Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Hey all!
Been reading this thread for some time now so thought I’d give my experience coming off Cerelle. I stopped taking the pill on Jan 17, AF arrived 17th Feb. I came off to start tracking my cycle and get the pill out my system as my partner and I wanted to start our TTC journey later on this year. AF is now 5 days late, I have been feeling like I’m going to come on but no blood, did a test this morning and got a BFP. Been and bought the digital clear blue and that says 2-3 weeks. I have been using Flo and Premom app to track my fertility and avoided DTD in those times but I obviously ovulated early/late. I’m feeling very overwhelmed and somewhat upset as I didn’t plan on it happening so soon.

Hey there!
How are we all? Any updates?

My fiancé and I have started TTC this month. I used ovulation tests and TTC on one low fertility day, one high fertility day, my 2 peak fertility days and then the day after as well - yes, we have been v busy! Haha. That was all between 6 and 11 days ago. It's too early to test yet apparently so (very impatiently) awaiting this Sunday when AF is due. I'm trying to just remain calm and not be disappointed if it's negative as I know we have plenty of time on our side but my god, my ovaries have been sore for almost a week now. Cramping and twinges on and off. It started on the right side and a couple of days later moved to the left and has been ongoing ever since. I'm also urinating like it's going out of fashion too. Could these be signs? Frequent toilet trips apparently happens a good few weeks in but when I was pregnant before (before sadly MC) I was at the toilet all the time and it was early days. I don't want to get my hopes up but also don't want there to be a problem (something else going on unrelated to conception) as I don't normally get these pains after ovulation and over a week before AF. Any ideas?
Xxx

Hi all,

Thought I would join this conversation as it's really helped me in making some decisions about coming off the pill.

I've been on Cerelle for about 2/3 year after being on other types beforehand.

I am getting married in September so had been planning to come off the pill around then but reading some of your experiences of getting your cycle back to 'normal', I'm feeling that 6 months before my wedding (which would be now) would be a good time to come off and try and establish my cycle again.

I've previously used Natural Cycles to track my periods but whilst using other forms of contraception so I'm planning to do this again so that hopefully when it comes to TTC it will be a bit more accurate with my ovulation.

I'm so excited - this will be our first time TTC so I feel really excited to share it. My last pill will be this Sunday (21st March).

I've had no periods throughout my Cerelle journey up until recently when I've had irregular spotting/bleeds (whic have been investigated by my GP to no avail) - they think it might just be hormonal changes as I've lost a bit of weight recently.

Anyway - sorry to ramble but it feels good to hear from people in a similar position and I really just wanted to post to say thank you for all of your comments and advice! :)

Hello! Hope you don't mind me joining in :) just joined mumsnet as today is my first day off cerelle, but I read this this thread when doing research! We've been planning to TTC once I turned 30 (which was last month) but were originally going to wait until May to TTC so that the baby wouldn't be born in Dec or Jan Grin, but we were both incredibly impatient and decided we couldn't wait any longer! Going to give myself two and half weeks to get used to not being on some form of pill for 12 years! Then as soon as April hits we're full on TTC!

Sorry for the long intro ha! But this thread has really helped me prepare for what to expect coming off.

3rd cycle off cerelle

Previous cycles were 25 and 22 days. Currently CD28. I used OPK’s around the time that I had positives last month and nothing. Then I decided they were stressing me out and chucked them out so not sure whether I ovulated this month.

So not sure if getting to CD28 is because of pregnancy, late period or because I skipped ovulation this month.

Trying to hold out a few more days before testing in case AF is late and it’s still my body adjusting

Crazybabylady14 · 11/03/2021 18:24

Thank you @LilyRose202 I've booked a private early scan for a few weeks time so should be able to (hopefully) see a heartbeat. I'm tentatively excited but the prospect of waiting for first NHS scan is giving me a touch of anxiety.

Will keep you all updated, in the meantime already got the delights of early preg - VERY sore boobs and struggling to erm...go... tmi info I know 😂

LilyRose202 · 11/03/2021 13:55

@Crazybabylady14 Ahhh! That's amazing! Huge congratulations! 😁😁
Hope you're well and best of luck with this amazing adventure ahead. Keep us posted with how you're getting on. So much hope for us all that it happened so quickly for you 😊 xxx

Crazybabylady14 · 11/03/2021 13:34

Hi @LilyRose202 I did and then again and again...all BFP! Excited and slightly in shock still! Planned but in my head I had accepted that it might take some time due to stopping pill and having no idea what cycle would be doing and my age being against us for anything happening quickly.

Fingers crossed for all the other ladies on here xx

BmC55x · 11/03/2021 13:20

@MrsB2206 we have similar dates.Stopped around the 11th of January and had my first perild about a week ago.
Fingers cross it will be regular now.Smile

LilyRose202 · 11/03/2021 13:18

Hi everyone,
How are we all?
@31TTC I feel exactly the same. So shocked at how regular AF has been (so far!). How have your LH levels been? Has it appeared as high or peak ovulation yet on your tests? Great news about the buyer for your flat too! Hope it all comes together for you 😊
@taytay2020 Hi there! You're right, no info on line and this thread has been amazing! Good to hear so far so good. It can be really difficult to know exactly what is a withdrawal bleed or AF but for ovulation I would highly recommend the clear blue ovulation kits. Quite pricey but they are easy to use and clear.
@crazybabylady14 Have you tested again since? Fingers are crossed for you!
@MrsB2206 Welcome! That's great news and seems quite normal as well. I think most of us have had first period within 3 months or so of coming off so that's excellent. Enjoy tracking but try not get too obsessed with it. I have to keep reminding myself not to as it's hard 🙈.

Update here: AF came for 2nd time a couple of weeks ago at the expected time. I should be ovulating soon. Checked today but it says 'low' which I expected tbh. We are ready for TTC (though still anxious about the wedding situation coming up). I had a very high libido when AF first came in January/start of Feb but this month I'm feeling nothing. Complete opposite! So typical! 😅 Still doing the deed but getting very little pleasure from it. Hopefully a baby instead! Haha xxxx

MrsB2206 · 11/03/2021 12:01

Hi all. Came of cerelle mid jan and finally have 1st proper period today ! Hoping this will be the start of my proper cycle. Can finally start using my tracker app now! X

Crazybabylady14 · 05/03/2021 18:03

Came off cerrazette first week of January, few days later had a small bleed for a few days, 6th of February what I think was first normal period and then having a bit of a eeeeek is it or isn't this afternoon as thought what the hell, AF due tomorrow but on an early work shift.... if you squint maybe 😬

Coming off Cerelle
taytay2020 · 05/03/2021 17:56

I love that this thread exists, I feel like there's no info on google about what to expect! So I thought I'd add my own experience here :)

I stopped taking the mini pill (I had Cerazette usually) in mid-January. I think I ovulated about a week later, then I had every symptom I could think of for the next two weeks (tiredness, sore boobs, insomnia, headaches, etc) so I was symptom-spotting like crazy! Then I had my first bleed (so, 3 weeks after stopping the pill) and it was the heaviest I can ever remember having but stopped after about 4 days.

I'm not sure yet how long my natural cycle is but I think I probably ovulated a couple of weeks ago. All seems normal.

31TTC · 05/03/2021 06:01

Ah that’s great news @glow92, keeping everything crossed for you! Keep us updated!
@mamadreamers welcome! Oh gosh a little sad to hear you’re a year off & struggling. I am well aware it can take that long but it must be so disheartening. Such a waiting game isn’t it!
@Genie4808 that’s great! Afraid I don’t know any to suggest, sorry! Perhaps when you find one you can recommend it to us please.

So AF arrived yesterday & im still shocked at how regular I am, 3rd visit & so far they’ve all been at same time in the month. I really thought it would be hit & miss! Hoping my LH levels are better this month🤞🏼
We’ve found a buyer for our flat & now searching for our house so I know stresses like that can be a factor in this game so we’ll just see how it all goes but my poor OH is having concerns that it’s his fault we haven’t had a BFP, so I’m trying to reassure him it’s my body taking time to adjust to being off Cerelle.
Look after yourselves ladies xxxx

Genie4808 · 04/03/2021 21:59

Hi everyone. Well after coming of cerelle december I've finally hit good LH levels today so I think I'm about to ovulate. Can anyone recommend a good group when you're trying to conceive now? There's so many on here I don't know where to start or what to join!! Thanks all x

mamadreamers · 03/03/2021 19:41

@LilyRose202
Aw thank you! So we always try to focus on time of ovulation but have DTD intermittently throughout the month sometimes. We possibly could look at making more of a conscious effort to vary it though, to cover all bases!
I’ve read the same re 12 months, I definitely feel like it isn’t long when I read about some peoples TTC journeys, but still feels long as every cycle comes and goes if that makes sense. We just keep trying to remain positive every month!
Haven’t sought medical advice yet as I’ve only just turned 28 and felt like we would wait and keep trying the full 12 months first.
Xx

glow92 · 03/03/2021 19:34

Thank you both so much. Providing everything goes as it should, conception happened cycle 3 off Cerelle which I was on for 8 years... very surprised!

LilyRose202 · 03/03/2021 19:13

@31TTC Best of luck with it all! It will fall into place, I'm sure 🙂🤞

@glow92 Amazing news! Congratulations! 😁. Keep us posted 🤞

@mamadreamers Welcome! Sorry to hear it has taken so long to get pregnant. I take it you have tried at all times in the month, when you are ovulating and outwith this time, just incase? Last week I googled how long the average person takes to fall pregnant and how long for a 27 yo (my age) but it just said a high percentage fall pregnant in the first 12 months. Not helpful but I suppose everyone is different and maybe 12 months isn't really that long when it comes to these things. I would be like you though and feel every month is ages. Have you spoken to/seen a doctor?

Xxxx

mamadreamers · 03/03/2021 15:45

Hi ladies.

Thought I’d join, I’m 1 year off cerelle now after taking it for 13 years. Myself and husband started our TTC journey in may 2020 and still yet to fall pregnant.
The first 6-8 weeks my chart was all over the place, however very quickly got into a regular cycle - or so my natural cycles app tells me. Having not fallen pregnant yet but having the temps, OPKS & cervical mucus all line up is really disheartening and makes me think has cerelle had more of a lasting effect on me after taking it so long - who knows.
Just have to keep taking every month as it comes! I’m 9 dpo today and had a bfn this morning, hoping it’s still just early 🤞🏼
Good luck @glow92 keep us posted on how your lines progress ♥️ X

glow92 · 03/03/2021 06:54

Hi girls, just a little update from me - I actually got a faint positive at 9 (could have been 10) DPO on Monday! Very cautious right now and still testing for darker lines.... unsure if it was any of the new little things I tired this month or if I was just very lucky, but that's where I am right now! 💜.

31TTC · 02/03/2021 21:44

Hey ladies

@LilyRose202 i did the same as you by the sounds of it but it was low the whole time, partner thinks I brought dodgy tests but I don’t! We have lessened the amount we do the baby dance lol! Although sex drive is still up! I’d say I’m the same as you generally as AF came the same time on the 2nd cycle, waiting on the 3rd.
We’ve now sold the flat & searching for the right house, hoping it’ll all fall into place.
AF is due soon 🤞🏼
@glow92 I’m doing what Lily suggested. I don’t want to be tracking constantly but using it as a help. TTC most of the time lol!
Totally understand your reasons behind when to TTC LilyRose

LilyRose202 · 02/03/2021 17:26

Excuse all the typos 😂🙈. Hopefully you managed to make some sense of all of that. X

LilyRose202 · 02/03/2021 17:23

Hi everyone!
Hope you're all well. I've not posted in a while so thought I'd pop on, see how you all are and update you with my situation too.
@RM9827 I can't day I've been any more gassy if I'm honest but I can't certainly day the bowel movements have been more frequent (like 3 times a day!). It has eased off now but last week and the previous were ridiculous 😅. I have put it down to a change in diet and mainly taking supplements.
Did AF finally come?

@31TTC How often did you test? I tested my ovulation for about 5 or 6 days in a row as it can start later than the app suggests and also, the first couple of days seem to appear as low fertility. I only got 2 days of high fertility and 2 days registering as my peak. Sperm can last for 5 days in the body though so that lengthens the period in which you can get pregnant. 🙂🤞
Good luck with getting a house! And I completely agree. Everything happens for a reason.

@glow92 I can't be of any help I'm afraid. I haven't got my head round what a luteal phase is yet 😂. Don't worry to much about how many days. If you're TTC now then just go for it at any point in the month and then make your ovulation time an extra priority.

I'm now on cycle 2 since coming off Cerelle at the end of December. AF appeared exactly 28 days after the first period and seems to be slightly lighter this time round. Cramps were just as awful initially but have calmed down significantly. I think we might be TTC mod March when I'm next due to ovulate. I'm excited but time has come round so quickly that I'm starting to freak out about it. I'm a mega worrier and after miscarrying before (years ago) I'm terrified it will happen again. Due to get married mid July and the thought of being ill or bleeding out on my wedding day scares me so much. I'm bridesmaid at my friend's wedding next May so that's why we want to try now, ahead of being heavily pregnant at either of our weddings. Any advice would be warmly welcome ❤️

Take care ladies xxxx

glow92 · 25/02/2021 10:53

Hi all, after last months 25 day cycle (Ov day 17) I'm now cycle day 28 having not ovulation till day 23! Big difference in length, I did try some new supplements but I'm putting it down mostly to still settling from being on the pill.

Now 5DPO and just hoping for a longer luteal phase than the 8 days I got last month.

Hope you're all doing well 💜.

31TTC · 25/02/2021 06:03

Hey ladies

@RM9827 I certainly seem to have been gassy the last few days but didn’t even think it could be connected to all of this! Lol! Perhaps it is.

I decided I would test for ovulation to see how accurate the app was etc & I didn’t seem to ovulate at all according to my tests. I guess I must have but my LH levels didn’t peak at all whilst I was testing. Guess my body is still adjusting which is fine, I was just intrigued to see if it all worked!
Trying not to be in a hurry for it all to happen as we may well be buying our first house together soon (together in his flat at the moment!) so I know that’s huge enough stress without adding pregnancy. Trying to look at it as “things happen at the right time” which I believe having met my partner “at the right time!”

Anyway enough of my rambling! Hope you’re all well xxxxxx
