Thread numero four-o.

A safe place for those of you who have been trying to conceive for 6+ months and even yams aren’t helping. Come and have a good ol’ bitch and a moan without judgement.

The Yam Commandments are as follows;

  • Thou shall not arrive one day and post BFP next day
  • Thou shall not give advice to others when TTC for one month only
  • Thou shall not participate in one-up-manship and realise TTC is shit for everyone in different ways
  • Thou shall allow posters to be fucked off with the world and everything in it at regular points in the month
  • Thou shall not be offended by strong language
  • Thou shall not tell everyone to eat yams
  • Thou shall accept being called a muppet for testing at 7dpo at 9pm at night

And most importantly...

  • Thou shall not symptom spot during the two week wait and must be prepared for a telling off if they do so.

Welcome and welcome. We’re all very nice and friendly despite being horrible bitter old cows ☺️

Oh crap that posted twice. Sorry

It's a good thing it's St Peter at the pearly gates and not a GP receptionist - otherwise no one would get into heaven! (Obv with total respect, I'd hate to do their job 🤪)

Just been looking through my various test results in advance of my appointment on Wednesday morning and am now wondering if my TSH (thyroid hormone) levels are a bit too high. According to a test I had back in July the level was 2.3, which is very much in the normal range, but I have read stuff online which suggests that for ttc, the level should be between 1 and 2. I only picked up a copy of that result last Friday; when I had the actual test I just relied on the GP saying the results were normal and no action required. Great. Why do I feel like I have to second-guess literally everything?!

In terms of progesterone results, mine was 18. Everyone on here seems to say over 30 is required for ovulation, and I specifically queried this with my GP who says it varies from place to place and 18 is not a concern. I’ve always been a bit unconvinced about that tbh.

I’ll actually be pretty pissed off if my GP (two different ones at the same surgery) are wrong on any of this, as if so, I’ll have wasted months thanks to them, despite thinking it’s an issue myself.

@QuietTime Thanks for asking x Day frickin 61!!! Started Agnus Castus a week or so ago.... still no AF but now I'm tired and nauseous. Brilliant. 😒

WonkyDonk87 · 29/01/2018 18:46

@Bubblegum89 Definitely not petty - it's not like you're refusing to be happy for your sister. Just that you have your own emotional stuff that's independent. Two separate things. We may be all bitter and frustrated at ourselves but we haven't lost all humanity Grin

DoAsDreamersDo · 29/01/2018 17:10

Bubble you’re definitely not being petty. It’s difficult enough TTC without being made to feel as though you shouldn’t feel sad about it because it’s getting in the way of your sisters “big moment”. I think my mum would be the same (my sister is currently pregnant) but she doesn’t know we’re TTC.

Bubblegum89 · 29/01/2018 16:14

Rhibee no I don’t think so. She knows how much I want a child with my OH (DD isn’t his) and I purposely didn’t talk to her about it as I didn’t want to overshadow my sister but I write a blog about it and my mum saw it and instead of reading how upset I was feeling, she told me to stop writing about it because it was making them all look bad and it was unfair of me to talk about it when my sister is pregnant. I think that a pregnant daughter is just more interesting than one that can’t get pregnant. There’s no excitement or anything to gain from a non-pregnant child especially when you have one that’s ready to pop and give you a shiny new grandchild

I'm knackered by that point @LovePinaColada and things are ahem drying up shall we say.

@Bubblegum89 is it a case that your Mum is burying her head in the sand or thinking because you already have a child there's not really an issue? Lots of people don't know about or understand secondary infertility which is so frustrating!

Bubblegum89 · 29/01/2018 15:12

Should I be pissed off that my mum never asks me how things are going? She knows we are ttc and struggling and that we’re with a fertility clinic etc. My sister is hugely pregnant and my mum is forever tagging her in stuff on fb about babies and dads that gag changing nappies and all that. She told me not long ago that I need to stop complaining about ttc as it makes them all feel bad and is overshadowing my sister’s “time”. So since then, I haven’t mentioned anything to them but she never asks anyway. She’s my mum and you’d think out of everyone, she would care. My OH’s mum asks how things are going all the time and she heard that I’d had a bit of a wobble last week and text me to say to give her a call etc if I ever want to have a chat and she knows when my tests are and all that, because she is genuinely interested in how things are going for us. It’s nice that she cares but I feel a bit resentful towards my mum for not seeming to care at all. It’s not a case of she thinks I don’t want to talk about it because she has read my blog and knows I am happy to talk about it but even if wasn’t too keen, surely just asking how we are now and again wouldn’t go amiss? I’m having a really hard time at the minute and not once does she asks how my appointments have gone or when my tests are or anything. Am I just being petty?

I think it's literally a why not/last chance/lets be doubley sure DTD! 😂 @RhiBee29

RhiBee29 · 29/01/2018 12:45

Just catching up from the weekend, sorry to hear so many fellow yammers struggling Thanks

CD9 here, going to try a 4hr hold and do an opk when I get in from work. Expecting to ovulate between CD13-15.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the last dtd on SMEP?

DoAsDreamersDo · 29/01/2018 11:27

And now it looks as though AF has arrived early! Not sure how I feel about that! If I now have a shorter cycle then that's quite good, but it also means I've only had a short luteal phase (of a week!!) Unless I ovulated a few days earlier than I thought I did and all my symptoms were wrong! Oh I have no idea anymore. All I know is that I'm not pregnant (again).

nothingbutwhitetests · 29/01/2018 10:50

That sounds frustrating @Chooklass but hope the diagnosis makes the next stages a bit smoother for you.
Got my referral to the breast clinic on Wednesday which is really quick (I love the NHS). Had a couple of cysts before so not feeling too nervous (although it is uncomfortable). Managed to stay out of bed until a decent time yesterday, had some nice food watched a film and tried not to think about too much!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/01/2018 09:33

Cd3 today and horrific AF cramps and heavy bleeding. I have my doctors appointment tomorrow and blood test slot booked in (the Dr hasn't even agreed to give me any yet but blood test slots around here are like gold dust!)

Bubblegum89 · 29/01/2018 09:18

Pibbee my hycosy is on 7th. I’m not looking forward to it at all but I’m hoping they find something. It says a lot when you’re just desperate for them to find something wrong lol at least then I will know why I can’t get pregnant and what can be done instead of being stuck in this limbo. If it makes you fee any better, pre-AF spotting wouldn’t be an indicator of blocked tubes or scarring. The opposite is true for uterine scarring as it more often than not stops any bleeding at all. Wishing you lots of luck, hope you get some answers!

June thank you. I knew it would be a bfn though. At least now I know 100%!

P.S. chook - forgot to say sorry about AF and to admire your patient attitude on appointments :) I'll try to follow your example...fx it comes through soon

DoAsDreamersDo · 29/01/2018 09:07

Quiet I probably should have told them all that we have been trying for a while, but I felt a bit awkward so didn't really say anything. It just annoys me when my friend who does know gives me a look every time I order a glass of wine, or don't, so I don't think I could cope with all of them giving me that look each month as a reminder that I'm still not pregnant!

DoAsDreamersDo · 29/01/2018 09:05

Well I was full of hope this cycle. But now my RHR has fallen, which is typical just before AF arrives, and I'm due on towards the end of this week. Also, my boobs have stopped hurting, and they've been killing me all weekend.

QuietTime · 29/01/2018 09:02

Ugh wonky what a ball-ache - how long has this cycle been now?

dreamers I'm so sorry you're feeling like that - and that you can't get more support from your friends. Do you reckon you'd tell any of the others about TTC? I haven't told my friends yet, but think I'm more inclined to discuss it these days if kids came up (luckily not many of my closest friends have them, so they don't come up often)

milk good luck with speaking to the doctor about the thyroid test - hopefully it's either nothing to worry about or something that can be addressed and get you closer to your BFP

rubber good luck on the test results - and definitely felt the same when I was waiting for mine :)

Sorry about the bfn and opk tests bubble and biscay

This spotting malarkey seems quite common... I also have spotting before at, but it's basically the whole luteal phase! This cycle I spotted on dpo 2, 4,5,6 and 8,9,10. 9 and 10 were almost light periods with red and clots. I always find it difficult to know whether to count the last few days as day 1, or not because often it stops for a day or two before af comes properly.... when I've counted it it messes up my charts a lot, and says that every other cycle is about 3 days long with no ovulation.....

My progesterone last cycle was 26 so borderline. Should get my results from this cycle today. It's weird but I'm hoping it's worse - because then there's actually a problem to be treated. Does that make any sense?

Chooklass · 28/01/2018 22:26

@Pibbee I'm interested to know how your appt goes - I also spot before AF (from about 5dpo) and have had 'normal' day 21 bloods but they didn't give me a figure. Awaiting fertility appointment.

Pibbee · 28/01/2018 20:44

LH surge doesn’t last 12 hours for everyone - it can be considerably shorter or longer. But as soon as the second line on my OPKs starts to get darker, I tend to do 3 or 4 a day so I don’t miss it....I even do them at work! I’ve caught the surge every time....not that it has done me any good at all so far!

@Sooz I’m so sorry to hear you are feeling so down. Glad DH is back now.

Hi @Chook, welcome!

@Bubblegum, when is your hycosy appt again? I have my first fertility clinic appt Wednesday morning and I am actually starting to cack myself now that there is something really wrong with me. I have got the usually pre-AF spotting, it’s been going on for a few days now. A couple of gps have told me this is normal but I’m unconvinced. I think I either have low progesterone (and actually, my day 21 results were in the normal range for progesterone, but the lower end of normal), or my tubes/lining are fucked by scarring. Fuck fuck fuck
