Pregnant after Morning after pill???

Hey everyone. I'm new on here but looking for some advice/ reassurance. I recently got my implant out as it was having some unbearable side effects and my partner and I had split since I got it in. Within 2 weeks of getting it out we got back together and one night our condom split. Since I has resigned myself to getting the morning after pill first thing in the morn we had unprotected sex several times (damn you gin!) I got the MAP within 9 hours of the first unprotected time and had no immediate side effects. My hormones had been out of whack anyway since having the implant removed so the morning after pill made me even worse for a few days. 5 days after taking it I had some mild cramping and thought it was AF but only got some very watery red/spotting which lasted 2 days but wasn't every time I wiped therefore was very light. I have zero other symptoms now....I have taken the morning after pill twice before and always got a period straight away. However the implant had stopped my period so I haven't had a proper one in 8 months. I did however have some mild bleeding in the days before my unprotected sex. Since I have no idea where I am in cycle I have no idea when I should test. It has been a week since the morning after pill....when should I worry about the lack of AF. I am already fairly worried....this relationship is not stable and I already have a son. Thanks

How are things @Juddersee Smile

Juddersee · 26/08/2018 14:00

No i didn't take a pic sorry but will re test on Fri and use a first response. I would be very surprised if it is positive based on the length of time passed. But if gp suggests doing bloods i might ask if she will check hormones as they are clearly imbalanced. Thanks xx

@Juddersee do you have a picture of the faint line test?

When you test use a pink dye as blue dyes are notorious for false positives or Evaps that look like positives!

It may be that the blood test show something the home tests aren't. Very strange indeed! Hope you get some answers soon Thanks

Juddersee · 26/08/2018 09:39

Spoke with my GP last week. She sounded a little baffled to be honest. First was chatting about checking bloods now and again in few days for hcg hormone then she went to check something and came saying it would only be beneficial to check if I was showing symptoms of an ectopic which I am not. She wants me to wait a week and re test then contact her either way. No signs of AF coming at all.....preg symptoms getting worse.still getting mostly negative hpt got one very very faint positive but it was hard to tell it was evap line. So I'm just playing the waiting game I guess.

I agree with PP actually, I'd go and see your GP. Explain exactly what's happened with the MAP and having the implant out. Explain your symptoms and BFN's and ask if they would do a blood test.

Stress can definitely delay AF too but it's hard for you to relax with no answers.

Rtmhwales · 20/08/2018 19:21

Can you have a doctor do a blood test for HG? I’d explain your concerns to your GP like you’ve done here.

Juddersee · 20/08/2018 19:15

Thanks for replying
I know it's so difficult to say.....even I am clueless and don't feel I am symptom watching as I was quite content with the BFN and the idea that levonelle has delayed my AF.
It's been 3 and a half weeks since the deed was done (a few times) and pill was taken maybe 9 hours after the first time.

I have a short cycle and am now around 9 days late.

It's difficult to say because we're all so different! As you say, a lot of symptoms of early pregnancy are exactly those of AF.

For me, food aversions and heaving at smells of food were the earliest signs of pregnancy which I got about a week or so before BFP. As I say though, we're all different and that may be something that is just happening as part of your AF symptoms.

How many days has it been since you did the deed and took the pill?

Juddersee · 20/08/2018 13:50

So difficult trying to take my mind off things. Can hormones be so out of whack they mimic early pregnancy symptoms? Swollen sore breasts but that could be just AF looming. Been nauseous last 4 days....again could be a bug. This morning I heaved at the smell of my coffee and ive just thrown up at smell of food cooking. I feel sick most of the time. Period is at least a week late possibly 2. I am a pretty rational person though and I know the HCG causes the early pregnancy symptoms so I would be getting strong BFP by now.....I always have before. So fact I am getting BFN means it is highly likely to be hormones....I have just not heard of this before. I mean it's not like I am actively TTC so I'm happy with the BFN.

Thanks. Yeh I'm sure it's just a case of hormones and screwed up. Going to try and not think too much about it for the next week and If I still don't have period I will take another test x

Gosh it must be a really confusing time for you! I know it's easier said than done but try to relax for the next couple of weeks. You've had a lot of hormonal changes in your body with the contraception changes. It's likely you've just knocked your cycle out of whack a little. If there's still no sign in a week or two maybe go and see your GP just for some reassurance!

Juddersee · 17/08/2018 11:01

Well after 3 evenings of nausea I was completely terrified to take the first response this morning. But it was a BFN. It's now been almost 3 weeks since the sex/levonelle so a pregnancy would definitely show up by now....especially for me as I have had previous positive 5 days before AF was due. So that should be the end of that. But j just don't feel "right" I should be relieved and moving on but I just have this feeling like period is not coming any time soon. I need to just forget all about it as it's likely to come in the next few weeks. Sorry for the essay....i guess i just can't allow myself to relax until I get my period xxx

Juddersee · 16/08/2018 20:32

My friend is bringing me one over this evening although I will prob wait until morning to do it. I am very nervous despite having several bfn. I'm constantly checking for AF!! Xx

I'm currently pregnant after taking levonelle (twice within a week less than 24hrs after the accident), don't know about increased risk of ectopic... not sure if I even told a HCP that I had taken in now that I think about it. Baby is safe and fine and in the right place anyway in my case.

Try and get a first response early response and do it tomorrow morning. I hope you get the result you want 🤞

Juddersee · 14/08/2018 15:25

Very hard to tell as I have now got Carpal tunnel in my wrist so it's making my entire arm / shoulder ache from holding it funny. But no other symptoms...no sharp pains etc.

OP posts:
Karigan198 · 14/08/2018 15:15

No ectopic you could have a negative test even. But have you any signs of that??? Any discomfort or shoulder pain?

beccii161016 · 14/08/2018 14:50

I'm unsure about the ectopic factor but if you've had even the faintest positive it may be worth using a first response test with FMU. They're a bit pricier but they're very sensitive and detect early.

Juddersee · 14/08/2018 13:11

Tested last night and got a very very very faint line.....I almost didn't see it but was walking past window and sun hit it lol. Tried again with another internet sensitive cheapie today with fmu and not even a hint of a line. Bit confused. Period has never taken this long to come after MAP but I'm sure it must be on it's way as in my previous pregnancies I've got my bfp very early. My sis however got pregnant after MAP and had to go for an early scan in case it was ectopic as that is a risk with levonelle. Would an ectopic pregnancy be detectable by test in the same timeframe as a normal pregnancy? Xx
