Hello!
I'm brand new here and kind of TTC - I very recently stopped my contraception method (non-hormonal IUD so no need to wait for anything to 'regulate itself') and will see what happens over the next few months before actively trying (tracking, OV strips, etc).
So not trying but not not-trying basically!
My husband is actually broodier than me but he doesn't want to "start trying" yet because we still have a lot of work to do on our house, and we're both awaiting an annual bonus from work - but he seems to think that it would happen right away as soon as we decide we're ready to be expecting, despite me explaining to him numerous times that realistically it could take up to a year or maybe longer. But we'll see. It's tricky because until you give it a go you just don't know how long it'll take - could be immediate or could be quite difficult.
Anyway, I want to hear your stories of finding out you were pregnant and letting him know... Did you take the test together, or take it yourself and then surprise him with the news? What was his reaction? Etc etc. All stories ... I want to know :)
Also did you tell your BFF/Mum/immediate family the news before 12 weeks? I can't imagine not telling my Mum but I don't think I would tell anyone else until after the 1st scan.
PS: I'm quite nervous about the prospect of "trying" as nearly all of my pregnant/parent friends have not had an easy ride.. but trying to think positively. Exciting!
PPS: I know hardly any acronyms yet, but enjoying learning them :)

First baby we were together when I did it. It was our first month trying so I wasn't all that familiar with pregnancy tests etc. A faint line came up, but my husband wasn't convinced as it wasn't smack you in the face positive. I did another later that night and again it was positive, but not really dark. It wasn't until he nipped out for a clear blue digital the next day and saw the words that he believed it!

Second time we weren't trying, I was breastfeeding the first and assumed my periods had gone away again. I was nearly 2 weeks late for my period and my friends suggested I should test. I was convinced I wasn't pregnant, but I have the odd wine here and there so I thought it'd be better to be sure. I asked my husband to pick me a test up while he was in asda my words were "only get one of them £1 tests, I don't want to go wasting money when I'm sure I'm not!!". So he came back with the cheapest they do. He got on with making tea, so I just went and did it without a song and dance (he didn't know I'd gone to do it). I peed on it and then just put it on the sink and started playing on my phone messaging my friends in our group chat (I didn't say what I was doing) I'd kind of forgot what I was in there for so after 5 min or so it struck me to look. And there it was! I sat there looking at it for a few minutes before I messaged my friends I was chatting to. Bad I told them before my husband! I sat upstairs on the loo still for a bit before I thought shit I've got to tell him! (Not that it was a bad thing, just a bit sooner than we would have gone for it). So I walked downstairs and he was playing with our 9 month old on the floor and I just said "I think we are going to need to set another place at the table at Christmas". Soooo he started trying to work out who I'd invited!!! I then had to say it "we've got another on the way!" And sooooo the looking at the test thing started again with nah, you're not? Etc. Took another clear blue to convince him!

I think both times were an anticlimax, I think more so because it happened so quickly and then not actually trying. Our initial reaction was shock both times, even when trying! We are trying to work out at the moment when to go for number 3, maybe I'll get the emotional hugging and jumping for joy rather than "naaaaah I can't see it" 😆!

We peed on it together, so to speak. DH waited in bed, i shuffled off to the bathroom. It showed a very strong line before i'd stopped peeing! I just wandered back into the bedroom saying "um......" not very articulate Grin

It didn't hit me until about 6/7 months in, until we started buying furniture etc, that we were going to have an actual 3D baby! It was all very abstract. I was induced and can distinctly remember leaving the house with my overnight bag saying 'when we come back, all this will be different'. Although i had been practising pushing a teddy in the pram Grin

Lilsquish · 13/09/2018 07:54

First dc my husband told me. id took a test, it was negative so i put it in the bin and went out to collect dinner. When i got back OH was holding the test i had binned - there was a second line. i just hadnt waited long enough.

current pregnancy- i bought a tiny baby sleepsuit, put it folded up next to our toddler and then asked OH to change her into her jammies. The confusion on his face.....'this is tiny????' before it dawned on him :-D

LaPufalina · 13/09/2018 07:29

Oh BGDino I've got something in my eye!
I told DH our first by asking how his day was when he got in... he said "ok" and I said "well, that's about to change" Grin I'd sat on the news all day because I wanted to tell him in person!!

BGDino · 13/09/2018 06:57

First cycle ovulation induction. Scheduled for a blood test 2 weeks after predicted ovulation but got impatient and tested with a FRER several days before as I'd had random nausea. Walked out calmly into the living room holding positive test and just said "Honey, I think this is positive."

There's a second part to this story:

Did a second FRER the following night and it was also positive. Got a video call from Hong Kong later that night from my mum, who's with my 92 year old grandfather at the hospital, he's been ill for weeks and has decided he wants to stop treatment. Hubby and I realise this might be one of the last conversations we get to have with him, both get into frame and tell him I'm pregnant. I'm his eldest and favourite GC and only granddaughter and on my previous visit he'd asked me if hubby and I were planning on having children, and when I said we were trying he said not to leave it too long. My grandfather died several days later and was never really lucid again after that last conversation with us, so had we waited for the blood test he wouldn't have been able to understand what we were saying. Hubby thinks that perhaps all this means this baby is meant to be.

Second time I was really sure that I was pregnant even before I was late but DH was sceptical (DD1 took 18 months to conceive, and we'd only being trying for a couple of months this time)
So to confuse/amuse him I walked back into the bedroom after poas playing Tom Waits 'Christmas card from a hooker in Mineapolis' which starts with the line "Charlie, i'm pregnant..." Did the trick Grin

Stephisaur · 12/09/2018 19:41

I took a test at 6.30am when he was still asleep. We were sort of trying but I wasn’t really expecting to have caught that month so was really only taking a test to rule it out.

It came up positive, so I took another one. That was also positive. I shoved both tests in my dressing gown pocket and went downstairs to make a cup of tea and calm myself.

DH came down about 10 minutes later, at which point I burst into tears and basically thrust the tests at him 😂 I was happy, I promise!

nhssecretary · 12/09/2018 17:22

This is a gorgeous thread

CocoLoco87 · 12/09/2018 16:54

DC1 we'd had a negative pregnancy test a few days earlier. We'd agreed to wait and re-do it as I was late for my period. I couldn't wait till he got home so ended up ringing him and shouting it down the phone!
With DC2 he was down stairs with DC1 having breakfast. I didn't tell him I was doing a test and ran downstairs and launched myself at him Grin

Penguino888 · 12/09/2018 14:12

I love this thread 😍😍😍

I POAS first thing in the morning, saw it was positive, and thought I'd wait a week or two before saying anything to DP as I'd had miscarriages and MMC before and couldn't quite face it all again.

Made us a cup of tea, came back into the bedroom trying to act normal. He took one look at my face and asked me what was up. I told him and had a proper blub while he told me it was all OK, and a good thing. I think I was totally overwhelmed, and also terrified that I would miscarry again. I'm now 15+4 with a pretty energetic little bean - it's looking good.

nhssecretary · 12/09/2018 10:08

I just shouted down the stairs
Oh my god babe

My husband ran up the stairs and I cried on the toilet holding on to him

Sam142 · 12/09/2018 09:47

These stories have made my day! All so lovely current trying not to get emotional at work haha so happy for you all !

Come on next month!

Mikewazowskismrs · 11/09/2018 21:33

Yes thank you absolutely over the moon, believed I would never see that positive result !

Good luck to you too Smile

NCasIknowMNetters · 11/09/2018 21:03

I told after the scan. My mother came over and 'we' drank G&T... next morning she asked how my head was and I said it was fine. She said I should have a hangover and I asked why? I hadn't been drinking, of course I hadn't been drinking I was 13 weeks pregnant.

She cussed me out for getting her piddly as she was only drinking to keep me company. yeah right mum, whatever you say

cakesandphotos · 11/09/2018 21:02

I flapped my freshly peed on stick in his face, shouted “we’re going to have a baby!”, flung myself dramatically at him and burst into tears. At 5am. We have been TTC for 18 months and I couldn’t believe I got a positive test

NCasIknowMNetters · 11/09/2018 21:00

I was off to a work trip to London to see Wicked. I'd worked from home in the morning and feeling a bit queasy I took the test (we were TTC)

Dh was dropping me off at the train station. I hopped out the car, thanked him for the lift and said 'BTW I'm pregnant' and skipped off to get my ticket.

DumbleDork · 11/09/2018 20:52

Our eldest I just text him that I needed to talk to him as we still lived with our parents at the time and he guessed from that.

With our youngest I found out Christmas Day morning so i wrapped the clear blue digital up for his first present of the day. This was extra special as we had miscarried earlier that year and that baby was actually due Christmas Day 🙂

RedPandaFluff · 11/09/2018 20:50

I have a plan for this weekend!

So, we've just had our second cycle of IVF, and I've been testing early because I couldn't bear the big build-up to the negative outcome we had last time. I'd rather have been gradually disappointed.

But, to my absolute joy, I've been testing for three days and they're all positive, so if I carry on getting positives for the rest of the week, I'm going to tell DH on Saturday morning.

We're planning our honeymoon for next month (got married last year) and we've chosen two destinations - one for if I got pregnant, and one active/outdoorsy place for if I'm not. I've got him a guide book for the "pregnant destination" and I'm going to tie a positive Clearblue Digital test to it and hand it to him at breakfast Grin

emwithme · 11/09/2018 20:40

First one (day before my 40th birthday) : "Oh holy fuck your junk works. Oh shit, I can't drink tomorrow" (him: you should've waited a couple of days. Also, aaaaargh). Unfortunately ended in MC.

Second one (four months later): woke him up with a "Good morning Daddy". Him: "Oh fuck, really. Also, what time is it?". Again, unfortunately MC.

This one (28 weeks and counting): POAS, thought it was negative, didn't mention it. Emptying bin 2 days later, spot line. Rush to supermarket for more tests. POAS. Positive. He's on a night shift. Send him a FB messenger picture. Him: "Shit. Hope this one sticks!"

Josico58 · 11/09/2018 19:46

i was 15 and told my boyfriend whilst sat on a wall outside rollerworld crying buckets and covered in snot. i’d just done the test in the toilets with my best friend. 7 years later we found out when we did the test together in the bathroom of our new home whilst our son banged on the door demanding to know what we were doing.

StillMedusa · 11/09/2018 19:00

I can't remember the first two but I certainly remember the third!!

My babies where 17 months and 4 months old (deliberately close together). I was on the mini pill. I was two days late.
I woke up at 5 am worrying and decided to put my mind at rest with a spare test left over from no 2.
It instantly went a deep deep pink.
I got back into bed and nudged DH. ' Are you awake?' 'Uh' 'Are you in a good mood?' ' Uhhh????' 'Im pregnant again.'
'Oh god' With that he rolled over and snored. In the morning he woke up turned to me and said, 'I had the worst dream..' saw my face...' It wasn't a dream was it!?!?!??!'

So we had three in two years and 3 months. No 3 was the most laid back and delightful baby ever and we went on to have a 4th, but that moment will stick in my mind forever... his FACE Grin
