Anybody else thinking about IVF

I have just been refered for IVF we have choosen a hospital in woking I am already being seen by a consultant who works here.
Just wondering if any body else is embarking on IVF thought we could all help each other get through it.

ZipadiSuzy, can I ask, are all your children born from IVF? Am interested in people who've undergone it again to try to get 2nd child, as this is a decision dh and I will have to make soon. (ds is only 6 months but there is 9 month waiting list)

Its me again. Just to say i am still thinking of you all.

Baggio, although of course its good to be positive don't get too hung up on that if its hard for you to do. If its any consolation no-one could have been more stressed than I was after embryo transplant and it still worked, so I'm not convinced about how important that is to the outcome. Also I was absolutely CONVINCED it hadn't worked over the two week wait, as I had exactly the same symptons I'd had when undergoing IUI which didnt work for me.

Always have hope and faith that the treatment 'WILL' work, after many years of trauma, take a look at our results on 'my profile' worth every penny!!!!

Hello Acinonyx and Baggio. Its so hard to be positive isnt it I will keep everything crossed for both of you.
Acinonyx, Would love twins but worried about the risks. Not sure if I could cope loosing any more babies. i am 28 and I have a dd who is 4 concieved naturally no probs, but I have had 2 ectopic pg in the last 2 years. I have 1 tube left and it open but less chance of having another ep if i have ivf. Will ask the dr about 5 day transfer.
Baggio it so annoying that everyone seems to give different advice. I suppose we just have to trust the drs. I fell pg last time very quickly when I was very stressed so dont worry about being pessimist if it helps. Enjoy your pineapple.

Baggio - as a dedicated pessimist who is totally allergic to positive thinking I comfort myself with the thought that if stress and positive thinking affected ttc so much most people would have no children and a few people would have 10.

At my age, I relaly have to veiw this cycle as being for closure although dh, ever the optimist, takes the view that it might actually work. Jill

Morning cedar . . I was not told to drink 2 litres of water !! weird how different people are advised different things and a bit annoying because you want to feel you are doing everything possible !! I am 38 and have a child and i had 2 embryos put back . . am keen for both to implant but one would do !! have a feeling of gloom and doom today .. after eleven years I don't feel like anything will work but should be visualising best outcome obviously !! going to buy pineapple now !!

Cedar - wrt this decision, think about how you would feel about twins and the risks involved. You should only put back 2 if you are really Ok with that outcome. If you are young and have a child already, then your odds are probably very good. If you are only going to put back one embryo, is your dr suggesting a 5 day rather than a 3 day transfer? That's what we did in order to choose the best 2 embryos, as around half will not make it from 3 to 5 days and it is not always the best looking embryos that do make it. We put back 2 though because of my age (42). Just something to consider. Jill

Baggio I think I am dreading the 2 week wait the most as well it bad enough normally!I have been have reflexology over the last couple of months and my dr is happy for me to carry on until transfer. Managed my 2 litres of water yesterday. My dr only wants to put back one embryo because of my age and I already have a child, I am really not sure what to do its such a hard decision.

hi cedar ..yes had embryo transfer on saturday .. did not get on brilliantly with nasal spray got a bit of a rash and headaches & emotional but just kept thinking it would be worth it ! injections fine despite being really wussy about needles in general . . found the whole drug regime and everything gave me something to concentrate on but when i got to clinic for egg retrieval and then transfer i got really panicky about every tiny thing whereas i have been pretty calm through out the last few months . . had two embryos transferred and now am worried about every little twinge !! everyone says this 2 week wait is the worst part. am happy to chat about anything you want details on re the process ...it definitely helps x

Good luck to all the IVFers. I have a 2 yr-old dd from my 2nd IVF and have just started injections for my third cycle (also have done 2 FETs - frozen transfers).

About the pineapple. There is a substance in the core part which helps implantation but I'm not sure if you can get a decent amout just by eating pineapples. I did though (why not??) after my last embryo transfer and probably will again. Must be the actual fruit though, including the inner ring, not juice. Probably doesn't make any difference but it's nice to have some ritual that doesn't involve needles.

I've heard good things about acupuncture although I haven't tried it myself.

Baggio I am starting ivf this month did you have the embryos put back on saturday? Good luck I hope it works for you. How did you get on with all the drug and injections? Sorry to quiz you.

Thanks My first baby I am excited and terrified at the same time. A tip foryou I have just been told by someone to drink pineapple juice and eat brazil nuts aswell as lots of water and milk.

Hi My first Baby, I am sure my af is just around the corner. Feeling very down about everything bloody hormones. Everyone seems to pg and i think I still had a faint hope I might be pg this month before the ivf. But i think af is on it way been very very grumpy and tearful. But went shopping tonight and stocked up on load of fruit and veg and am going to start drinking the 2 litres of water and 1 litre of milk which they reccomend. I am going to be peeing for england and I cant stand milk. Hot chocolate I can cope with though

TBH I haven't thought that far ahead. I just want to take it a day at a time. Due to my age, I might not even get enough follicles for harvest. So don't really want to stress myself out beforehand! I'm seeing GP on Thu to get the bloodwork results. A bit nervous about the day2-5 results. Last time I did it, it was perfect but now not so sure after m/c.

I think we will be starting about a week before you. I still need to get 2-5 day bloods done. Af due at the weekend. Mr brook only wants to put back one embryo because of my age and I have been pg before what about you. I think I would quite like twins but it put risks of mc etc up. He seemed to think I would have quite a high chance of having twins if they put 2 back!

cedar: yes, hoping to try in july. from my calculation cd19 would be 27th july. we are still waiting for dh blood results but think they should be fine. we still haven't pluck up courage to read the consent forms yet.

Hello mrsfossil I have thought about iui but the success rates arent so good so going straight for ivf. We arent getting any help on the nhs either we already have a dd who is 4. So they wont do any thing on the nhs apart from follicle tracking. The main reason we are going for ivf is I will have less chance of another ep.
