Hi,

Been here a while and thought, I don't see many posts how one got their BFP!! So in the name of TTC-ers, would the newly BFP-ers share their successes.

Were you planning, strategically trying, been through the hsg/bloods/ivf meetings/had ivf/clomid, addicted to ovulation testing, random night out, thought 'fuck it' then it happened...

Share your BFP love guys...

5 years of TTC - meticulous charting, temp taking, ovulation sticks, timing sex, different positions, vitamins, diet, legs in the air, pre-seed, moon cups, cough mixture, acupuncture, no alcohol, stress, arguments, misery, despair ... nothing. BFN every.single.month.

Suddenly we're going to be homeless (renting). One month warning after 6 happy years. Panic! Clear out, packing, panic, house hunting, cleaning, panic, moving - did i say panic? - then clearing jungle garden in the new place. Friends wedding in the middle of it all - legless drunk on neat Jack Daniels to drown our sorrows and one very drunken shag in hotel with DH. No other sex all month. 4 weeks of not thinking for ONE SECOND about TTC at all. No time or energy!

One week into new house ... late period Confused

Surely not? Hmm

You guessed it Grin

excellent thread!

Ds took 4 years. I was very naive about ttc and genuinely thought there was something wrong with me. I have high bmi and was too scared to go to the doctors so we just kind of gave up and got in with life. Needless to say a positive test which I only took after being forced to by my sil after I complained of unbelievable tiredness and sore boobs but no period. Turned out I was already 7 weeks pregnant. Ds is now 3.

With dc2 we started trying around April last year. I used the ovia app initially and just checked my cm. After 3 months of nothing I tried telling but was useless at remembering to do it. Tried ic opks and then after 7 months of nothing I decided to use the cb digital opks. I got my bfp the first time I used them and am now 35 weeks pregnant.

Tigger83 · 10/09/2017 08:03

Oh I'm 13 weeks pregnant with baby 1 and have had 2 miscarriages whilst on my ttc journey

Tigger83 · 10/09/2017 08:02

My main tip would be continue to dtd after you get positive opk and keep testing until you're sure the opk is negative, I often had 2 surges. Also just because opk is positive doesn't mean you're ovulating at that second you've got at least 12-48 hrs past the positive opk before you ovulate, occasionally a bit longer!

voxnihili · 09/09/2017 18:19

After 18 months of trying I had an AMH test done which showed I had a low ovarian reserve. I was devastated but was given advice on things to do to maximise success, including using OPKs.

I know the day of conception as DP and I had only done it once in the space of a few weeks due to work commitments etc. I had a feeling the OPK would be positive so I had a can of knock off red bull to keep me awake in the evening. When I got home I tested and the OPK was positive. I went in to tell DP who said 'what now?' to which I replied that he had time to finish his cup of tea first!

Two weeks later, I was cursing the fact that my period hadn't arrived as I'd been referred for tests and couldn't get them done until day 2 of my cycle. It then dawned on me that maybe I was pregnant.

When I got that BFP I thought it mad for an amusing story and had a chuckle to myself. Sadly it wasn't to be and I miscarried - still waiting for another BFP.

ForeverHopeful21 · 09/09/2017 18:06

Coming from someone who has been trying for a baby for almost 3.5 years, this is what I did to finally get my BFP (side note, I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts which also impacts my fertility):

In the run up to my BFP I had changed my prenatal vitamins to the Pregnacare all singing all dancing (expensive) ones and I also took high dose Omega 3. I also made my DH take vitamins too. I changed my diet to mainly Organic where possible.

I had kept a record of my cycles on Ovia App for 4 months to help me understand my cycle, so that I knew exactly when I would ovulate. I used the clear blue ovulation sticks to back this up. In the end I was able to predict the exact day even though I have irregular cycles.

On my successful cycle, we decided to go all out and dtd every single day in my fertile window including the day I ovulated. We had never done this before. We used to opt for every other day-ish as I had heard this was better for his swimmers but apparently this only applies to men with low sperm count.

I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant.
Good luck x

I was ttc #2 since December 2016. With my first I fell quickly so thought it would be easy. Totally wrong! By cycle 3 I was opking, temping and trawling the forums like a madwoman. Every time AF was due I would drive myself (and OH) nuts! Turning point for me was late July/early August when I had a chemical. I had a faint (but noticeable) line on a FRER at around 11DPO and got really excited. Bought a 'I've been promoted to big sister' Tshirt for my 2 yo dd and was planning on taking a digital and then having her give it to him as a surprise. Took the digital at 12DPO and 'not pregnant'. I was devastated. The next cycle, this one just gone, I didn't do anything. Just DTD pretty regularly but no opking or temping or anything. I actually really relaxed. Then about 3 days before AF was due to start I had low lying nausea. Also I was tired all the time and got a cold. I had lower back pain and AF style cramps. I waited until a day after she was due (unwilling to risk disappointment of another chemical) and there it was. My BFP! Now nearly 5 weeks pregnant and progressing nicely. So there is hope and as cliche as it sounds I think relaxing really does help! Once I took all the stress out of it it worked! Good luck to all who are ttc and tons of baby dust Smile

Tattybogle89 · 09/09/2017 13:40

@greggs at least you know your pelvic floor muscles are in a good state 😂

GreggsSausageRolls · 09/09/2017 13:03

I second legs in the air as aiding my conception previously!
TMI But we did the deed this morning I was lying there as normal with hips elevated after, I sneezed and pretty sure I sneezed out the semen 😳

Legs in the air for me from now on!

Bubble04 · 09/09/2017 13:03

DC1 went on some meds that stopped my contraceptive pill working 😬

DC2 no idea. I was on the pill for that one too. Never trusted the pill again!

Now ttc #3 on cycle 2 but considerably older and more haggered lol

1st pregnancy happened first attempt, after a few goes at unprotected sex and legs up in the air after.(no idea if this theory works but certainly feels like it stops semen escaping for longer..)

2nd pregnancy , currently 29 weeks. Three months of trying ( I know compared to some people this is NOTHING.) but I started to panic and bought clearblue digital ovulation sticks.
Stressful peeing and waiting on a smiley.. finally got smiley and had had sex few days before it, same night and few days after it. Legs up after again ( what's the harm right?!) and was very surprised to be pregnant!

Had read about men's sperm being better quality if you don't have sex everyday or too often, so just tried to cut back a bit and the opk's were what helped me for sure. I was ovulating very late in my cycle.. totally unexpected . Turns out I had been having sex at all the wrong times the months before.

I wish everyone the best of luck.

I still get a kick in the ribs from baby and can't believe it x

WineAndTiramisu · 08/09/2017 22:14

TTC for 8 months, religiously peeing on ovulation sticks, timing DTD etc
Then I buggered it up for a month, was away so didn't pee on sticks, thought ovulation was a week earlier than it actually was (was on night shifts during actual fertile period and don't think we actually DTD on the peak days).
Tested a week early as well due to this, bfn.
Suddenly realised I'd got it all wrong, thought I'd do a test and there was the BFP Grin

cailisto · 08/09/2017 21:23

Sending massive sticky hugs to all of you. I know how horribly hard it is, especially when it seems like other people are getting their whole families made during the time you're trying. Been there, got many t-shirts and it sucked.

Whatever way you end up getting to be a parent, it'll be amazing! Be it through eventual luck; ivf; surrogacy or adoption. I'm a strong believer in positivity and I wish all of you so, so much luck and love.

Lovely thread!!!

BloomingImpatient · 08/09/2017 13:49

Thanks for sharing so far ladies btw! I know it's not always easy, even when you've had a bumpy ride it can hurt sharing with the world but I'm grateful 😘 and BFP are achievements and shows that we're all different sharing the same goal!

Reinforces my ongoing rationale... relax!

Really, try to enjoy my own journey!

cloud 'so far its stuck' it's a post-it down there!! Big congrats!! Bloody years of crap to have an amazing outcome!

kitty I had to Google provera!! We're told to 'look after ourselves' and how the pill can help, which obviously a great resource to have but then when you're ready, you have to get your body back on board!

Oyster I'm looking forward in having a break. If I'm still too chunky end of Oct and have a shit app at the hospital, I'm coming out of there and booking a week in the sun. You, a PROPER holiday!! Big congrats too! Ha ha you'll probably a have surprise third!! Ha it happens!!!

This is such a lovely thread. Keep 'em coming!

With my first we got engaged in December and booked the wedding for early May. I was 34 and been on some kind of hormonal contraception since 16. We decided to stop it and start trying straight away. I don't do anything by halves so went down the whole temping and opks from the off. It didn't do me any good though and I didn't get pregnant until our honeymoon in May when I'd left all that stuff behind. I went back on the pill after DD was born.
We started trying for our second when DD was 13 months and I was 36. Again I started using OPKs from the start. They seemed more important this time because I was so knackered from running after a toddler that I could barely be arsed to have sex. It only took 2 months this time and DS is due 2 weeks before DD turns 2.
I'm very excited for him to arrive but we are definitely done with babies now :)

TinyBarista · 08/09/2017 10:52

Really like reading these, great positive thread Blooming

BloomingImpatient · 08/09/2017 10:44

I think it's important to share, I'm grateful to hear how it happened for guys! Especially when you have a break or generally think, all this effort is too much... then PUFF.

Also I think it's a general consensus to when you feel you need a break to have one, hopefully on holiday with a cocktail!!

Hey!

Im currently 16 weeks pregnant but had been ttc for a year. I was on microgynan pill for over 10 years. stopped June 2016 and my cycles were irratic ever since. It was always different total nightmare to track, at one point my AF disappeared for 3 months and i had to take provera to kick start it!. In march my GP took blood which showed my hormone levels all normal and put the cycles down to stress/ my body still adjusting to life after the pill. my first cycle after provera was 59days.

During my 2nd cycle after provera I went on a holiday to Greece and took clear blue ovulation sticks. DTD around the time of the static smiley but as we had been trying for a year I didnt hold out much hope. When we got home I felt a bit unwell thought it was just 2 weeks of drinking and eating lots of bad food. Coming up to AF time I even had stomach cramp so thought I was definately out but did a test anyway and it was positive!

Along the way I lost count on how many times I was baby bombed, had friends give birth. Definately made me feel blue espically when it seemed to happen so easy for others while months of frustration had went by for me. but I knew one day it would be me. Never give up its going to happen. It took a year for me and it will happen to everyone here xx

cailisto · 07/09/2017 22:50

Some lovely stories! Thank you, Blooming, for your lovely comments! We have had a bloody difficult 14 years in total, but we got there! I was actually at the stage where I would have been very happy to adopt and we were sorting out the initial paperwork for that when I got the BFP no. 1!
Getting drunk (at the right time) definitely seemed to help us massively! I also found that I got to be an expert on EWCM the first time round, so just giving up/stopping caring/getting hammered seemed to help.

Cloudwalk · 07/09/2017 22:40

I was told at 18 the chance of us conceiving a child was very low due to PCOS after a series of ultrasounds.

At 29 we conceived second month of trying and had a chemical pregnancy, got lucky the month immediately after and so far it's stuck 🤞🏻

My husband and I were so ready to adopt, we had discussed it and we thought we would try for a few years first.

Still in shock Flowers

BloomingImpatient · 07/09/2017 21:30

loose my old boss is 11 years older than me, had endo, tried for ages then was successful... then a second one came not long after and endo eased!

crumms it's like 'first-the-worse'!!! that sounds STRESSFUL but glad you've almost got a 4-side going! What is it and men and 'sperm'? ha ha mines worried at the mo because on paper (so far) we're 'NORMAL' , he's got a 3% moph but it's been 4% before so they're not worried about either of us.

We have our next app in 2 months, 2 stone to lose or "I will have to stop this journey for you, if you're not in the limit, we won't help'... we had one appointment. I felt like the doctor was a head master!!

Admiral bloody love the booze element! Had two nights drinking this year. My mate has said with all the stress i'm under atm, with ttc on top, i'm not myself and she's right, in fact i've been trying to hide how tired I am. Arranging a low-calorie drink (we'll see) but defo a weekend away with DH to chill and have a good laugh really.

It get way too stressful!

Have acupuncture booked too.
