Hi rhi i didn't have a great experience, beyond the blood and sperm tests they didn't have funding for any further tests (like ultrasound) because i have a child already, and i was told I'm on my own. The tests were all normal and it was only through a scan and diagnostic surgery that they found all my problems, including a polyp, adhesions and endo. I wish i could have gone back 12 months and just paid privately.

Hopefully you'll have a better time

Cariad2017 · 07/02/2018 07:38

Rhi - Your GP’s attitude is difficult to predict but from personal experience, they were dismissive when I went to see them 5 months after an ectopic pregnancy on the basis that any conception at all is a positive and they’ve been dismissive again this time round (despite DH’s fairly gloomy SA results, he was told that having fathered a child already, it was pretty likely to happen again).,,

They should as a minimum book you in for the 3-5 day FSH blood test (which they ought to use as an opportunity to check other things that can impact fertility such as thyroid function) and the 21 day progesterone test. Your OH will probably need to make a separate appointment if he wants his SA done.

What happens beyond the initial blood tests/ SA is largely a postcode lottery. We weren’t even eligible for a follow-up appointment to discuss DH’s gloomy SA results as we have a child already.

Good luck my lovely. Here’s hoping you get that sticky BFP very very soon. Xxx

Lopey - I’m in London so I’ve ended up plucking for one of the few clinic I’ve heard of that have a fairly good reputation without subjecting you to daily tests during the process and guaranteeing bankruptcy at the end of it.

In terms of choosing clinics, I’ve heard that the Fertility Friends website might help and that the HFEA publishes data on each clinic’s success rates...

I also have quite a few books on IVF (although admittedly I’m currently going through a phase of denial so haven’t read them all), some of which may well have clinic recommendations as appendices so if you PM me letting me know where you live I can look these up tonight if you like...

I can totally identify on the burying head in the sand and praying for a miracle front - it’s so very very difficult. Xxx

For those of you that have been to gp did you have good experiences? I'm worried I'll go and the gp will be dismissive as I already have DS and had a mc last year. Also as AF is due 17th should I book an appointment around then so if gp agrees to do bloods I'm in at the right time? I don't know why I'm so apprehensive about going maybe it's like admitting there's a problem.

LopeyLopez · 06/02/2018 07:03

Cariad, just seen your question....progesterone was not great but I don't know the actual number to compare, and the doctor didn't give me a print out of the results (I asked but it was a faff to do with reception or something or other and I never managed it. And when I saw the doctor again more recently together with dh, the computers at the surgery were down, so...,!) Doctor was quite dismissive of it though...said these things vary so much month to month and that another time it could be higher. I would still like to know what it was though. No doubt the clinic will do another test anyway. I think it is just me getting older....😞

Thanks cat and cariad. Well, af arrived right on time yesterday.

I hadn't thought about going private because part of me - stupidly, I'm starting to think - just keeps thinking it will still happen naturally, as there's nothing obvious wrong.... but now I am considering it. How do you go private anyway? Anyone any experiences? Do you just go online and find somewhere near by with a reasonable reputation? I imagine there are lots of places eager to accept me as the infertility industry is, unfortunately for us, such a lucrative business....

I think it would put my mind at rest if I had the scan (the one that was rejected on the NHS). Dh has been referred for his sperm analysis but again, long waiting time. Haven't found out when the appointment is yet. The first fertility clinic app with the NHS is meant to be within 8 weeks; it's just the follow up and actual treatment that should begin in 10-12 months. Would mean I could be in my 40s when I deliver my next baby (if ever).

Gah, why can't I just get pregnant???!!!! So frustrating. I am doing everything right. Yes cariad the unfairness of it all is getting to me too... stay strong ❤️

Hey @lopey fingers crossed there's still hope this month, great news on the spotting, amazing what a healthier diet can do. I second @cariad - could you go privately just for a scan or initial consultation to see what might be in store?

Sorry you're feeling down @cariad, i get the same feeling in my tww- did i do enough, is it ever going to happen etc. For me its probably the loss of control that is hardest. Hope you can distract yourself in the next week or so

Cariad2017 · 05/02/2018 22:38

P.s. Amazing work on the lack of spotting Lopey it definitely sounds as though your new diet is paying off. Fx that now you’ve sorted your LP, a BFP will be just around the corner...

That’s rubbish news on the length of the waiting list for a fertility referral. What was your progesterone result like (only asking due to the spotting)? Would you consider going private just for some further investigations in the hope they spot something simple that’s easy to fix?

Cariad2017 · 05/02/2018 22:33

Sending enormous hugs your way Lopey. Boo to temperature drops (clings onto the desperate hope that AF stays away and that the temp drop is caused by implantation instead)...

I’ve been feeling pretty glum over the past few days (which is unusual considering I’m only 3dpo)... I think the reality of infertility is finally starting to hit home, as is the unfairness of it all...

LopeyLopez · 05/02/2018 18:33

Oh and all the best peanut; I completely understand about giving this a break for a couple of months. The highs and lows are really starting to pull on my heart strings.... too much hope and then disappointment to take. I wish you well, have a good rest and hope to see you back here for support in the future. Xxx

LopeyLopez · 05/02/2018 06:56

Think I'm out....big temp dip below the cover line this morning and af is due today....am usually right on cue (I suppose that's something).

This month I have had no spotting whatsoever which is good for me....surely suggests healthier hormones...? I had been having up to four days of spotting which with a luteal phase of 12 days anyway didn't feel great. I have massively improved my diet the last month to include lots more fruit, vegetables and seeds and maybe it's paying off...or possibly too soon to tell.

We have been referred to the fertility clinic but the waiting time is likely to be 10-12 months! 😞

Onto cycle 13....hopefully lucky for me! 🤞

Good luck to all those still hoping for a Feb bfp xxx

Sorry to hear you need to take a break @peanut and hope this gives you what you need - i can totally empathise with the feeling of not being in control.

I'm 5dpo today, with a bit more cm than usual but otherwise feeling decidedly normal. I'm on holiday in the Aussie sunshine so that's keeping me distracted this week. And I'm drinking wine as if I'm not upduffed so as not to jinx myself..

MiniMinions · 04/02/2018 11:28

I also have come out with a proper cold today ughhh

Cariad2017 · 04/02/2018 08:57

Sorry Peanut -meant to write recommenced rather than recommended! 😂

sarahhh1984 · 04/02/2018 08:25

Good plan @SecondGo! Wink

I seem to be developing a sore throat out of nowhere. Sad Just thankful I’m still on AF so feeling ill won’t interfere with baby making! May need a medicinal tot of something later. And perhaps leave DH with DD while I have a bath!

SecondGo · 04/02/2018 07:53

Not right now obviously, bit early in the day Smile

SecondGo · 04/02/2018 07:52

Oh I posted a message and it didn't work! Hello to Sarah and mini! Hopefully we can stop each other going mad? I definitely need some help with that...

And I just read about alcohol helping present lzheimers. I don't really drink but will have to start now. Good timing!

Cariad2017 · 04/02/2018 07:23

Peanut - Sorry you’re having such a tough time. I got beyond my first EDD before conceiving DS and it was very very tough - I was a complete mess. I definitely think having a break for a few months will do you the world of good. Here’s hoping that once recommended, the remainder of your ttc journey is short and sweet. Xxx

RhiBee29 · 04/02/2018 07:18

Enjoy your break @Peanut1980 best of luck x

Peanut1980 · 04/02/2018 00:32

So I’ve decided to take some time out and have quickly hopped back on the contraceptive pill. Not an easy decision. I haven’t been on the pill for so long. I just feel like I need two months time out to stop thinking about falling pregnant and then hopefully after two months be back in the game. I know it’s crazy to go on the pill when I can’t fall pregnant anyway at the mo but I just want to try and take control of the situation for a bit. Had I not of miscarried I would have been due next month 💔 I have also read that sometimes it can help fertility. Who knows! So I’m going to come off this group for a bit.

I wish everyone the best of luck and all the strength with continuing ttc. Hugs and kisses.

Xxxxxx

A negative for me - so glass of wine it is!

CoconutGal · 02/02/2018 23:08

Hopping on here! Mid way through moving so it's been chaos & I had a period that was an entire month & 1 week late so this is now day cycle day 8 for me. AF finished yesterday.

Cycle: 14
Age: 26
AF due: 24th feb.

I'm not temping or using ovulation sticks. It's kind of taking a bit of a back seat at the moment because we are crazy busy with the new house. However I just have this overwhelming feeling that this is our year. At least it better be because last year wasn't! 😂

LopeyLopez · 02/02/2018 22:53

Hi cariad, hi mini.... yeah, an October baby would be dreamy....!

Currently 10 dpo but don't feel any different than usual so not hopeful. Really trying to expect af and not pregnancy to avoid the inevitable disappointment...

I won't test but will wait for af, as usual....in any case I will know soon enough; next three days!

Good luck all xxx
