Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Thank you RLI1105. We had a long chat last night and as it's not confirmed and it's a 50:50 chance it's an issue just going to carry on trying during this ovulation. But get tested as soon as possible so we know what we are facing.

It seems as soon as I'm in my ovulating phase everything else has gone wrong. I found myself with the service I run having no staff to work this weekend and I was faced with the potential of 10 hours a day of shifts uncovered and a big crisis in the other service I run. I felt like this was a sign that I wasn't meant to TTC. (Wanted a relaxing weekend) at least next month I'm on annual leave during ovulation time Smile

BabyNo2 I sympathise I know how awful coming off it can make you feel whilst waiting for your period. I am dreading my next period.

Good luck everyone who is trying xx

Haldanegirl1202 · 16/02/2019 23:29

@BabyNo2FX
I've been off cerelle since the 28th of December and we weren't really trying but we weren't not trying if that makes sense! It was more of if it happens it happens kinda thing!

RLI1105 · 16/02/2019 22:17

I got my period yesterday!
I'm feeling quite relieved although so
far it has been particularly painful and crampy! Just to recap.... I took my last Cerelle on the 30th December, had my withdrawal
Bleed on 15th January and now have had my first period 15th February.
Between my withdrawal bleed and period there wasn't a clear cut time I thought I was ovulating.... I'm going to monitor BBT and start doing OpK tests too next month so I can get a better idea of ovulation

RLI1105 · 16/02/2019 22:12

@CuriousC32
I just read your last post and I'm really sorry for your situation. Sad
I guess you just need to decide between the two of you what feels right. I guess it boils down to whether you want to know all the facts or just try and see what happens.
One thing to remember though is how amazing modern medicine is now and all the options that are now available that weren't in the past!
All my fingers are crossed for you! xxx

CuriousC32 · 16/02/2019 20:41

Congratulations Haldanegirl.

According to Ovia app I'm potentially ovulating and we have begun our TTC
journey.

I always knew there is a chance we might have issues because my partner had luekemia treatment when he was 3. But had put it to the back of my mind due to thinking that if it was an issue the doctors would of said something at the time to his mum and she would of told him this if It was the case.

Today however - his mum decided to tell him at 29 years old that yes the doctors at the time did say he may or may not have problems. So now it's flagged up all the worry. It's the not knowing that's the worst. I'm super emotional now as I just feel it's confirmed that it definitely a chance that it could be an issue. It doesn't help that I'm coming off an anti depressant too so little things are setting me off.

The only way we will really know is too book for a test at a private clinic. Have to wait a year on NHS. I can't get it off my mind.

I’m JREM - changed my name so I’m less likely to be spotted by people I know! I STILL haven’t had a period and it’s now been exactly a month today. Not pregnant and not feeling very hopeful :( congrats to @haldanegirl1202 I’m so pleased for you!

BabyNo2FX · 16/02/2019 12:29

Haldanegirl1202 · 13/02/2019 14:10

@CuriousC32 @eljohnson2018

So... cramps, spotting, headaches...
As I said I done a pregnancy test before and it was negative...
Last night decided to just use the last one so I could bin the box after a clear out etc.

I'm between 2-4 weeks pregnant... biggest shock ever, maybe hence why no period!
Then 3 more tests, all positive. Now just to wait for my first appointment on the 1st March
Thank you so much for helping me on here. It's majorly appreciated!

CuriousC32 · 12/02/2019 12:09

Thank you Babyno2FX. Good luck to you.

I thought the period/ bleeding had stopped but it is still happening today on and off Confused and this is day 8. I'm putting it down to my body being very confused after 8 years of pill!

BabyNo2FX · 12/02/2019 10:30

@curious... We are due to ovulate the same time xxxx good luck hun xxx

CuriousC32 · 12/02/2019 06:46

Well I've finally come off my period - longest one I've ever had!.

I'm hoping the side effects of this pill are finally out of my system and I will resume a normal cycle. For those new to the thread waiting for a period - I stopped my pill end of December and the period arrived 5th Feb.

The Ovia app says I am ovulating 16-21st so I am trying 13th to 23rd lol. I'm not sure I trust a mobile app to tell me when I'm ovulating but I don't want to try sticks to see when I am as I don't want to pressurise myself So Told my partner we are aiming for once a day 13th to 23rd.

good luck to everyone. Smile

BabyNo2FX · 11/02/2019 09:59

Hiiii newbie 💁🏻‍♀️... So glad i found this thread!!!
I came off cerelle on the 1st of Feb... I had a bleed around the same time every month whilst taking it... Sometimes lighter than my normal period sometimes much heavier. So my bleed came 2 days after stopping the pill which was round the time i was due on anyway.... It lasted 5 days. Is it possible to ovulate this month? I find it all so confusing. I have ovulation strips ready to test but with it not being a proper period im so confused as to how it all works 🥺😩🤷🏻‍♀️... I havent really had any withdrawal symptoms since coming off the pill other than desperately wanting to conceive ASAP hahaha. Thanks and baby dust to everyone ❤️ x x x

CuriousC32 · 11/02/2019 07:33

JREM - i am in the same boat as you know one to talk to. Apart from my partner who is fed up of all the gory details.

It is not something I want to discuss with my best friends.

CuriousC32 · 11/02/2019 07:31

Hello to the two newbies to this thread.

This thread has been a lifesaver whilst withdrawing from cerelle. As others have had the same symptoms as me.

I got my period on Tuesday last week, by Saturday it had pretty much gone (normal length my period would be) but by Sunday I started bleeding again and today it feels like day 2 of my period again (always worst day). I don't feel like this period is ever going to stop.

Has any one else had longer periods after stopping the pill?

I'm estimated to be ovulating 16-21st so was going to TTC from 14th to 23rd. But right now I'm worried il still be bleeding!

JREM · 08/02/2019 11:05

Hi @amster262 yes we seem exactly in the same boat, I came off a day before you!

I’ve settled down now but still no period and still no BFP! I have had a 3 day bleed about 2 weeks ago that I hoped was implantation but it seems not.

A lot of people have had their periods around a month of coming off so fingers crossed (or not, as would rather a BFP)!

Amster262 · 07/02/2019 20:27

Hello everyone,

I’ve been watching this thread for a while now and it’s so interesting to see how everyone has been coping with stopping Cerelle! Hope you don’t mind me tagging along!

I stopped on the 17th Jan after a year and I’ve had absolutely nothing in terms of period or spotting. I have however had the most painful boobs ever (don’t think they’ve ever been as sensitive!) and I’ve had some cramps, but nothing in the way of a bleed.

We are looking TTC #1 but want to wait until I’ve had a couple of cycles first. I literally cannot think about anything else and have never wanted a period so much in my life!! @JREM I think we are very much in the same boat!!

Any suggestions on how long I could be expected to wait? Anybody waited longer than a month or two? Fingers crossed something happens soon!! Good luck to those waiting/trying!

JREM · 07/02/2019 14:10

Also, if anyone is interested I could really use a buddy, I’m TTC #1 and I have nobody to talk to about the crap that comes with coming off this pill and TTC

JREM · 07/02/2019 14:06

Hi guys

Hope you don’t mind me joining this thread?

I came off cerelle on the 16th jan and only had a 3 day bleed (spotting not an actual bleed) since!

Have taken pregnancy test today but negative :(. Anyone had any good news?

CuriousC32 · 07/02/2019 13:35

Given that I haven't had a proper period for 8 years this is the most horrendous one I've ever had. Does anyone know if it's usual for the first period when you stop the pill to be heavier than normal? They never used to be this heavy 8 years ago....

eljohnson2018 · 05/02/2019 21:46

Haldanegirl1202 u will get there xxx please keep us posted x

Haldanegirl1202 · 05/02/2019 19:00

@CuriousC32 happy for you! Glad it's looking up. Still no sign of mine🙄
