New thread...

OP posts:
Ready · 18/05/2007 15:44

Rah - Oh flower, big hugs. I am really sorry.

Basilbrush - Welcome to the thread, everything Seaside said is bang on, so I won't repeat it - but you are very welcome to join us here. I personally use the Fertility Friend software, the basic membership which is free, because I have the little booklet that Seaside mentioned that I use for me - the FF is just to share the charts with the girls. How long have you been trying? Hope you enjoy the thread - we are a lovely bunch!

Seaside - How you feeling?

RahRah1 · 18/05/2007 15:00

Just nipping in to say got my period - a bit earlier than usual, GREAT! Really in a deep sulk, so will go and weep some more and come back when my mood lifts a bit.

Seaside.... Remember I am waiting for your recipe of success (all your remedies and drops etc!- I know you posted them before, but I will pay more attention this time promise!)

seaside72 · 18/05/2007 13:49

Hi basil - so sorry to hear of your m/c - do come and join us - this is a brilliant thread

Re temping:
Yes - you need a digital thermometer but it must be a BBT (Basal Body Therm) you can order these online or get one at Boots (in the ovulation kits/tests section) in comes in a lovely little folder with a booklet to chart your temps on! (I seem to remember it being about £13?)

You need to take your temp every morning as soon as you wake (before going to loo, drink of water or anything!) It is best to try and keep the time roughly the same every morning if you can.

It is ideal to start on CD1 and you are looking for lower temps pre ov and then a distinct temp shift upwards (around 0.1-0.2 degrees c) when this shift happens it indicates you have ovulated in the previous 24-36 hour period.

Temp should then stay high (above your cover line which is basically a line you can draw just above at least the previous 6 low temps before ov) until AF - sometime it will stay high for a few days into AF also - mine used to.

There are 2 really good software charting websites - Ovusoft and Fertility Friend -Ovusoft is really good but you have to pay straight away (not too much though) for a yearly subscription. FF gives you a free trial and then you can choose to pay and keep all the VIP features or continue free with basic charting.

If you check out some of our charts on this thread you can get an idea of the 2 websites and see how we chart/ what it looks like also

Charting and temping is realy good for getting to know and understand your cycle especially if you are a bit anal and controlling like me The first cycle you chart will all be a bit blind IYKWIM but hopeully as you go along with subsequent cycles you will start to recognise your own personal patterns

There are loads of brilliant, wonderful and knowledegeable girls on this thread who will help you out and answer any questions

HTH - good luck

basilbrush · 18/05/2007 11:08

Thank you!

basilbrush · 18/05/2007 11:07

Dear Ladies - am wondering if I could butt in and ask a few questions??

Am sick of not knowing if I've ovulated or not. CD 16 - Could have been yesterday, could be right now, could be next week... As this is only my second cycle after m/c, hormones are all the place and might have longer cycle so might have jumped the gun with this week's shagathon
So think next month am going to have into get into this temping lark - just so I know when to stop BD-ing!!
Could I join you and can anyone help me out and explain in idiot's terms? Have I got this right?

  1. I use digital thermometer first thing in the morning
  2. Temp goes up suddenly telling you HAVE ovulated not that you are ABOUT to
  3. Temp stays high and falls just before AF

What's the best way to record temp? I noticed some ladies seem to doing it on websites? Are these free? Which is the best one?

I'm presuming there's no point starting temping now, you have to wait till CD1??

MrsMc ? CD39 20/21dpo LP 10-12 (10th cycle) BFP

Still no ovulation for me - I have ovulated on 19 before, so who knows.

Minxi - It certainly looks from your temps as though you ovulated on 17 - but your EWCM suggests earlier. (?) I'd stick with 17 as ther are 6 temps below 18's temp and them's the rules --- it was a good decision to override FF - can't work out why it didn't even suggest ovulation for you on 19 when there was another temp rise (not that I think that would have been accurate - but it would have looked like FF was paying some attention!!). Your temp has shot up this morning hasn't it! Good sign hopefully [crossed fingers] - you haven't been this hot before have you? How are you feeling?

NappyValley - LOL at "the one armed bandit" - bless him! Hope you have (had) a lovely holiday. Not sure if anyone else picked up on your question, but BD=Baby dancing. I much prefer your Bump Uglies We should adopt that!

Rah - Hope you are ok chick!? How is it not temping? Fingers crossed for you

Anyone seen Iwillbe?? She hasn't updated her chart for ages!! Bit concerned.

Jess - Glad you are feeling a bit more positive! I am going to take a break from temping next month too. I definitely sleep less well now that I am temping - I wake up and work out if it is worth temping and adjusting up, or if I can get away with going back to sleep. Glad I am not the only one Affected By The Thermometer!

Feedmenow - Is it a fertility friend or TCOYF chart that you've got? How are you getting on with remembering to temp? I think that once you get into the habit, it's harder to forget. Or perhaps it's just me!

Mum03 Hope you have (had) a lovely time with your parents. Hope they enjoyed seeing "Mum-House" - which reminds me, I must go and check out your blog!

Beansprout - Greedy answered your temp question, I'll just add my tuppence worth if I may? I think that if your temps are pretty consistent at a level, or in a range, then a drastically higher temp would be food for thought - but the overall pattern is more important than the actual temps - if that makes sense. How long have you been charting? How are you feeling?

Seaside - Don't be daft, no blushing either! We'd almost forgotten what a BFP was - now you and MrsMc in one month - let us revel in it!! How are you feeling?

Cityangel - How are you getting on with not temping? Do you think it has made you more relaxed at all?

Duchesse - How you feeling?

Sorry if I have missed anyone!!

minxi · 18/05/2007 08:09

Have overridden chart with ovulating day 17...as that is what I think we think ?! Ready need you to check chart and see what you think...please as sure I did ovulate puts me at 9 dpo.... which is also good as looking back at charts my temp started dipping at 8/9 dpo basically though haven't a clue ?!

Good morning ladies!

Wow your temp is high this morning Minxi. I've never yet had a temp above 36.8 and it's rarely above 36.4! Do you think you OVd on CD17?

How are you this morning rahrah? I am feeling slightly more positive, as there are lots of people who get no symptoms before a BFP. So I shouldn't really write off this cycle before af arrives, which will probably be Monday or Tuesday.

Have a nice weekend with your families nappyvalley and mum03. I'll probably keep away from MN this weekend. I need to try and forget about the 2WW (if that's possible).

Will catch up on Monday.

Hi everyone - good to see some old faithful support gang here too. I just wanted to remind you that I will be away from the computer until at least monday as my parents are coming to visit, and since I rarely see them, I will be avoiding time on mn totally. Please don't feel I am neglecting you, and I will be thinking of you all, especially Rah and Minxi as they come to the end of their 2ww, (and possibly nice surprises?).

MrsMc - glad to read that you are getting stronger positives, very reassuring.

Seaside - good to hear that you also have had strong positives. Hope you are enjoying the shock of it all.

Ready - {{{{hugs}}}}

to everyone else too. See you on monday hopefully.

NappyValley · 17/05/2007 21:26

yes thank greedy - I love to learn something new.

Just a lottle sotry ot share for those still feeling the drought...
Went to farm yesterday with neighbour who has a girl slightly older than my "the one armed bandit".

I never realised til we were chatting in the car that pregnancy was an issue for her (number 2 about to drop immiently). They were trying for 3 years and had 4 miscarriages (always around 8 wks) then tried clomid. Luckily she had no nasty side affects and hey presto successful delivery and then no 2 has happend by accident!!

My point is that I would never have guessed they had been through such an ordeal and although you never forget that feeling of TTC and constantly being aware of your cycle, no matter how hard you try and relax, once you get to the end of the journey, all the current emotional roller coaster just fades in to the background.

MrsMcJ thanks for the update. Isn't it funny how the most tiring and debiliating part of being pregnant is actually the first 12 weeks, when you don't really want poeple to know!!

Right off to bed. Flight is early morning, but can't wait.

Temp happy gals.

p.s. Seaside - you can stop temping now you have earned a rest plus as you said it could add unnecessary anxiety. Relax and enjoy.

beansprout · 17/05/2007 18:26

Thanks greedy!

scorpio1 · 17/05/2007 18:08

seaside-that would be funny!

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/05/2007 17:07

beany - triphasic does mean 3 phases, so first phase is low temps pre ov, then higher temps post ov, and then some people get a third increase which can be a sign of implantation. so sometimes a triphasic chart can be a bit of a clue that you might be pg (look at seaside and mrs' charts cos i think they are both triphasic!) BUT equally you can get triphasic charts and not be pg!

MrsMcJnr · 17/05/2007 16:10

Ladies never managed to get on the PC last night and tonight will be the same! No chance of catching up so I?d better just start from here! Can anyone give me a brief summary of key events this week? I know about Seaside

Fingers crossed for all those waiting I haven?t left you, I just can?t keep up at the mo, work is busy and in the evenings I am knackered.

I am still temping but I?m not sure I?ll do it for much longer as it is stressful after a BFP I think, if it drops at all you start to panic ? we?ll see.

Sorry if I didn?t come and tell you what happened on Monday I did mean too. Basically, I did the right thing taking the aspirin and was told to continue with that. I need to have a scan to ensure the pregnancy is in the right place before I start the meds (as they are V dangerous to me if pregnancy is ectopic). As I was only 4+6 then they refused to scan me so I have to go back on Monday for a scan, blood tests and injection lessons. I?ll only be 5+6 so think the best I?ll see is a gestational sac with a yolk in it but no fetal pole of heartbeat. I know the purpose of the scan is to assess position not viability but I hope I can persuade them to bring me in again in a few weeks time to reassure me that things are as they should be. Apparently I?ll need to have weekly appointments to check how I am doing on the meds ? its all a bit scary and I am just taking each day as it comes

I?ve missed you all

honeyapple · 17/05/2007 15:55

Congratulations SEASIDE!!!!

Wow... things are hotting up for the temp buddies! That horrible drought is well and truely gone. .

So- who will be next?

Lots of love as always

xx

beansprout · 17/05/2007 14:00

Thanks for that. What does triphasic mean though (other than there being 3 phases )?

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/05/2007 12:52

not sure about that beany, although if your chart goes triphasic then that can be a good sign. probably any chnge from the norm is a good sign...........i remember seaside said her post ov temps were actually lower than normal this month and its the only month she has been pg! so any change is prob good, although i have temped with all my pgs and my post ov temps are always consistent, whether i am pg or not.........so i guess you just never know!

beansprout · 17/05/2007 11:21

Question, following on from Nappy's post - is a high post ov temp a good thing? I know it increases but is it a case of the higher the better (within your own range of course).

Hi all sorry been a bit busy, but have been reading and getting v excitied for seaside and then this morning I read the FANTASMAGORICAL news that

THE PREGNANCY PANDA STRIKES AGAIN

seaside I am so so so pleased for you girl. Just chill there is very little to do at this stage but make sure you eat breakfast, and get lots of sleep if you can as that really helps reduce morning sickness. Hope you don't get too much. I think it has improved round here now, but last year you didn't see a midwife til 12weeks and no scan until 20 weeks if you were under35! 12 weeks scans have now been introduced thankfully!! Look after yourself and don't be suprised if you feel hotter than normal. Cell division is quite a power house! Sorry I am waffling AGAIN...

jess/rah sorry to hear you guys are feeling low I have tea wagon on standby!

fettle I did wonder about that grapejuice comment thanks for clarifying as all I could think of was "that must sting"

As for me well according to FF I ov'd sunday, but I don't really agree and think and hope it was friday eve/sat or else we probably did not manage enough BD (OK got to ask what BD actually stands for. It think it should be BU as in bump uglies . Having said that, I am trying to stop the little voice in my head - yes you all know the one I mean- that is saying "this is your month, honest". Mainly because my normal post OV temp has only been 36.49 for last 6 mths - BUT this month it is 36.75 ish.

I am dashing around today packing famileis stuff as we are flying to Malta tomorrow to visit many relatives (with ds in plaster - can I get a t-shirt with "I did not beat my child" please) So will be off radar til next thursday. Am not taking thermo, as if it is like last month AF will have started - if not will have to wait and see. at least it will be sunny!

my goodness I have waffled on- anyone still awake????????

love to all and MrsMcJ did I miss it, but how did trip to docs go? Lots of food and sleep for you too Mrs.

weepootleflump · 17/05/2007 09:23

Chuffed to bits for you seaside

Look after yourself, you may feel a bit neglected healthcare-wise as no-one is much interested in you until you're around 10 weeks. Just sit back and wait for the morning sickness now .

Jess, I totally agree with you about not sleeping well when temping. I only start now on around CD10 then stop when I confirm OV.

Morning. Am feeling strangely ambivalent today. Just biding my time and getting through the next few days. I'll then have more energy to really start tormenting myself at the weekend.

Rah and Jess, sorry to hear you are feeling this is not your month.
Minxi - I haven't seen your chart but that seems like a high pre-ov temp, so maybe you have (sorry if I have missed something there).
Seaside - how are you feeling today?!!
MrsMcJ - and you too?
You both have to stick around as the preg. panda obviously likes you and we need her here!
Duchesse - how are you today? Have you decided on a plan?

Big hello to everyone else
