Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Hi all! Glad to see everyone's still positive today Smile

Been feeling a bit of tightness in the chest today, almost like a need to cough but no actual cough there. Had a look online but not finding much other than chest pain when actually pregnant.

Has anyone else had something similar to this?
All my other symptoms have been fairly normal, like breast tenderness, headache, backache.

Thanks guys!

Hey @LilyRose202,

I assumed it was my withdrawal bleed, seemed to be a small bleed each day, the odd day was heavier. Took my last pill on 2nd dec and my first day that I think the withdrawal bleed started was 3rd jan! That day I was in absolute agony, made it out of bed only to shower & crawled back in with a hot water bottle. I think it lasted 4 days.
We’d love to fall now, got our girls name set but struggling with agreeing on a boys name lol!
Yes I’m the same, never wanted Aunt Flo so bad haha!

@Genie4808 we’re here! Still learning with the abbreviations too! X

LilyRose202 · 13/01/2021 19:16

Hey there,
@31TTC How long after coming off the pill did you get your withdrawal bleed? How long did it last?
No period has arrived today but I have pain in my lower right abdomen which is really sore. I persevered and tried to do some exercise this evening and have been feeling so nauseous ever since. Constantly drinking water incase I overdid it on the workout but dizziness doesn't normally last this long 🥴. I've never wanted a period so badly so that I can track this. We're not even TTC at the moment, just trying to get my body ready for when we try in a few months. Tbh at this stage though I would still be delighted if it did happen. I work in a school too, though at home just now teaching online. More stressful than in the classroom!!

On a positive note, we have our baby names at the ready (and have done since about 6 months after we met) 😂. Has anyone else thought of names? 😊 xxx

LilyRose202 · 13/01/2021 13:27

Hi @Genie4808
This thread is still going. Welcome!

Not sure what half of them mean. I just say it as it is. 😂. I know AF is anti-flow meaning period and TTC means trying to conceive. If you google the others it should say but I wouldn't worry about it. Xxx

Genie4808 · 13/01/2021 11:13

Can anyone tell me what all the acronyms mean please? I'm new here today and totally confused by them. AF? BFP? DTD? TTC? Thanks I'd really appreciate it!

Genie4808 · 13/01/2021 11:09

hi there everyone-no one seems to have posted in this thread since 2019 and I just found it...is it still active here and can I comment? Thanks all x

31TTC · 13/01/2021 06:04

Morning!!!
Ahh glad your headaches have eased up @LilyRose202 gives me hope haha! I too did wonder if they are work related as I’m in work still everyday, as I work in a primary school.
I never had a single period on Cerelle, the whole 7 years! That was lovely to be honest lol but made me dread the withdrawal bleed which was horrible, and makes me dread AF coming. Although at least then I can track more!
Keep us posted about whether you have this period 🤣

Xxxx

LilyRose202 · 12/01/2021 23:35

Hi ladies,
Hope your symptoms lesson and disappear soon. To give you a bit of hope, I have not had one of those killer headaches for at least 5 days now, only minor headaches which come and go and are probably stress related due to work and lockdown. No bleeding yet but I'll give you a laugh...I downloaded an app called Get Baby (about 2 weeks ago) and it asked me to enter the date of my last period. When I started cerelle I had a period for 4 months constantly and then haven't had one since in the last 3 years. I entered the date my last period finished and it reads that my period is 1091 days late 😂. To top that off, yesterday I randomly got a notification to say expect your period in 2 days time. How random 😂😂. Not sure how they calculated that one. I'll be amazed if it comes tomorrow, though I have had cramping on and off like many of you have experienced too so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀. I'll keep you posted. Xx

31TTC · 12/01/2021 21:52

Oh @RM9827 it’s crazy how we are all having similar symptoms, since what I think was my withdrawal bleed has finished, I’ve been soooooo emotional, crying at the stupidest things, headaches have been a joke like @LilyRose202 said, felt physically sick yesterday because of one.
Friend who hasn’t long had her 2nd baby asked me today if I were pregnant due to my symptoms but don’t know.
I don’t want to put pressure on us to do lots of tests etc and we’re not fully tracking, would love it all to just happen but who knows!
Glad to see we’re all together in this journey ladies Smile xxxx

RM9827 · 12/01/2021 21:21

Hi all,
Been reading through this thread for the past week or so as was concerned with some of the symptoms after coming off Cerelle, but this thread has eased my mind a bit.

@31TTC It sounds like your symptoms are very similar to mine. I came off Cerelle Dec 14th and have had very sore breasts/nipples since. Sometimes they'll be fine and may be a little sensitive if I knock them (which is hard to do for me Grin) and other times they will just feel heavy and ache.
I've also had slight stomach cramping and backache like many others, so seems to be a common theme with some symptoms.

Had some spotting for a few days after stopping but nothing since. Really really hoping AF comes soon, as Im sick to the teeth of these symptoms! Fingers crossed Halo

LilyRose202 · 05/01/2021 00:22

Hey @Louisa1986
I'm certainly no expert but my friend just told me that she conceived 6 weeks after coming off the pill with a period just a week after coming off. It seems to me there's no definite pattern and relaxing and not tracking every ovulation date etc is best otherwise we just stress ourselves over it. I would keep trying and take a test in a few weeks.

Am I right in saying that many of the side effects of coming off the pill are similar to pregnancy? I have been constantly peeing, terrible headaches which I can't take any more, cramps and I fainted this morning. I really hope this doesn't last long. Thank God for lockdown round 2 so I don't have to face going into work like this 😥.

Louisa1986 · 04/01/2021 22:49

Hi Everyone

I've been following this thread for a while trying to work out if there's a pattern for coming off Cerelle. I have a 13 year old, who was conceived within a month of stopping Jasmine. I then went onto Microgynon and eventually Rigevidon and then Cerelle. October 2016 I stopped taking Cerelle, within a month I was pregnant. Unfortunately not a viable pregnancy. Been on it since.
Took my last pill 18th November. Had back ache, cramps, painfully sore boobs, heat flushes, nausea. Done a test Christmas Day - BFN.
No withdrawal bleed, not even a spot, but the nausea persists and I just want to know if I'm expecting AF or a little bundle of joy.
Reading some of you ladies with 80 days is making me think I'm being too eager but to conceive twice within a month of stopping, I kinda thought it'd happen again. I'm 34 but the women in my family have a history of early menopause (my aunt at just 36) so I'm super paranoid.

31TTC · 03/01/2021 13:28

So glad to see I’m not alone in my symptoms after coming off Cerelle on 4th Dec 2020, sore nipples, and stomach cramps, think my withdrawal bleed has begun today, hoping after this I’ll start to feel a little better!

LilyRose202 · 31/12/2020 17:58

Hi,
I'm the same @Em201. Read every post just about and it's equally fascinating and frustrating that everyone's body reacts so differently.
I started Cerelle around August 2017 after inadvertantly falling pregnant at the start of a new relationship. I miscarried at about 8 weeks which was a mixture of emotions really. I wasn't ready yet so in a way I see it as everything happens for a reason. Cerelle was the first and only contraceptive method I have used and for the first 4 months I bled every day. It was brutal! I spoke to the dr after 3 months but she told me to persevere. A month later the bleeding finally stopped and in the last 3 years I have not had a period, only spotting at complete random last August (lasted about 3 days). 3 years, 4 months later and a new partner who I'm engaged to, I have decided to come off the pill to prepare my body in advance of starting a family. My last pill was on 27th December 20. 4 days on and no symptoms yet but still early days.
We are due to get married in July 21 so not looking to fall pregnant yet and after reading the posts, it seems like it could take a while anyway 😂. We would love to fall pregnant just before or just after our wedding but I have a few worries...
1.) Falling pregnant prior to the wedding and miscarrying again around the time of our wedding
2.) Not falling pregnant and having a terrible period on my wedding day
3.) Not getting pregnant at all before August. Previously wanted to start trying after our wedding but we are both so keen for children, this year has made us realise that life is too short and I am bridesmaid at my friend's wedding in May 22. So, doing the maths, we have a short window to work with.
I know that what will be will be but not sure how much you can plan for this. Any advice or opinions on all of the above would be fab!
Really pleased to read that most of you have now conceived. All the best to you 😁.

Hey Guys,

Original poster here 👋🏻 ‘AD23’ but unfortunately had to change accounts as I forgot my password 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Just thought I would swing by and give you all an update... After coming off my pill in December (2017) to give my body a chance to get back to normal and have a couple periods... We started trying in May (2018) and on our second month we fell pregnant 🤰🏻 I tested and got my positive on July 6th, so fell very quickly!! 🥰

We now have a gorgeous 19 month old little boy called Frank! (Born 17th March 2019) 💙 We are getting married Sept 21 and are planning on having our second then soon after.... I’ll come back and update you on how things go once I’m back of Cerelle again 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ My body is terrible after having little man, this pill is hell.... I’ve gone from having two years on it with nothing before having him, to going back on it and spotting every other week! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Good luck gorgeous ladies, let me know how you all get on!!

Sending lots of baby dust your way 🥰🤞🏻😘

Em201 · 12/11/2020 18:11

Hey

Is this thread still going?

Would love to hear how people are getting on having read every page! I recently came off of Cerelle (end of October) and waiting for my AF to arrive! 🤞🏼

RosaBaby2 · 24/10/2020 14:25

Are people still posting here?

I've come off Cerelle about a week ago now, been taking it for 2 years. Also still breast feeding my 2.5 year old here and there - anyone similar? Hoping that doesn't hinder us TTC, this is the first time I have actually planned to have a baby so it's all very new (I have 13yo and 2.5yo)

Good luck everyone!
