TTC #1, Cycle 1. Anyone In?

Hi all,
Longtime lurker, occasional commenter, rare poster here.
DH and I decided to start to TTC after much deliberation recently.
I've been on the pill for 16 years and haven't had a natural period in that time! Had my withdrawal bleed which started on 15th Jan and think I may have ovulated on Thursday 2nd Feb. I was doing OPKs (I know - first cycle, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going all in!) and got an almost-positive then - didn't have any more OPKs with me to test slightly later in the day.
DTD numerous times in what I'm estimating is my fertile week (working on the basis that my cycle is 28 days but don't really know at the moment).
So now the waiting begins.
Anyone in the same position or want to join?
Advice and your stories welcomed!

Afternoon all. I'm Sorry, I'm crashing your thread a bit here, I'm just waiting for MC to finish before starting on cycle 1 again. Just a few questions and pointers, I don't mean to sound rude or out of turn, just trying to help...

Do any of you track your temperatures? OPK's are notoriously unreliable and personally think they should be banned! The most reliable methods of tracking ovulation is by taking your temps at the same time everyday and charting your cervical mucus.

I started out with Ovia App and while it looked nice and cutsey, it kept changing my ovulation days and so I've tried about 3 different apps, by far the best I've used and the one I fell pregnant with was Fertility Friend but have a look at a few and get a good feel for them first.

I know alot of couples have had massive success with the SMEP (sperm meets egg plan) you can find it if you Google SMEP.

I am not an expert and I don't claim to know everything, just a few pointers that I've picked up on my very short journey. We got pregnant first full month trying after quite a few months researching. Unfortunately it's ended in miscarriage (MC) but we want to try again asap.

There are also various drinks and vitamins that can improve cm to make it more sperm friendly (if things are a bit Sahara down there), again it's just a case of researching and asking in the forums. Good luck everyone and congratulations to any Bfp's already! 💗💗

Amazing @drswim! Congrats!
I’m now on cycle 2. Cd 4 but I’ll be out this cycle anyway as he is away over my fertile week, will have to wait for cycle 3 now! Boo!

jemimafuddleduck · 01/03/2018 12:48

DrSwim that's fantastic news! How exciting, thanks for letting us know. Congratulations xx

I'm a mooncup fan!

I tested today with a pink dye test... BFP! It's a bit faint but definitely pink and showed up within the time. Can't quite believe it. Guess the internet cheapies were a bit crap! So excited Grin

AnotherOriginalUsername · 01/03/2018 06:44

I've decided to put my big girl pants on and get acquainted with the mooncup 😱

drswim · 28/02/2018 23:01

jemimafuddleduck AF is late actually! I won't be able to buy another test till Friday though (plus all this snow means maybe not even then!). I feel very bloated- maybe a sign?!

I used the amazon ones too, but don't think I will buy them again and it's too easy for me to test stupidly early and get a bit obsessed!

AnotherOriginalUsername eek first one in 10 years?! Good luck!

jemimafuddleduck · 28/02/2018 22:35

Yes - up to 6 days early. These are the ones I've been using as they came with my ovulation strips (the £1.79 ones)

@jemimafuddleduck I'll have a look on amazon, do they say you can use them early tho? I think I've basically just given up hope until I get AF and can get a proper idea of my cycle. I think in your shoes I wouldn't be so restrained!

jemimafuddleduck · 28/02/2018 22:26

Another that's annoying. What will next month be - c2?
Kitkat how frustrating! Regarding cost - I've been using amazon strip pregnancy tests - they're quite cheap. Every two weeks sounds good but I'm not sure I'd be able to be that restrained. I'm only 6dpo (if I even ovulated!) and am already tempted to test Blush

Still no AF......34 days since implant removal. Decided I'm going to leave testing to every two weeks now as otherwise I'll be spending a fortune on the bloody things! We haven't really DTD much this month so don't think there's much chance. Both been working too much and also sick. Still no EWCM so do know when to do it anyway!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/02/2018 21:17

Oh spoke too soon, looks like AF may be arriving. First one for over 10 years, should be interesting !!

jemimafuddleduck · 28/02/2018 19:32

DrSwim any sign of AF?

OP posts:
jemimafuddleduck · 28/02/2018 19:31

Hi AnotherOriginalUsername! No news here. I'm doubting whether I ovulated at all this month now and am worried that things will take a little longer than I'd hoped Sad But you never know! I'll be testing next Sunday - 11th. AF is due Monday.
People say the pink dye tests are the best.
Good luck... PLEASE let us know how you get on and give us hope! X

Hi ladies, how are we all doing?

I believe that I ovulated on 13th, so about 15 days ago. Still no sign of AF. I'm going to pick up another pregnancy test on my way home from work, any recommendations as to which is best?

drswim · 26/02/2018 08:50

Due tomorrow and negative test today. Guess that means I'm out! Bit disappointed, but always knew it was unlikely in the first cycle. I've signed up for the Clearblue trial, so fingers crossed I'm in the test arm so I can actually work out when I ovulate next month....

I already have a growing list of names Blush my DH is also more relaxed than me!

flyingplum · 25/02/2018 23:10

@orangekitkat13 - mine deffo varies in, um, quantity, but I always have some.

orangekitkat13 · 25/02/2018 22:42

@jemimafuddleduck lucky you, my DH turns down every name I suggest!
I've also had no change in my CM, is everyone supposed to get EWCM??

jemimafuddleduck · 25/02/2018 21:54

Mipha I've been using OPKs but I think what I thought was a positive on Friday wasn't... I don't really know what I'm doing to be honest! I haven't noticed major changes in my CM so that's no use for me.
Username yeah we have also talked lots about names, in fact we had a long discussion yesterday about them. I'm an over thinker whereas my DH is more of a "that's nice, let's go with that!"

AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/02/2018 21:29

*grandad

AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/02/2018 21:28

We even have names picked out Hmm

(In fairness, my husband's brother and his girlfriend are expecting and my husband has always wanted to name a son after his granded, a name which would go very well with BiL's other children's names, so husband staked his claim early on!)

Mipha · 25/02/2018 21:13

@vizslababy could be implantation!
I also can’t think about anything else. I’ve looked online at prams and clothes, everything! Shouldn’t really as this might takes ages.
Definitely had PMT this morning and loads of cramping and spotting. AF will probs be in full force tonight or tomorrow, bit pants but this means my first proper cycle has been 28 days which is what it used to be.
Onto cycle 2.
I haven’t told my partner when my fertile week is or anything (don’t want to put pressure on him) but we just ended up having sex a lot that week anyway, instigated by him so maybe it’s hormones or pheromones or something!
@jemimafuddleduck how are you tracking your ovulation? I’m just gonna assume mine day 14 as I can’t be bothered getting into temping and opks. Might try and check my CM this cycle and see if that shows anything.

jemimafuddleduck · 25/02/2018 20:17

Ahh kitkat it's hard isn't it! My DH and I are on opposite shifts this week so not sure when we're going to get chance!

Username - yeah I do the same. It's crazy how expensive things are isn't it although I do think I'll buy whatever I can second hand. My DH wants a Bloom high chair which are amazing but vvv expensive... plus I've told him he maybe wants to actually get my up duffed before he starts thinking about high chairs....! Hmm

AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/02/2018 19:45

@jemimafuddleduck I've spent today looking at essential baby equipment and trying to work out roughly how much it'll all cost Confused

orangekitkat13 · 25/02/2018 19:33

@vizslababy fingers crossed it's implantation for you.

@jemimafuddleduck I'm
Exactly the same, it's all I can think about right now!

Another BFN this morning. Just don't know what's going on with my body, don't know when to DTD really, just trying to do it a couple times a week. That's proving hard though. DH gets home so tired (I work from home so easier for me) and just isn't in the mood. I can't imagine doing this for a year or more, hope it happens for us all soon!

jemimafuddleduck · 25/02/2018 15:14

Hi vizslababy and welcome! Sorry to hear about your MC. Hope this month works out for you.

I can't stop thinking about TTC, is anyone else the same? I should have ovulated according to apps today, but I think it happened Friday. We didn't DTD at all last week but did it yesterday morning and today, so even if it is post ovulation I'm not completely out, right? But I wasn't very well, so that would make conceiving less likely wouldn't it?

If I have already ovulated I guess I'm now effectively in the TWW. My period would be due on 12th March. Gah. Just feeling a bit pissed off.

And it's only cycle 2!

Sorry for the rant...
