BFP after period!?

Hello! I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on my situation. I had what I thought was my period on the day it was due, it was quite light for me and lasted 3 days. I thought we were out for that month, due to husband travelling haven't been able to try again this month. On Friday I felt compelled to take a test, to my surprise BFP! Has anybody had this before? I've been for an early scan today and they couldn't see a sac but said it could be too early.

Oh @Muffin7 so sorry to read the update. I'm very pleased the possibility of an ectopic has been ruled out. It's a good idea for them to keep an eye on you until your blood levels have decreased. Hope you're doing okay (as well as you can be).

Just wanted to give a quick, and probably final update. I've had the results from my second blood test, my levels have gone down, so I have definitely had a miscarriage. However, my levels haven't gone down enough for the EPU to sign me off. They said they have gone down enough though to discount an ectopic pregnancy. So, not really sure what happened, I assume my 'period' was me loosing the baby, weird that I had a negative pregnancy test the day before!!

No they didn't tell me my levels, will find out on Thursday morning and then see if they've gone up/down rtf by lunchtime

Thanks L1zz13, I'm definitely a glass half empty person, luckily my husband is a glass half full person so we balance each other out. Just a waiting game until Thursday now.

I had the ectopic and then 3 miscarriages but am currently 20 weeks pregnant so it took a while but I'm sort of nearly there. I don't think the ectopic and miscarriages were linked and I've not had any treatment for this pregnancy to be any different so it could really just have been shit luck.

I was told to take two weeks off what I thought my dates were.
As the first two weeks of pregnancy include conception. The egg traveling down and then implanting. Only then does it start to produce the hcg that can be detected and begin to develop into something the sonographers can easily find.
Although pregnancy lasts 40 wks. It's only really 38. The first two are the ingredients mixing, the rest is cooking time!
Maybe it's just to soon. Allow yourself a little bit of happiness after all you you have a 50/50 chance.

Yeah please keep me updated. My ectopic was one of my worst experiences because it dragged on for weeks and weeks. It took so long one of the nurses sent me a 'congratulations it's finally over' handmade card - I had long got over the emotional grief of it not being a viable pregnancy and then just wanted it over so the card was gratefully received.

Hopefully it isn't the same for you. One good thing though is the EPU will look after you. Fingers crossed that it is resolved as quickly as possible.

It's a horrendous time, if I'm honest I want to just get into bed and wait it out until Thursday, but I'm lucky enough to have two beautiful children who absolutely won't let me sit still. Thank you so much for my support. If you are interested, I will let you know what happens on Thursday.

Sorry it's still all going on. The bloods - the second lot - should help them understand what's going on. If they increase, you'll probably be told that unless there is something visible that it's a 'pregnancy of unknown location'. If that is their conclusion, they'll probably monitor you with bloods every 48 hrs to see if the levels rise or fall. It's a really shit stressful position to be in and you have all my sympathy

Just a quick update as been to the EPU today. I first had to take a pregnancy test, which was positive. They then did an internal scan, during which they couldn't see anything. Finally I had some bloods taken, which will be repeated on Thursday, so by the end of Thursday I should have confirmation as to what's going on, which I suspect is a miscarriage. They are just a bit confused as to why I had a negative test the day before my period, then a couple of days of light bleeding and now I'm getting consistent BFPs.

Hopefully the EPU will be able to see something. They will almost definitely give you an internal scan so be prepared for that. Fingers crossed for you x

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. No, this was a private scan, have an appointment at the early pregnancy unit on Tuesday. I bled for 3 days when my period was due, but nothing since. It's all just so bizarre.

No with my ectopic which was quite a few years ago now, I hadn't tested until after my 'period' but I continued to bleed although it was a dark spotting really. When I had my first scan which was internal they couldn't see anything and so I ended up being diagnosed by blood tests repeated every 48 hours.

Were you seen in an early pregnancy unit?

Did you have a negative pregnancy test on the day your period was due, followed by a positive test 2 weeks later?
