Hi
Me and hubby are desperately trying to concieve. We've been using ovulation sticks for 6 months, using fertility gel for 2 months. I know that 6 months might not seem that long and just wondered if anyone knows anything else we could try?

2 years then a miscarriage then a successful pregnancy for our first. Second happened on second cycle of no contraception, before we had even started trying properly.

All the advice others have given is spot on, 80% naturally conceive within a year. Ovulation sticks and temping will confirm your hormones are correct but not that you are actually ovulating - only a scan can definitively confirm that.

Stay healthy and active, try relax as much as you can (avoiding stress really does help) and try enjoy this time as much as you can - we kept lists of things we wanted to do/enjoy before we had a family while we were trying and focused on ticking things off. It's so hard to avoid thinking about when you want is so so bad though!

Also you could try temping to confirm when you ovulate. Are you taking folic acid and vitamin d? Apart from that make sure you are eating healthily and exercising. Obviously also dtd every other day in your fertile week if poss and there’s not much more you can do. Good luck and try not to stress about it. I found speaking to my doctor really helped

Lenners just be aware you are asking people who are more likely to have taken longer to conceive as they have come to forums to discuss conception issues. If you asked the general population there is likely to be more varied answers. My doctor has told me even for perfectly healthy couples, only 80% of them will be successful within a year so it really varies

Hey there,

So if you are over age of 35 you can go see your GP now about fertility. If you are under, you can always go still just for general chat and some reassurance.

What are you cycle lengths like?

For us, DS was conceived the one time we didn't use any protection but we are now at end of cycle 10 TTC #2

sexnotgender · 15/05/2018 07:52

4 months, had an early miscarriage last month and I’m now 5 weeks with this one so fingers crossed it sticks!

FoxyRoxy · 14/05/2018 23:42

DC1 I was on the pill, dc2 TTC 3 years, dc3 one time when dc2 was 4 months old. Currently ttc number 4. Have hwd MC and chemical pregnancies in between DC 1 and 2. I'm almost 40 so hoping it doesn't take long this time. Good luck op x

Laurenita · 14/05/2018 23:02

It amazes me how you go through life and everyone and their pet dogs get pregnant at the drop of a hat... ‘I missed one pill and I got pregnant’, ‘I sneezed and I got pregnant’, ‘I used 20 different types of birth control and still got pregnant’.... and it scared the bejesus out of you. Then you actually come to TTC and... tumbleweed 😒

Brumbrum05 · 14/05/2018 22:07

Thanks everyone.

4yoniD · 14/05/2018 22:07

Dc1 - 1.5 years, 2 miscarriages
Dc2 - two days, although the first day may have done it.

DoneAdulting · 14/05/2018 22:06

First month with 1st baby.

3 years and counting for the 2nd.

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 22:03

Got pregnant with my 9 year old daughter whilst on the pill. For number 2, we were trying for 20 months with no pregnancies and no fertility issues on either side. Have finally decided to throw in the towel so no longer trying. It’s perfectly normal for it to take a year and actually not abnormal to take up to 2 years

Lauren83 · 14/05/2018 22:03

9 years, 5 IVF cycles, 2 MMC and 3 egg donors. Got there in the end though

canthavethenameiwant · 14/05/2018 22:02

21 months and 4 chemical pregnancies, currently 34 weeks pregnant
Hang in there and don't stress, the month we didn't bother much it happened 😉

CoupleOfPushBacks · 14/05/2018 21:59

12 weeks from meeting my ex I fell pregnant.

I'd actually decided we'd wait 2 years to start trying.

I realised I was already pregnant when I made that decision Blush

BuntyII · 14/05/2018 21:59

4 months for my first.

Dorsetmove · 14/05/2018 21:57

DC 1 = 11 months
DC 2 = about 1 minute!!!!! His father is now my EX!!!

TTC7 · 14/05/2018 21:55

@Lenners hi there, I'm in a similar boat to you. On cycle 5 and just got AF today 😔 Last month I was 5 days late on my period and really thought I was pregnant (I think I may well have been but something went wrong). I've been taking my BBT and ovulation sticks (as well as pumping myself with vitamins/herbs). I think next cycle I'm going to try and not do the BBT/ovulation sticks so obsessively. I totally empathise, I know on paper it's not long and especially compared to some others, but it feels like a lifetime...

delilabell · 14/05/2018 21:22

7 years. ....three cycles of fertility treatment.....Adoption. ...sex once in three months and pregnant. Dd now 2 years old!
It will happen op, you will be a mum no matter what :-)

TheArtfulScreamer · 14/05/2018 21:16

Five years and counting with no diagnosable fertility issues, IVF starts on Fri. Hope your journey is a shorter one than mine.

Redrosebelle · 14/05/2018 21:10

First pregnancy - 11 cycles of perfectly timed sex. Final month we dtd twice and had a beautiful boy!
Second pregnancy - 7-8 cycles. Currently 12 weeks pregnant!
Please don’t stress, the likelihood is you won’t have any troubles. It’s normal to take this long!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 14/05/2018 20:55

4 years of regular sex .... nothing. Then one month we'd barely seen each other and dtd just the once and that resulted in twins Grin

wasthataburp · 14/05/2018 20:53

First time just over a year and second time was probably the first time we had unprotected sex! I think average is 12 months

Pudding01 · 14/05/2018 20:50

Took us two weeks with the first two, which were sadly ectopic pregnancies. 3 months with our DD and we have been trying for 7/8 months so far this time around x

Greenglassteacup · 14/05/2018 20:46

Conceived first time with our child. Then numerous miscarriages then nothing more.

Wish you all the best OP

PregnantStudentNurse · 14/05/2018 20:42

14 months and currently 8 weeks. Lots of luck to you xx
