Coming off the pill after 16 years on Microgynon, and trying!

Hi All,

Newbie to this group, so hello all! Smile

I’m 31, and DH is 35 we got married in 2016 after 6 years together and have now decided to start tentatively trying for our first baby.

The timing is probably still not 100% right, we’re still in our first home a little 2 bed terrace, im not 100% happy in my job (it’s very stressful and I’ve had a lot of extra responsibilities placed on me last 18 months) financially we both have well paid jobs but are both paying off big loan and one big credit card but I feel like we’re ready now and financially we can make it work for us.

My worry is, that will the time ever be right even if we wait to move house or a new job etc? I’ve been on the pill for 16 years (microgynon) and finished it on Saturday 1st sept, and don’t plan to re start it to see if my cycles regulate and how long it might take.

I worry our age may go against us, and it’ll take a bit longer for everything to get back to normal. I’ve signed up to natural cycles so I can start tracking my temperature, just waiting for AF to arrive.

Has anyone else had any experience of coming off Microgynon after a long time, and how long it took for things to go back to normal and how long it took to get pregnant?

Thanks so much in advance, I’m naturally an anxious person and I am already fretting!

I came off it in January this year, went 4 months without a period and have since had three 6ish week cycles (the first being a chemical pregnancy) and yet to be successful. I think my body is taking longer than average to settle into its own rhythm but everyone is different.

Microgynon above not microtonal 🙈

@blondemother Ah so lucky, congratulations you must have been so pleased.

I don’t think I did, I was a bit of a late starter not getting my first period until I was 15, and whilst I had long cycles (I think I was more like 35-40 days per cycle) my periods were so painful (now I’m older I’ve defitiley built up a tolerance!), I went on microtonal 9 months later at 16 to control them and meant I could skip them. I was a regular at taking 63 days worth (3 packets) in a row in order to only have one period every couple of months so I’ve no idea what’ll happen with mine now!

Hello! Came off after about 16 years on it at age 32, had withdrawal bleed, proper period 28 days after that, then pregnant. Very lucky!

Were your periods regular before you started taking it?

I was on it for 10 years, took 10 months for cycles to return to normal and 13 months to conceive. I didn’t go back on it after DC1 and DC’s 2 and 3 were conceived in the 1st and 2nd months of trying. So it can be quick or it can take a while! Good luck!

Thanks so much for your stories ladies, it all seems super positive that cycles can return to normal quickly and there is a lot of success! This makes me feel a lot less anxious, and we should just go for it and see what happens! Best get clued up on some pre pregnancy advice!

Hello, I was on microgynon for 11 years, had normal withdrawal bleed and my cycles were fairly regular of around 33 days. I got my BFP this cycle after 3 cycles after stopping pill. Good luck!

BellaVida · 03/09/2018 13:45

Was on it a similar amount of time and fell pregnant the first month coming off with all of my DC!

PrincessDaff · 03/09/2018 13:42

I was on this for 12 years and fell pregnant 6 months after stopping. Good luck!! Xxx

I googled and panicked, it was a shock it happened so quick, but a very welcome shock! Xx

Blueberry001 · 03/09/2018 13:26

Ah thanks so much for your reply, this is all sounding so hopeful for me!

I’m such a ‘googler’ I’ve been reading some stories of it taking over a year just to get cycles back to normal let alone getting pregnant, so this is all sounding much more positive!

I was on microgynon from 17-29, I conceived the first month I came off it!
I only had a withdrawal bleed and then my little boy was created!
So it can happen quick.

Good luck for when you do ttc xx

Hi OP. I was on it for 8 years, came of it in Feb and I'll be 11 weeks on Wednesday 🙂 Cycle went back to normal immediately (with none of the hideous period pain I used to have which is why I went on MG in the first place). Every woman is different but it worked out for me. Good luck! X

Blueberry001 · 03/09/2018 13:07

Thanks for your reply, that is so good that you back to normal so quickly, and got pregnant after 4 months. I’m hoping for a similar situation!

Hello

I was on microgynon for 12 years and everything went back to normal the first month after I stopped taking them. I fell pregnant after 4 months of trying. I was 31 too.
