Anybody else thinking about IVF

It's very US oriented but still very informative for people going through IVF.

It must be very frustrating when drs tell you there is nothing wrong with you. With regard to trying again, from what I have read, about 75-80% of people have a child within 3 cycles. I knwo you don't wnat to imagine doing one more let alone 2 - I felt just the same. But I just wanted to give you something to consider with hope for the future.

Aw Baggio - I am so desparately sorry, please give yourself time to heal, my thoughts of hope are with you now.

When you have healed a little bit, try and focus on something to take you through the summer, some private time for reflection and family time, communication of your feelings really helps, I know not straight away, but I am really sorry and hope you can come out this stronger and ready again!

no go with this first treatment unfortunately but feel better today after a horrendous down day yesterday.. not quite up to thinking about doing it again but will no doubt feel differently in a couple of days. Maybe after i have had blood test friday it will finalise things in head and heart.

Am going to try acupuncture and anything else anyone can suggest in the mean time as they is supposedly nothing wrong with me so I will try and get my body ready for either the next treatment or to give myself a better chance without ivf. I have learnt so much by just reading thru other peoples experiences on here that I feel much more knowledgeable about what can be done to help yourself !!

how are you doing baggio? hope you are feeling better 2ww is grim esp the second week. Go do something to take your mind off it - v difficult I know cinema was always quite good. Saw my consultant on Friday who said he can find no reason not to try again, I seem to do everything really well except the conceiving! Had acupuncture with DS and going to have it again with the next attempt. apparently there is new research about acupuncture and implantation, so my consultant is keen for me to do it again.

baggio - if its not stress related it sounds hormonal to me! hope its the right type of hormone for you! drink plenty of water and REST!

one week to go til testing if af doesn't come earlier ..bit of a downer today, bad migraine and hot sweats ..trying to drink as much water as possible. Horrible feeling when u can't do anything to affect outcome but then u all know that one !!

baggio - how are you?

Your 14th attempt! Wow! Don't honestly think I could go through with it that many times tbh. But good for you, and hope you have a succesful outcome.

How you doing Baggio and Cedar?

I think I am going again later this year it will be our 14th attempt! We have a DS from our 10th I had thought our last attempt would be the last as we had run out of donor sperm, for ds to have a full sibling, but they have found 3 more vials! ha three more attempts in theory. I am now 38 and they say I am still young for IVF not so sure myself! good luck everybody going throught it at the moment.

Acinonyx - '40 bing the new 30' hu-hum, I'm knackered and feel 60, but me thinks that is because of twins and their age (3.8)

baggio - nothing wrong with planning your next IVF treatment, I think its a copeing mechanism in us, keeps our mind strong, although after so much I had made a decision to stop, but it worked

Hiya ...feel better today again still got a permanent low pain but no spotting weird spotting last night but hoping against hope it could be implantation now i am 6 days after E T .

I'm thinking about next ivf already just in case whereas I always thought I would just have one cos of expense ...am inspired by Zipadisuzy story too !!

Cedar - I would have been happy with twins but worried because it is a high risk pg and I have known a lot of twin pgs, and although most were OK some were not. I lost my first IVF pg so I know how anxious you must feel about another loss. It is the worst possible outcome.

Baggio - keep us up to date. Looks like my ER will be Monday. Headaches and nausea are annoying and I'm feeling like a fat bloated chicken ready to lay.

Zip - I was 43 when I had dd from IVF (dh was 45). But isn't 40 the new 30? Jill

baggio - how are you? I'm biting my nails, and I don't even know you, but really, we are here for you if you need any support at all.

The apprentice - hia, thank you for that compliment, but really we are just an ordinary couple with everyday normal problems like anybody else. We were very lucky that we had some inheritance money to pay for our last treatment! (but not in the sense that mil died for it) although what a lovely tribute to her, for us to have twins!

I was 43 when I gave birth to the twins and I bought them home from hospital on my DH's 50th birthday, so GO FOR IT!!!!!!!! oooh I'm all tingly on this thread!

In all seriousness though, it is one of the most emotional thing you can go through! and I hope I can support anybody out that needs it.

ZipadiSuzy, your story is inspiring! I imagine its been a long hard journey for you. Luckily my dh and I can afford some more ivf, but if we decide this is the way to go we need to get a move on, as I'm already 40.

baggio - never feel silly, IVF rules your life quite easily,

Feel better today and even a bit silly for being so worried but difficult to think about anything else ....having now heard from others in same boat or who have been thru it, its so much better ....wish I had asked for detailed description of ivf experience before I embarked ...so would be glad to share any details with anyone about to start !!

Have an eleven yr old who was conceived after 2 mths of clomid so maybe should have tried ivf a long time ago but used to be ever hopeful !

baggio - congratulations, this is the worst part of the treatment, 'THE WAIT' try not to worry too much about the pain, I do remember twinges, and I felt a little queasy, all turned out to be positive, so I know its hard to say, but try and relax, look after yourself and take it easy!

The Apprentice - yes all 3 children IVF 8 years between, not by choice, we couldn't afford it, then MIL died we had inheritance money and thought its now or never and went for it! wham bang thank you mam!!!!

Obviously you looked at my profile and can see I had twins the 2nd time round! joy oh joy

The treatment is so much easier now though, my ds who is 11yo now and it was a 3 month treatment, whereas the twins who are 3yo were a 2 week treatment, it was so fast in comparison.

I went through an early menopause at 16yo I had to have egg donor, my dsis did it the 1st time and the 2nd time was unknown donor! although I did have triplets 1st pregnancy but had m/c very early on, besides all the previous 12 years of hell!

I think you have to try hard not to read too much into side effects coz as you say they could be due to drugs and hormones.

Am keeping my fingers crossed for all of you.

yes first attempt .

very low period like pain but still there now 3 days after trf .. think it may be side effect of progesterone supps . . i had bleeding first day / now spotting too which as u can imagine didn't cheer me up !! maybe i am just going through whole list of side effects...

Is this your first IVF attempt , Baggio?

Baggio, I had period pain like tummy pains day after transfer. Don't know whether that was relevant.
