There's a thread on here somewhere about a woman who's unexpectedly pregnant using this method and it's pretty much destroying her relationship with her DP. So...

I stopped the pill in my 20s (around 27) and never took it again. Never got pregnant that way (I’m 46 now and I have a family).
That being said, it can happen and you really have to know your cycle and not be silly around your ovulation, which is like a movable feast. You can ovulate on day 10, day 12, day 14... it’s a ‘window of days’ and you must be careful around that window.
It worked fine for me as a way of avoiding pregnancy.

Well, it's only really a method for people who don't mind possibly having a baby... If your cycles are reliable, you track accurately and your OH pulls out in good times then it is somewhat reliable but there's always a risk. If having a baby would be a disaster then you should use another method. Definitely abstain during your fertile window.

No, it’s worked for us for 4 years (along side cycle tracking, so extra careful on fertile days) and conceived 2 kids first cycle so it’s not like we have trouble. But I’m aware it’s not reliable however I think most of that is because the man has to not lose control! I’m wanting a ‘better’ method for the next couple of years as deffo don’t want another kid just yet, but has to be non-hormonal and can’t do a coil!

I successfully managed to not get pregnant on this method by using the app Clue for years with my husband. We would abstain from penetrative sex on my fertile days (5 days per month). However, after a few too many drinks on holiday I didn't check my fertile days, did the deed and the next day realised that was my ovulation day. Now breastfeeding my 6 week old on the sofa.

Not sure what the moral of that story is but at the very least, be sure when you're ovulating and don't risk it. Pre-cum can get you pregnant.

OP I think you need to track your cycle too. There is sperm in pre cum

I've used it myself successfully, but around ovulation I wouldn't risk it just in case and would use a condom. I think if a baby would be the end of the world for someone, then it's not reliable.

Well i can tell you that I haven't got pregnant from that method. I've been secretly hoping it would happen for the last 6 years but no luck!
