I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the threads were inspired by a woman who was thoroughly fed up of being given advice on how to conceive with all sorts of "fool-proof" advice. Eating yams was the final straw Grin The treads are titled somewhat in her honour.

cheshiremama89 · 23/05/2018 12:31

Can someone explain the YAM thing? X

Si1ver · 23/05/2018 12:25

@BGDino it's not so bad. Finger prick with a lancet and then drops into a test tube.

No worse than most diabetics.

BGDino · 23/05/2018 12:09

@Looking you’re braver than me I’m a doctor and the one time I took my own blood put me off from ever trying again!!!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 23/05/2018 09:42

@Si1ver. No, it was with Oxford Online Pharmacy. They are pretty good, two tests for £45 which isn't bad.

@WonkyDonk87. It wasn't a massive vial lol. It's too much faff to get my bloods done with a phlembotamist here so I thought it would be easier to do DIY and you get a copy of your results so no chasing the surgery for them :-)

Si1ver · 23/05/2018 08:33

@LookingAtTheStars89 did you go to fertility2u? They're great and DIYd my 21 day bloods too.

Rubberduckies · 23/05/2018 06:47

Hi ladies. I'm so bad at keeping up with the thread! Tentative congratulations @Si1ver - fingers and toes all crossed for you.

I also spot before my period after ovulation, often from about 5dpo. I did have day 21 bloods done which were ok so Gp didn't know why...

Still waiting for a letter for nhs referral but we're going for a private fertility assessment next month and will have hycosy and sa, and then discuss all our tests with the consultant.

Fed up of not knowing basically. Even if the Gp tried to reassure us that at our ages (26 and 27) we don't need to worry too much for another 10 years. Yeah not keen to wait that long actually...!

WonkyDonk87 · 22/05/2018 22:15

@LookingAtTheStars89 You had to fill I vial using lancets?? Wtf! That's ridiculous. Why not just a normal test?

LexieJean · 22/05/2018 21:14

Haha 😂 @looking well done! Sounds like the clomid has really made a difference for you, I hope it gets you ovulating!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 22/05/2018 18:44

Did any of you hear the word "FUUUUUCK!" being squealed today? That was me as I did my DIY day 21 blood test. Three lancets and lots of squeals later I managed to get a vial of blood lol. It took AGES, I must have the slowest blood EVER. When I did the second Lancet, I accidently went in the same spot as the first one so that stung! My poor pinky finger is still stinging Sad. I don't think I'll ever be in any danger of bleeding to death!

I have had SEVEN days of watery cm and two of ewcm! I'm assuming that's the clomid. I'm starting to dry up now though. No clue if I've Ov'd or if the cm coincided with ov'ing so I'm doing a day 21 and day 28 to compare.

I hope everyone is having a good week :-)

Hello wannamumma. I am 14 weeks pregnant, and geriatric at 40 (41 at edd) - I had my first at 32, but met DH late and have had a rather rough journey to get here. I know a fair few over 40 mums, and although it has been hard I am convinced that the Daily Fail et al havemade us all far more terrified of our age than strictly necc. My mum always bangs on about how many late babies her mums generation had, so fingers crossed for you.

S1lver! Every single thing crossed for you, keep us posted :)

SparkwoodAnd21 · 21/05/2018 19:57

Hi @wannamumma, I’m 41 so I’m a geriatric too.

@orca my skin hates me. I had the usual teenage acne but then when I went on the Pill at 18 it was so clear. Like, splash with water and run out the door clear. When I started taking lithium 3 years ago I broke out so badly, way worse than anything as a teenager. Now that I’m off the Pill but still on lithium my skin’s not happy. I get whiteheads and pimples and cystic spots which I’ve never had. I try to keep up a 3 step routine with salicylic acid containing products (Neutrogena oil free cleanser, clean and clear oil free toner, clean and clear oil free moisturiser) which has helped, also before starting TTC I used a topical retinoid (adapalene/benzylperoxide) to get things under control. God knows what pregnancy will do to my skin but I’m ok with that...

LexieJean · 21/05/2018 08:31

Oooh @si1ver a tentative whoop for you! 🤞 for official testing next weekend

Welcome newbies!

@orca I get a flare up just before FP, some huge really sore spots sometimes. It’s normally just before an event like a birthday or wedding when cameras will be out. I stay clearer if I reduce my diary and sugar consumption!

Chooklass · 21/05/2018 06:27

Hi @wannamumma ! Congrats on meeting your partner! You might find this thread useful?

40+ ttc: 2018 is full of bfp's!www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/3207359-40-ttc-2018-is-full-of-bfps

@OrcinusOrca I had cystic acne for years - it destroyed my confidence. At the time, the only thing which kept it at bay for me was the pill, which I hated being on. My skin has improved a lot over last few years but I noticed a big difference recently when I started reducing sugar and trying a blood-sugar-balancing diet for pcos. (But I know what works for one person's acne doesn't always work for others!). For me it was definitely hormonal, and if at a certain point in your cycle maybe is for you too? You have my sympathies! Xx

wannamumma · 20/05/2018 22:00

Hi all, I'm new here. At 43 I've not had children but now having finally met a lovely man we want one. I know it's unlikely but we've just been for tests at the fertility clinic and get results on Monday 😬😬. Anyone else a potentially geriatric mother? X

WonkyDonk87 · 20/05/2018 20:46
  • @Owlpatrol Thanks
WonkyDonk87 · 20/05/2018 20:46

@Si1ver Eek! Crossing everything for you. Let us know how you get on.

@Owlpatrol

@OrcinusOrca I have terrible acne, clusters of little spots and occasional massive cystic acne. Nothing seems to make a difference overall but I'm trying to cleanse/tone/moisturise regularly to help it. It's crap, especially at 30, sympathies.

OrcinusOrca · 20/05/2018 18:57

@Si1ver fingers crossed for you!
@Owlpatrol Sad time to crack the chocolate out?

Since Feb I've been getting AWFUL acne on my chin. Starts a week before AF and I'm CD2 now and I'm getting more. It's awful awful. One of them feels so huge. Does anyone else get this or know why it's suddenly started since Feb? Massively affecting my confidence Sad

Owlpatrol · 20/05/2018 16:38

Hi mum's....more spotting today along with cramps cycke day 25. Never spot this early and I've been over analysing everything Sad so annoyed for an early af

BGDino · 20/05/2018 16:18

@s1lver will cross all my crossables for you xxx

MynameisJune · 20/05/2018 14:36

@si1ver tentative congratulations! Keeping everything crossed for you.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 20/05/2018 12:54

@Si1ver. Meh, what can I say, I'm invested! 😂

Si1ver · 20/05/2018 12:30

@LookingAtTheStars89 you stalker! 😂

I hope the clomid does the trick for you

LookingAtTheStars89 · 20/05/2018 12:28

@Si1ver. Eeek! I'm not going to lie lol kinda been checking up on the IVF thread to see how you ate getting on. I read yesterday about your test and excidedly told DH about it lol. Fingers tightly crossed for you! I can't imagine what it's been like for you, especially with all the drugs, some days during this cycle I've found the clomid a bit rough but that's nothing compared to what you've had to put in your body. You are very brave x x
