Yammers thread 9!

Yammer rules:

A safe place for those of you who have been trying to conceive for 6+ months and even yams aren’t helping. Come and have a good ol’ bitch and a moan without judgement. Please read the rules before posting!

The Yam Commandments are as follows;

  • Thou shalt not give advice to others when TTC for one month only
  • Thou shalt not participate in one-up-manship and realise TTC is shit for everyone in different ways
  • Thou shall allow posters to be fucked off with the world and everything in it at regular points in the month
  • Thou shalt not be offended by strong language
  • Thou shalt not tell everyone to eat yams
  • Thou shall accept being called a muppet for testing at 7dpo at 9pm at night
  • Thou shalt not symptom spot during the two week wait and must be prepared for a telling off if you do so.

-Thou shalt not post pictures of positive pregnancy tests. We will be delighted to hear about it but no photos, please and thank you

@Pinkemi I would go with the cool box with ice packs! Bet it would stay really cold for 24 hrs if it was well insulated? How big are they? Would they even fit in a thermos of ice? (Easier to hide!)

@Owlpatrol I totally think of things like that!! Then I feel sad when the event passes and I think 'oh, remember when I thought I'd maybe be too pregnant to do this?'. Sigh. Sorry FP got you and that you've reached the 2 yr mark. Is it your DP who's reluctant to do a test? Mine really didn't want to in the beginning, but he's just done his 4th (and has now seen all the awful, invasive tests us women have to endure), so think he's finally ok with it!

Ok another Christmas to have all the day dreaming of telling dp on Xmas day, of buying and wearing a Christmas pudding themed Christmas jumper. Sigh. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks of these things!!

Owlpatrol · 17/10/2018 19:50

@Pinkemi oh sounds like a nightmare but on the plus side I hope you have a wicked time at the wedding and enjoy it and have fun!

Af caught me today, which takes me into the 2 years exactly now of trying Sad dp has been really good. I feel fine but it's just another month for me eh!? Anyway onwards and upwards. Is it weird I'm secretly happy I can drink at the Xmas party and not need to make excuses? It's the small things in life. Oh man did I go there and mention Xmas already 😂

OrcinusOrca · 17/10/2018 13:44

@Pinkemi if you wrapped them up in kitchen roll and put a defrosted ice pack at the bottom and on the top and then put them in a Tupperware which was obscured with more kitchen roll lining it they'd have no clue what was in there, and I can't think anyone would go for a rummage. They will all be preoccupied too. I would be the same as you though! You don't want to have them in the room and panic they've gotten to warm or anything though x

Pinkemi · 17/10/2018 13:18

@OrcinusOrca Yep.. its a bloody logistical nightmare! haha Somehow though i just KNEW my body wouldnt play ball.

I thought about shoving a LOAD of ice packs in a cool bag on Friday afternoon and just keep it in the bedroom I will be sharing with the bride.. ( and possibly bridesmaid) and hope that it lasts 24hrs.. Dont think thats going to work.

If i can get away with not putting them in the fridge for everyone to look at.. I'd rather do that... just dunno how.

OrcinusOrca · 17/10/2018 13:13

@Pinkemi crikey sounds really hard logistically! I don't reckon people would query it, and they wouldn't have any idea what they were looking at unless they've been there anyway, in which case they'll sympathise.

Pinkemi · 17/10/2018 12:54

Welcome newbies to the mad house! haha

So second scan this morning.. I had a few follicles which had grown to 20... (dunno what unit they measure in haha) but most were ranging from 13-16.. and apparently they have to be 18 up for them to say yep its time. Grrrr.

So it looks like I am having another scan on Friday morning.. with the possibility of egg collection being on Monday. So... this means I will be taking my trigger shot at the bloody wedding im a bridesmaid for this sat. URGH!

Currently trying to work out how I can keep my meds hidden.. but also stored properly. Im staying with the bride and her family on friday night.. so don't really want to have to keep the meds in the fridge. My DH said to just keep them in a lunch bag with ice packs in the fridge and tell everyone that Im on antibiotics that have to keep in the fridge.. He thinks that no one will query it.. but I think they will. Not too sure what to do!!

Charm23 · 17/10/2018 10:24

@JustLikeTheySaid I can understand your frustration. I've had months where symptoms have changed which can immediately make you think better or worse, but it's honestly made me realise that my body is just weird and does what the hell it wants. I know it's so hard but try to stay positive. Sending loads of good luck your way!

@OrcinusOrca Sorry to hear that but I'm happy that you're staying positive! Good luck with tracking BBT. I managed about a week before it stressed me out and I gave up. I'm definitely more suited to a more chilled out just-have-loads-of-sex approach haha

@Chooklass Goodluck for your new cycle and for your fertility appointment. Let us know how it goes :)

@maddiie Thanks! I can only imagine how fed up you feel and hope you start feeling better soon. Goodluck for your new cycle! I've not tried to Natural Cycles as I don't think it's suited to me but it's good that you've followed through with your promise to yourself and I hope it helps - let us know how it goes.

maddiie · 17/10/2018 08:02

Morning yammers, checking in

Good luck @Owlpatrol

Welcome @Charm23

Too many more messages to try and catch up on them all but hope everyone is doing ok!! I retreated from all this ttc stuff (including sex) for the past week or so as I've been so fed up. AF finally arrived on CD97. Not even disappointed just relieved for the cycle to be over. I've just ordered Natural Cycles thermometer and a years subscription as I promised myself I would if another cycle passed with no idea if/when I ovulated. Anyone yammers tried it?

Chooklass · 17/10/2018 07:16

@JustLikeTheySaid I've had two symptomless TWWs and they were really frustrating! Even though I hate my pms symptoms, anything new or different automatically makes you excited/ worried, doesn't it? I wondered if I hadn't ovulated those months but really no idea! Fingers-crossed for you x

@Charm23 I'm on day five of a new cycle and don't feel anything at this stage! Just summoning the energy for fertile week . I've got my second fertility appt in 2 weeks (after waiting 8 loooong months), so got something to focus on at least.

@OrcinusOrca Hope you are doing ok and that the chemical was a good sign (in a weird, fucked-up way!)

OP posts:
OrcinusOrca · 17/10/2018 06:39

@JustLikeTheySaid you never know it might be a good sign? I never really get any TWW signs. My boobs never hurt! Nipples get more sensitive around O but that's it. I can't remember how long you've been trying or if you were on contraception before but I think some bodies take longer to settle down too. I think mine got wonkier the longer I was off the pill and is now coming back to a more 'normal' pattern with the PCOS medication.

@Charm23 I feel mildly hopeful too. I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle so I'm a bit scared as well really. I'm hoping my body is sorting itself out now I've been in the metformin a while etc, but it seems like some people have multiple chemicals, am praying that's not me but also praying I can get up the duff again! I've started measuring BBT again and whilst I'm only day 5, my temp is still quite high really...

JustLikeTheySaid · 17/10/2018 06:29

I'm feeling very confused and cross with my body. 9dpo today and my boobs don't hurt at all. In previous cycles they have been absolutely agonising in the run up to FP... but they are not now. I'm also usually very crampy for the TWW but I haven't been at all. I'm worried what that means for my hormone levels. I just don't think they're right. I'm sure there is a provlem and it is infuriating having to wait another 5months until I can see a doctor :(

I will probably hold off testing for another few days at least. Really busy week. And not sure what the point is wasting money on tests tbh. I know I'm not pregnant.

Charm23 · 16/10/2018 23:06

@OrcinusOrca and @Booksandbaths1 Thanks for the welcome! :)

How is everyone feeling this cycle? I felt really positive last cycle and had a huge crash back down to reality when AF showed up which was made worse because DH was away on business so felt really sad and alone. I'm feeling quite good this cycle and simply hoping for the best.

Booksandbaths1 · 16/10/2018 22:56

Haaaaa love it. Amazingly I think itchy fannys relating to tampons are maybe the only topic that hasn't been covered 😂 Anyone got a burning 😉 desire to cover that one?

Welcome @Charm23 long term ttc can really suck. We're here to console/bitch with or help in anyway we can x

Chooklass · 16/10/2018 21:56

Owlpatrol · 16/10/2018 21:45

Dp made a funny comment about mn and asked me about all the acronyms so I've explained then in lay man's terms 😂😂 he reckons all we talk about is itchy fannys and tampons.... any how hope that made you all laugh

Owlpatrol · 16/10/2018 21:39

Hi yam fam, not much to report today af due today but just brown spotting. Dp reckons my boobs have grown Hmm. Anyway report back tomorrow. Fully expecting fp arrival

OrcinusOrca · 16/10/2018 13:47

Welcome aboard @Charm23 Thanks

Charm23 · 16/10/2018 10:58

@Chooklass Aww thanks, I appreciate you saying that, sometimes I feel like I'm doing something wrong! Annoyingly I've managed to pick up a cold or chest infection around the fertile week of each of my last 2-3 cycles which is annoying. Not sure if that will affect my chances but certainly cut down a bit on DTD. DH eats GF anyway so I'm mostly GF to suit him but I might try something else - maybe yams!! Do they have to be real yams or will sweet potato do? lol.

I'm on CD14 and have been DTD every day since CD10. If I go nutty around the end of the month it'll be because AF is due about 1st November, just in time for our anniversary weekend away sigh

Goodluck to everyone TTC Flowers

Chooklass · 16/10/2018 09:59

Hi @Charm23! Sounds like you are doing a great job! I found the last few months before I could go to the docs for help really dragged along but I tried to do something different each month, eg fertility yoga, more yams (!) or gluten-free. Kept my mind off it and you never know what might help. Running out of ideas now though! (20ish cycles)

Charm23 · 16/10/2018 09:05

Hi everyone! Glad I've found this thread. I'm 28, TTC #1 and on cycle 8. I find that tracking things stresses me out and I often forget and ovulation tests don't really work for me (I only get highs, no peaks!?). Instead, we try to DTD every day or every other day for a couple of weeks after AF stops. Are we doing the right thing, do you think? Any words of advice or support would be appreciated :)

Pinkemi · 15/10/2018 22:35

@Chooklass im the same with caffiene.. i used to suffer a lot from insomnia. It wasnt until i cut it out completely that i realised how sensitive i am to it. I now have 1 or 2 cups of normal tea a day. The rest is decaf or redbush.

When i first cut it out completely the first few days were hell! I had such bad headaches and felt like i was going to fall asleep at my desk constantly. (Bit like i feel now actually on these meds. Haha) but once you get past that.. its so so much better!

DianaBlythe · 15/10/2018 22:19

Haven’t really participated in the last couple but do keep a eye.

Sorry to see so many familiar names still here. Sounds like lots of crappy times all round.

We’ve got an appointment back with Gynae and the plan is for us to go on the IVF waiting list at that appointment.

I’m slightly concerned about DHs BMI. It looks like policy is that “men with a BMI >30 should be advised they are likely to be less fertile”. They’ve published the referral form as an appendix on their policy website and it does ask for the male BMI. Saw in the news that Bristol are now refusing men based on BMI but they haven’t explicitly said they’re turning down in our area.

I asked the nurse at the last appointment and she said it wasn’t a worry. He could really do with losing some weight anyway but it just isn’t happening and he’s really sensitive about it.

I really want him to lose the weight and do occasionally get a bit irrationally stabby feelings about it which is most unfair of me. I keep them to myself.

I just don’t want to turn up at that appointment and it turns out it is an issue and we can’t proceed.

And I’d like him to lose it for himself, he gets upset looking at photos of himself, it would help his various joint pains, he’d feel so much better for it and would look better.

If the shoe was on the other foot though, I’d hate the thought of him being silently frustrated with me! I don’t really think it’s the cause of our problems either. It may be a little symptomatic of them! Probably I’m just trying to focus on something and it’s fairly irrelevant.

Maybe I’ll get some Yams in. Fingers crossed for all those having treatment, not having treatment and everything in between.

Chooklass · 15/10/2018 21:26

@OrcinusOrca I'm almost cutting it out completely - apart from eg if round at a friends and they don't gave decaf! I gave up caffeine before for about a year but it's gradually sneaked back into my life. I'm quite sensitive to it and feel a lot calmer without (my skin is much clearer without it too).
