How old were you when you first started ttc and how long did it take?

OP posts:
Jenala · 29/10/2017 12:53

DC1 - 25 first cycle
DC2 - 27 first cycle

We were very lucky. Both times we decided to start ttc around the time I was ovulating and got BFPs 2/3 weeks later. My close friend has just had a second round of unsuccessful ivf and has been ttc since I was pregnant with DC1. Feel absolutely awful for her.

Ginzella · 29/10/2017 12:49

DD- 1 cycle (age 32)

TTC DC2 and just had chemical pregnancy first cycle (age 34)

Clara101 · 29/10/2017 12:47

3 months at 38.
12 months at 41 (bf for first 9)
Been trying 27 months for no 3 (am now 44) to no avail!

eastlondoner · 29/10/2017 12:45

42 and it was a one shot wonder! I now have a 12 week old little beauty.

Oly5 · 29/10/2017 11:40

Pregnant within first two months aged 35, 37, 40. Very lucky.. but also swear by Clearblue digital monitor

fruityb · 29/10/2017 11:39

And I’m one of 5, my sister had 3 no problems. My periods were like clockwork and I could set my watch by ovulation. It just took forever.

fruityb · 29/10/2017 11:39

Came off the pill in October 2013, period back to normal within 8 weeks, fell pregnant December 2015. He took a bloody long time!

I was 31 when we started trying and 34 when he was born. Needless to say I think he’ll be an only child as the stress and strain of it was too much for me. I know people go through worse but I don’t think emotionally I could do it again.

whoopwhoop21 · 29/10/2017 11:36

DC1 - 31 conceived after dtd once.
DC2 - 34 conceived as above.

Not sure if relevant but my mother was the same for all 3 us. Plus my cycle is like clockwork.

Orangebird69 · 29/10/2017 11:32

ZippyCameBack · 29/10/2017 11:31

I started TTC my first at 20, he was born 8 years later , just before my 29th birthday.

EmmaLou3422 · 29/10/2017 11:29

27, four cycles. Currently 19 weeks pregnant

NC1990 · 29/10/2017 11:17

Started ttc age 25, conceived 10 months later age 26 (I have PCO).

confused123456 · 29/10/2017 11:07

I was 21 when I conceived, 22 when the baby was born. I came off the pill in July 2014, and conceived in November 2014, so 4 cycles.

weegiemum · 29/10/2017 11:05

Dd1 - 28 and first month
DS - 30 and second month
Dd2 - 32 and was actively not trying - had a mirena failure.

turquoise88 · 29/10/2017 11:04

Child 1 - 26, first month (had sex twice around ovulation)

Child 2 - second month, but had been on mini pill so that was still coming out of my system.

Beyond grateful for falling quickly and touch wood having healthy pregnancies. God knows not everyone has it so easy.

SleepFreeZone · 29/10/2017 11:01

At 37 we shagged once and I fell pregnant straight away. Had DS1. After that it was a total shit storm of multiple miscarriages until I had DS2 at 40. Since then I've had another pregnancy loss so I suspect I'm done.

voxnihili · 29/10/2017 11:00

33 - almost 2 and a half years and no joy yet. In that time I've had one mc, after about 22 months. The month I conceived was the first time I'd used OPKs and was a one hit wonder on the day I got a positive.

ChoudeBruxelles · 29/10/2017 10:59

Started about 28 and had ds when I was 31.

HateHomework · 29/10/2017 10:57

35, two years and only after IVF

Owlpatrol · 29/10/2017 10:55

29 still trying for 1st 11 months down the line...sigh

reetgood · 29/10/2017 10:19

36 when we said let’s stop using contraception and see what happens. I wasn’t paying close attention but I suspect I had a very very early miscarriage (at the time I thought it was a late and painful period). Started to track cycle so could be a bit more deliberate about it. I know exactly when we conceived. Took a couple of goes when being more conscious about timing. I was genuinely expecting it to be tricky given age etc, so we were very light touch about it and tried to manage our expectations. A lot easier than we thought. I turned 37 while pregnant, currently 30 weeks pregnant.

Just a consideration for people worrying re risk and maternal age: I had to have the blood test as they couldn’t get the measurements at 12 week scan (very unco-operative foetus :) ) .On the sheet that came back with the results, my age related risk is 1 in 240. However when that is combined with my other risk factors, individual risk was rated at 1 in 11,200. I happen to have no other risk factors for the genetic conditions that the blood test considers. I also happen to have no factors that have made my pregnancy so far be considered high risk. My midwife explained to me that age is one factor to consider amongst others. I know I’m only anecdata, but I also think I’m not that unusual. I wouldn’t want someone reading this thread to panic about age alone. yes there’s increased risk and lower fertility post 30 but it’s only one factor in many.
