Hello everyone . So I have an 18 month old boy and have started feeling very broody . I wanted to wait until my son was around 18 -24 months before trying to conceive . My husband isn't too keen on having another one just yet as he feels my son is a lot of work ( he's a very fussy eater and prematurely going through the terrible twos!) . I've been back at work (part time ) around 8 months now . I was very blessed to get pregnant right away with my first (in the first month I was trying ) . I'm not sure how it will be this time around but am keeping a positive outlook . My husband and I use natural conception (pull out method ) as I wasn't worriedly about getting pregnant with my second . If I start trying now and am lucky and get pregnant right away I'll have a July - August baby. However after speaking to my friends who have summer babies , I've been told that it's better to aim for a due date of September as he/ she will start school only after their 4th birthday . My son is a winter baby so he will start school at. 4.5 years . I never really thought of all this with my first but after speaking to my friends I'm worried . What do you guys think ? Anyone have a sunmer baby or aiming for an Autumn baby? Thanks in advance !! xx

Hi pebblesandblamblam,
Thank you. No yams . I'm very lucky . I don't know if it makes a difference but I've never taken any contraceptive except the pull out method . It's worked for me so far (no accidents thank god!). I think it may take longer if someone is on the pill etc . I'm just very grateful :) have had another boy a month ago!;) Goodluck to everyone else out here :)xx

Wow, that was quick! Did you eat yams? ;-)

Congrats to you!

Hi everyone . Thank you all for your helpful insights . I am pregnant and expecting a summer baby :) Im just very happy to be pregnant again and won’t be worrying about the whole summer baby thing . I’ll see how I feel once he/she needs to start school . It will be nice to have a summer baby and be able to get out with the little one (especially as I can’t really stay indoors with another toddler ) . Goodluck to everyone whose trying .😊

I was an end of August baby and it never held me back. Still being 29 when all my school friends had already turned 30 was excellent haha! Being off school on your birthday every year is also great.

And as others have pointed out, there are so many variables and it could take a while/ages anyway.

There is an added bonus to summer babies nobody seems to think about.... Birthday paries! We had some lovely ones in the park... Treasure hunt, picnic, bug hunt and other outdoor activities! Grin

Hi there, I’m finding it hard to understand when I should try for a baby if I wish for a September child. I fall very quickly (I’m very lucky) and the last two times we fell the first month of trying. I know this may not happen this time but I would like to try for a September baby. I have an avage 30 day cycle and seem to start my period around the 25-27th of each month. Do doctors date your pregnancy from your last period? With my other two I came off contraption and fell before having a period. But this time I’ve been contraption free for the last 5 months. I needed a dating scan the last times as I never knew when I got pregnant. I don’t want a August baby (if this can be helped). Any help would be wonderful smile xxx

Hi TurquoiseDress
Thank you ! I think I've just been over - thinking and over - analysing things . My husband also wasn't very keen to start trying for baby no 2 now as he still has nightmares about my last pregnancy and delivery 😂. But I managed to convince him and stopped thinking so much myself :) Have been actively trying now so let's see . I want another baby so much that waiting did seem silly . And just because I was lucky the first time round to conceive right away doesn't mean it will happen now . There are so many lovely smart young ladies who were born in the summer - it's really put my mind at ease now :) thank you for your words :) Sorry about your loss and Congratulations on your new addition!:)

I know a lot of posters have very bright summer borns but statistically they don't catch up with autumn born children till secondary.

TurquoiseDress · 16/10/2017 17:09

I think if you want another baby you may as well get on with it, personally I have never for a moment considered what time of year I might have a baby.

I too fell pregnant first go with DC1- never gave much thought to the due date.

DC2- I again fell pregnant first go but unfortunately it was bad news at the dating scan. This was 16 months ago and we've not yet managed to conceive again.

Honestly, any due date at all would be fabulous!

What I'm trying to say is- don't try to analyse or over plan things- sometimes life doesn't work out the way you want it to.

Good luck

PS I'm a late summer baby & one of the youngest in my year, but I always did well and went on to earn two university degrees

Stee1 · 16/10/2017 17:04

My son who's 8 is a summer baby end of July he's in top sets for all classes and some who are born 8 months before him are in the lowest sets. Ttc again and if I'm successful this month then that baby will be July too... to me doesn't matter when they are born ect

sara28 · 16/10/2017 16:44

Hi SoozC,
You're right :) looking at how hard everyone has been trying I feel very silly for planning . I've started trying already :) I hope you conceive soon! All the very best :)
And Csd17 - thank you . That really helps :) I've left matters into nature's hands :) x

If you want to, try. You can always make the decision to carry on trying even though the baby will be born in spring or summer.

And what lisa said re conception advice - rude and inappropriate irl, rude and inappropriate on here, regardless of how complex/delayed/whatever your own pregnancy was.

Csd17 · 15/10/2017 02:31

Ps the youngest girl in my class at school was very bright. She’s now a stock broker in London.

Csd17 · 15/10/2017 02:30

You as parents will have a huge impact on your child’s academic success. Let the universe decide the right time for your baby to arrive :)))

SoozC · 14/10/2017 19:47

It's me who's been trying 20 months.

Just try. It ultimately doesn't matter when your child is born, that you have a baby is everything, surely? I really don't think autumn/summer born is worth worrying about.

From an experienced primary school teacher and summer-born baby with a masters degree.

Thank you Juneybean. I hope you conceive soon ! All the best :)x

Hi LisaSimpsonsbff,
Thank you for posting . As far as advising regarding supplements - I wasn't doing that. I was merely giving someone who has been trying very hard , some suggestions. These suggestions were based on my best friend's experience who had tried for nearly two years . And it is up to anyone whether they take advise or not . Although I did conceive right away I had a very high risk pregnancy, was induced and in labour for 3 days and my son landed in the ICU with a collapsed lung . So we all have our struggles . I'm sorry if you've been trying to conceive without success for 20 months . It must be very hard . I've seen my friend go through it and I wouldn't wish it on anyone . I wish you all the best and really hope you conceive soon . x

I think a spring baby would be lovely. I was an August baby and it was annoying to be the last to age up and go out etc etc with my friends. I don't know if it impacted me academically.

juneybean · 11/10/2017 12:19

I wanted a January baby, funnily enough I'm still trying 7 months later. I just want a baby now and couldn't give two shits when it comes.

I was a summer baby and was by far one of the brightest by year 4-6.

Oysterbabe · 11/10/2017 12:17

I wanted to avoid a summer baby for the reasons mentioned and had a winter one. Having another winter baby this time and I'm really pleased because it was lovely. Snuggle in with a newborn while it's freezing and horrid and ready for picnics in the park once weaning starts in the summer.
But tbh there are advantages and disadvantages of any time of year and I would have been happy whenever I conceived as long as I did.

PetalMettle · 11/10/2017 11:43

My one and only would have been a November baby if we’d conceived first month of trying he’s actually July 2 years on. I don’t think you can plan these things
Sending love to the long term ttcers x

LisaSimpsonsbff · 11/10/2017 11:37

As a summer baby I'd also agree that it really doesn't matter.

As another one who's been trying for more than a year I'd also say that a) these things don't always happen when you want and b) please don't ever give advice on basic things like supplements to a long-term TTCer again. No one gets to 20 months without both looking for and getting given a lot of fertility advice, and frankly it's not going to be particularly welcome from some who conceived in their first month trying...

sara28 · 11/10/2017 11:06

Hi GrasswillbeGreener. Thank you ! That does put my mind at ease . Honestly I would love a summer baby . The only thing that was holding me back was the whole school issue . But what you've said makes sense . So I'll start trying :) thanks again ! xx
