Thanks @Cleozeta x

Yes that’s what I was told too @Realitysucks - I think it’s unusual for someone over 40 to be put on long protocol as they don’t like to shut your system down completely - also there’s a time factor as some people down reg for up to 2 months on long protocol I’ve heard.

Realitysucks · 21/11/2018 14:47

@Orchid222 at clinic now so will ask. I belive it’s based on age and previous history. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 17, had one successful pregnancy at 24 and miscarriage at 33. When they said about short protocol it seems to be based on me being 40 and not shutting system down completely. From what I gather on long protocol you do down regs but not on the short one?!?

Cleozeta · 21/11/2018 14:30

Dinah, here is a discount code for £20 off ava bracelet if you decide to get one

Orchid222 · 21/11/2018 14:07

Reality I wonder how they determine whether to put someone on a short or long protocol...can't be based on test results when j compare mine to yours so ill ask my clinic to satisfy my curiosity unless your place has explained that to you?

@snowie3 thank you. I don't mind at all you giving your opinion I'm very grateful. I think I'm my head and heart I knew I was going to tell her (we are very close) but still feel guilty of that makes sense?

Thanks for reassurance x

Dinah99 · 21/11/2018 12:58

@littlemimosa thanks- yes I think I may be all over the place time wise.... I'm seriously considering buying the Ava bracelet even for the last few months... just so I know I'm not throwing my all at it at the wrong time... Confused. Ordered the fertility blood tests online from medichecks so we'll see what shows up there. Much easier getting pregnant by mistake the first time at 42! If only we could will out bodies into thinking we're not trying... xx

littlemimosa · 21/11/2018 12:38

Dinah - sorry i don't know anything about clomid only that it is supposed to help you ovulate if you dont already..

littlemimosa · 21/11/2018 12:38

interesting talk of OPKS and ovulation. I think as we age the sticks are not as reliable and like Cleo i think i get my LH surge a good few days AFTER ovulation/ewcm. I thought i'd ovulated last friday as had ewcm and pains on thurs/fri but still had symptoms over the weekend and even today so i did an OPK this morning and today it's positive. It's so odd but like Cleo says the only way to know is to temp.

Reality and Dinah - i wouldn't presume you've not had a surge/ovulated. Most likely you've just missed it as it's so much harder to pinpoint in 40s.

Dinah99 · 21/11/2018 11:17

Hi ladies! Lots going on in this thread! Does anyone know anything about Clomid? My progesterone test a couple of months ago was 30.5 and indicated ovulation but last couple of months I haven't had a peak LH on CB digi opk. I'm considering trying to get it but I know it can be bad if you overstimulate the ovaries. Anyone had any experience or know how often they need to monitor you?
xx

Realitysucks · 21/11/2018 10:55

@snowie3 that’s good to hear that yours was successful. Mini package is a min fertility package it’s just all the test and costs about £700 I’m going with access fertility for my ivf due to age I can get multicycle so two cycles with them through my clinic but cheaper than the Clinc price for two rounds by about 2k!

Snowie3 · 21/11/2018 10:24

Reality i think your AMH seems fine for age. My had fluctuated around that level and i had a successful pregnancy through ivf.

Can i ask about what the mini package is exactly? I always did one cycle at a time but maybe should have asked about it.

Snowie3 · 21/11/2018 10:17

Hi Wishing, Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy!! i hope you don't mind me saying my thoughts but i had a similar situation when i was trying for my first. My good friend who had been there during my miscarriages became pregnant but didn't tell me until she was about 15 weeks. I felt awful that she had kept that secret from me and not shared it. Since the topic of conceving had been discussed between us so much. I still feel a bit angry about it now even though we both have children. I am not sure exactly why she didnt tell me but it did make me feel useless and hurt my feelings.

I know you and your friend may be completely different to us/me but thought i would let you know. I would have really appreciated her letting me know when we had been together although it would still have been really hard to take!

Xx

Realitysucks · 21/11/2018 10:08

@cleozeta yes will start doing temp now I think. I’m not very good with cm stuff as not sure yet is should all look like 🤣🤣🤣 I think I had ewcm yesterday and boobs suddenly hard ! So presuming these are the signs.

I’ve had an AMH blood test at clinic he has had his test. Mine was 4 but his test was above normal so super 🤦‍♀️ I asked about FSH test but they do it later I suppose it all depends what package you buy. We were told to go to open evening then you get tests half price so we did that only to find scan not part of package. With the mini fertility package you get it so am going to ask for one today. We have screening bloods today for hep etc and a treatment timetable . They have suggested ICSI and short protocol but I’m not convinced as everyone I have spoke to has reminded me they are selling a product and with DH result we shouldn’t need ICSI. Plus the more people I speak to say my AMH for age isn’t really that bad. From what I see on here people are having treatment when AMH is below 1.

Cleozeta · 21/11/2018 09:45

This cycle I didn't get an LH surge but I know I definitely ovulated due to temp rise. We have the same issue with DH only being able to 'perform' every other day maximum, sometimes every 3 days, so we do need to catch the window. That did make this cycle hard to judge but we dtd a few days after ewcm which is when, for me, ov usually happens, and according to temps I was right. I've no idea why I didn't get a surge this cycle, maybe I just missed it, but I highly advise you temp if you want confirmation.

Maybe ask at the clinic today? Have you had all your tests etc?

I have booked into a full fertility check on dec 14th. Scary!

Realitysucks · 21/11/2018 09:10

Hi all,

Good luck to everyone starting treatment this month. Wishing fingers crossed for you x

So I’m a bit confused now. I have started the ovulation tests this month. I’m running two checking apps and both suggest ovulation today but obviously they are worked on dates rather than the actual tests. I’m cycle day 12 have had oestrogen surge for the past 5 days but still no LH surge. Had A few signs yesterday to suggest I was ovulating. DH was waiting for LH surge but couldn’t wait any longer so dtd last night. Woke up this morning still no LH surge 😞 feel like it was a wasted try last night now as DH struggles if its less than 3-4 days in between. I know we should be dtd everyday or at least every other day but he just can’t. Worried I may not even be ovulating now. Clinic appointment today to get time frame on treatment and find out when I can start. Not sure if I should pay for tube scan first to check ? They seem to only do this after you’ve signed up where other clinics do FSH first 🤷‍♀️

Chatbash72 · 20/11/2018 23:53

Goodness busy day for me and busy day on here... good luck to all those starting injections, tests etc..
fingers 🤞 @BooseysMom for DH interview and hope af doesn't hit..
BPA is a scary one, but I'm not sure what we can do to completely eliminate it from our lives.. although the generations who first had cans still popped out little ones late in life and those cans probably weren't as safe as they are now.. @PetraRabbit I stopped using nail varnish in January but I think there is a good vegan range on line and Holland and Barrett have healthy nail varnishes too.. @WishingonaStar77 if you were in your friends position would you want to no now or at 12 week scan? It's a tough one..

hope I've covered everyone baby dust to all xxx

Cleozeta · 20/11/2018 23:33

I did unintentionally buy a BPA free water bottle a few months ago when I had no idea what BPA was, other than that it is impossible to avoid, as everything contains it. Even down to baked beans. Most foods are wrapped in some kind of plastic if not tinned. Even a lot of the fresh veg & fruit I buy comes wrapped in plastic. If I followed it to the letter I'd have to just start growing my own fruit & veg to live off with nothing else. And get rid of everything plastic in the house (there wouldn't be much left) and my 5 year old would be eating off a china plate. That would be exciting.

Yes definitely up for a book swap, I'm just going to try not to take certain parts of this one too seriously I think!

littlemimosa · 20/11/2018 22:57

Cleo your sausage roll comment made me laugh out loud! It’s so hard isn’t it. It’s almost impossible to avoid plastics altogether but I guess we can try to limit our exposure. Plastic water bottles are easy to replace with glass or stainless steel. Food packaging is a hard one though. Do you fancy a book swap when you’ve finished with it?? I’ve got a library of fertility books....

littlemimosa · 20/11/2018 22:53

Hi all, so much to catch up on! Sorry for those who are out this month.

Booseys - hope all goes well for your OH.

Wishing, maybe wait for your scan and then tell her? I guess it depends on your relationship.... I’m struggling at the moment with baby bombs:(
Sorry that’s not very helpful.

Mini - what have you tried so far in the way of diet/supps and treatments? I’m currently on:
Ubiquinol
Multi vitamins + extra Bs, E and C
EPO up to ovulation
Cod liver oil
Vitamin D spray
Magnesium spray.

I’ve stopped Royal Jelly (& dairy and flax/soy) as I’m trying to avoid anything which is oestrogenic as I’ve been reading about the effects and apparently the plant oestrogens actually cause your body to stop producing it’s own natural oestrogen. Oh and I’m also having acupuncture which I’m enjoying a lot and drinking the ‘yummy tea’!

WishingonaStar77 · 20/11/2018 22:16

Thanks Cleozeta I just don't want to upset her but you're right she will want to be there for me x

Cleozeta · 20/11/2018 21:38

Wishing - maybe tell her, as she may guess anyway if you are not drinking etc. If you were there for her I'm sure she will want to do the same for you.

Cleozeta · 20/11/2018 21:35

Petra - not sure how useful it is yet, just getting through the BPA stuff, which is not useful as it's completely impossible to follow. No plastic, no tinned food. It's even in till receipts, although I don't plan on eating those.
The book does talk a lot about older ladies from the start, so I'll be interested to read the other stuff, I'm hoping it'll have info on suppliments and other things that I can actually follow. Not just cry everytime I eat a sausage roll from a plastic wrapper.

WishingonaStar77 · 20/11/2018 21:17

@BooseysMom feeling ok thanks bit very nervous. I didn't have my scan in the end they told me not to. I did however manage to get some cyclogest which I started last night.
Getting lots of tummy stretching and pulling so assume that's a good sign.
Have a long wait to 6 week scan.

Fingers crossed for your OH job interview then :-)

My best friend has had 2 failed IVF so far. She's been trying for longer than me and never caught naturally. Don't want to upset her do you guys think I should not tell her until 12 weeks or share it with her? I was there through every step of her IVF journey and I know she appreciated it hugely..

X
