first response ones from amazon as getting out to the shops is going to be awkward now and it’s getting a bit expensive buying them from local shop, so hopefully they’ll be here ASAP!
Captskippy I was quite shocked at how not bothered the Dr was too tbh. I think the reason she wasn’t concerned about a blood test is because I went in concerned I might be going through premature menopause, not that I’m pregnant. When the dr said you’re probably pregnant despite the negative tests and to try another one in the morning I was relieved, as whilst we haven’t been trying I didn’t like the idea of having the option of having more children taken away by going through early menopause. I did tell her it wouldn’t be a problem if I’m pregnant, but that I’d obviously like to know. I think she genuinely thought I’d get a clear positive this morning. I think she was partly so convinced as I told her we use the pull out method, which she was horrified by! (I understand the risks, but have not reacted well to every other type of contraception I’ve tried) We also conceived both of our DDs in the first month of trying, so I think that may have convinced her too, I would expect a Dr to at least consider other options after 2 negative tests though!
I did explain that we’d be happy to have another, but are not actually trying, so she just said to do the test and if it’s negative to come back after a further 2 missed periods. She did also say that if we insisted on using that method that I should take a folic acid supplement every day just in case I get pregnant. I take a daily multivitamin which includes this anyway, so no probs there.
I should be due on my period again on Monday, so I can wait and see what happens, but if I am pregnant I’d be 7-8 weeks pregnant, so I would like to know either way! If my period still isn’t here I’ll do the first response ones when they arrive!
With both my DDs I had a clear positive within seconds, so this has never happened to me before, so thanks everyone for your advice x

That is a very strong evap, I don't think I'd be able to wait in your situation, I'd be straight out for a two pack of clear blue digitals (one for now, be for first wee tomorrow). Thinking of you OP, I hope things are clearer soon.

username1724 · 19/10/2018 13:29

Superdrug early response pink dye ones are the most accurate. That could either be evap or positive, I had a similar experience and it turned out to be evap. Blue dye, especially clear blue I found are the worst for evap lines.

Loyaultemelie · 19/10/2018 13:24

Ummmm that's very strong for an evap. I would definitely be getting another type

Funnyface1 · 19/10/2018 13:22

I've never seen a test do that unless it was positive. Go get a superdrug test or clear blue digital.

CaptSkippy · 19/10/2018 13:20

Did I understand this correctly in that they won't test you for another two months if this tests turns out to be negative? Surely if there is a risk of pregnacy they should test you right away so you could still have an abortion if you want?

AlphaBravo · 19/10/2018 13:19

I've never seen an Evap line that strong on a test OP. Go and buy a digital or a FR Rapid Result test from superdrug.

I would say you are pregnant tbh from those lines and request a HCG blood beta from your GP over the phone. They can't really refuse you as tests are proving unreliable.

TittyFahLaEtcetera · 19/10/2018 13:12

Yes OP, that could be an evaporation line. Best to use an early response one. Good luck! X

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 13:05

To be clear this is my test from 7am, not a new one

OP posts:
Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 13:04

Ok have just been back to bathroom and line is getting darker, but it’s obviously well past the time frame for the test now, so maybe it’s just what happens to the test as it starts to dry out or something? Probably time to throw the stick with wee on away now 😳

MrsRubyMonday I suspect what’s wrong with me is probably similar to you as I just don’t feel pregnant like I did when pregnant with my 2 DDs. I just wish I could have an answer straight away though, as it seems so unnatural to me not to have my period that the first thing I do is panic that I’m pregnant and then start to worry what else it could be when the tests come up negative. We’re not trying for another baby, but we’d be happy to have another, especially after worrying myself silly thinking that I was going through the menopause!

I have very similar symptoms, missing periods and then periods lasting 60-90 days at a time, increased facial hair, lots of headaches and weird taste. There's absolutely no chance I could be pregnant, even ignoring the fact that it's been going on for two years now. My weight is also high but has been stable for a long time, and if anything I've lost a couple of stone recently. I've every blood test and scan under the sun, they kept saying it was PCOS but then tests come back clear, they don't believe it so retest, still nothing. Scans show the occasional small cyst but nothing major. Saw a specialist recently who said as all tests were clear they were just putting it down as one of those things and wouldn't be investigating any further. They gave me tablets to regulate my period, that's about it.

Celestia26 · 19/10/2018 11:03

I had a similar test result to yours and was pregnant. Clear Blue are excellent for early testing and will give a clear Pregnant/Not Pregnant result without having to decifer lines! Good luck x

Funnyface1 · 19/10/2018 10:49

I wouldn't be able to wait if I was you!

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 10:38

Ah ok. I’ll get first response and make sure I don’t wee for 4 hours then (that’ll probably have t be overnight tbh!)

OP posts:
Stargirl90 · 19/10/2018 10:33

4 hour hold means don't have a wee for 4 hours then try taking a test. First response are the best. Good luck

Minimonkeysmum · 19/10/2018 10:24

Try a pink dye early response test - Superdrug ones are good. They're more sensitive so might give a clearer result.

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 10:24

Sorry but what do you mean anything on a four hour hold should be ok?

OP posts:
Si1ver · 19/10/2018 10:23

Outside the time frame means negative, but given your other symptoms I think I'd try a pink dye test.

Anything on a four hour hold should be ok.
