Hi, I've just done my first injection and I was wondering if anyone else would like to join me for the cycle? Scary isn't it :/

Sorry to hear your news Dogtired, I had my fingers crossed for you today. We will all have to help each other stay positive and think that we can all achieve the outcome that we deserve.
It takes a while for the result to sink in, and I know that I didn't really want to talk about it to anyone other than DH.

I'm thinking about you...and Nelli and am going to try and be alot more positive about it all the next time around.

Take good care....and make a plan, no matter how long into the future it is, I found this really helped me.

x

Test yesterday was negative I'm afraid Dp's off soon to work away until August, so we'll have to wait until then to try again.

Hi ther Smudgerr - I feel exactly the same as you. I can't help thoughts of ' its never going to happen for us' from creeping into my head. Luckily we are in a position (with a little help from my parents) to be able to try again, not sure when though. We are still waiting for our follow up appt at the clinic as we still haven't received it yet. so will wait untill then before we make any definite decisions. We have already decided not to tell anyone next time round as I especially found the inevitable 'sympathy look' too much to bear!! Both my dh and I were the opposite to you as we were so positive and convinced it would work! It was really strange but I was so positive untill the day before my test day , I went to work and couldn't do anything - I was just crying all the time, I just knew, something was telling me it hadn't worked and unfortunately I was proved right. Again like you I am surrounded by pregnant women or pregnant talk, and find it all so very hard. My closest friend from school has just asked me to be godfather to her little boy (she also had a really tough time conceiving but eventually got caught naturally)I am obviously delighted but a little aprehensive about the christening for obvious reasons. Goes without saying that when she asked me there were lots and lots of tears as it was only 2 days after we got our result. My dh says we just have to believe that we will be blessed one day, its what keeps us going at the moment.
I so know what you mean about it all be emotionally draining, I have only just about got some colour back in my cheeks after walking around looking like I just been dragged back from the dead for the last 11 days!! You will start to feel better in a few says, I know its hard but what other choice is there?! That probably doesn't help does it?! I do find it hard to keep positive too, so everything we are feelling is completely normal I'm sure.
Take Care and keep in touch

Just saw your name pop up on the thread dogtired and wanted to wish you lots of good luck for Monday/Wednesday - fingers crossed

Sorry to crash your thread girls - BTW saw mention of ARGC - I have a friend with a good success story form there and this will be my first choice if we get to IVF in the summer (only just beginning referrals now ) so woud be interested in all experiences - thanks and good luck all xxx

dogtired · 14/04/2007 20:26

Oh no! Smudgerr, I'm so sorry I really felt you'd be posting a BFP soon. I'm sorry I missed your message on Wednesday too, I've not been feeling any symptoms, or pg at all which is pretty depressing, so I've been trying to keep my mind off things.

What are you going to do? Have you discussed having another cycle yet? Will you have a look at the ARGC? I'm thinking of paying them a visit if this one fails - it's not like I've any frosties, so I'll have to start from scratch. I'm not sure why I wasn't on a long protocol - were you?

My test day is Monday at the clinic or Wednesday for a HPT. I feel pretty unenthusiastic though so I might not bother going to the clinic.

Lots of big hugs xxxx

Hi Nelli, thanks for the advice...I'm just really disappointed and unfortunately am starting to feel like it's never going to happen for us. We had a follow up consultation this week and will probably try again next month, it's just so emotionally draining. I am also, like most of us, surrounded by pregnant women everywhere, friends, work colleagues....I even had to buy baby presents yesterday as one of the girls left for maternity leave....it's just so hard pretending that everything's ok. I'm not going to tell as many people next time as I hated having to tell them that it failed and for them to feel sorry for me. I also work with girls in their 20's who talk about when they are going to have babies all the time!!

I was quite negative about the outcome this time before it had even happened, unfortunately that's my nature. But I'm going to try some positive mental attitude this time and maybe have some hypnotherapy or something......who knows what makes it successful?

How are you coping? Will you try again?

Dogtired, how are you getting on with the 2ww?

Nelli30 · 11/04/2007 11:23

Smudgerr - I am so very sad to read your news. I know exactly how you feel. Life is so very unfair. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to grieve and scream and shout and anything else you need to do. I had a negative last wednesday and even though its a week later and , yes you do have to get on with things I still have my moments. Don't try to push yourself to ' get back to normal' too quickly. You must give yourself time to deal with the disappointment and heartache and all the other feelings that will come washing over you. We are all here for you, please feel free to message me if you want to chat.

Take care of each other and take time to heal
love

Just to let you know that I was due to test on Thursday 12th and I got my period yesterday!! So, didn't even make it to the 2 week mark, not sure what this means. I'm obviously upset and really disappointed but just have to get on with things....

Dogtired, how are getting on?

Chocolatedays · 05/04/2007 13:34

Good Luck Dogtired.... guess this will be the longerst 2 weeks of your life!

Take care.

dogtired · 05/04/2007 13:32

Hi, thanks LNO! well the two embies survived (phew) and I had them put back in yesterday. The doc said they were of pretty good quality, one was in excellent shape, the other showed signs of a tiny bit of fragmentation, so I'm taking things really easy now and settling in for the 2ww. How are you?

Just snooping/lurking. Best of luck for tomorrow dogtired. Hope it works for you.

dogtired · 03/04/2007 13:39

Thanks lel!

How you doing today Smudgerr?

I was told this morning that both my eggs have been fertilised by ICSI and I'm to go in tomorrow for transfer. I'm really nervous now.

Having a healthy baby seems like the hardest thing in the world right now - so many things can go wrong, it's almost overwhelming.

littleEasterlapin · 02/04/2007 22:45

Not doing IVF, but just popping on to wish you luck

Smudgerr · 02/04/2007 22:43

That's fantastic news - you must be relieved and very excited. It's just such a rollercoaster, that's the hardest thing I'm finding so far. Well done you sending you lots of luck for the phone call tomorrow, remember that it really is the quality not the quantity that counts and yours sound like good eggs

dogtired · 02/04/2007 22:07

Fortunately I was wrong about losing an egg! Doc got 2 and they're looking ok apparently. So now I'm waiting for a call to tell me if we need ICSI....

Sorry you're feeling uncomfortable, I've heard about the windyness. I've heard good things about the Lister, that's probably why they're so busy. At least if you do need another cycle you know how they operate so you might feel a bit more in control? Anyway, you won't be needing another cycle I'm at the LFC by the way.

This afternoon I got the feeling that I'd lost one of my eggs - both my sides have felt tender and swollen since last night's Pregnyl, but then this afternoon, the left suddenly suddenly felt ok. But if I've only got one follicle left, I'm going to abandon this cycle, so I'm going to get an extra scan before EC tomorrow.

I'll let you know how I get on. Hope your bloatiness calms down soon, and make the most of not doing anything - wish I had that option!

OP posts:
Smudgerr · 01/04/2007 18:36

Hi Dogtired, I wouldn't worry too much about the number of follicles as it sounds like you have two very good ones....good luck for tomorrow.

I have been quite uncomfortable since egg collection. It didn't hurt at all on the day of the collection but since then I've been really bloated and full of wind which is very painful. (yuk) I have been resting but I am so bored, haven't left the house all weekend. I've also been really emotional which is probably down to the boredom as well, one minute I'm really positive and then the next just think that it's such a lot to go through for such a small percentage of success.

I'm at The Lister in London - they're ok but just so, so busy. They have 3 waiting rooms and on Monday mornings some of us have to stand. I did think about having a consultation at the ARGC if this one fails, but don't know whether it's better to stick to the devil you know.

Lots of luck tomorrow, it sounds like you've got two fantastic eggs lurking in those follies. Take care

dogtired · 31/03/2007 21:33

Hey Smudgerr!

Wow - three transferred, terrific! Good luck - I guess you're in for the longest 2 weeks of your life now... Are you uncomfortable at all? I hope you're taking things easy, I hear that the eggs might not implant properly for around 3 days and if you do anything at all strenuous you might lose them. Also you're not to have any hot baths.

Had another scan today - still only two follicles, no others at all, but they're of a good size, 21 and 22 mm, the edges are nice and defined, and my endometrium is looking good, so we're going ahead and will do the EC on Monday morning. They're concerned that my egg reserve is so low it might be pointless waiting to see if I have more on another cycle. I just hope there are eggs in there and they're of good quality!

I think it's a bit difficult trying to rate a clinic when it's the only one you've experienced, but they seem good, the staff are nice and friendly. However, they didn't give me enough Orgalutron so I missed last night's jab so had to have it this morning instead. There was the mix up with the Puregon too, but that was kind of my fault for not listening properly. I'm not sure I'd try a different clinic if this cycle fails, although I know the ARGC has a very good success rate, so I might have a look at that one.

Where's your clinic, is it in London?

OP posts:
Smudgerr · 31/03/2007 20:33

Hi Dogtired, how did you get on at the clinic today? I had my transfer and they put all 3 back though only one of them is a grade 1, so it's now in the lap of the Gods...as they say.

How do you rate your clinic? I'm already thinking that if this cycle isn't successful that we should visit some alternatives.

Hope today brought some good news...

dogtired · 30/03/2007 20:57

Whoops, got my days wrong in my previous post - I meant I had my scan on Thursday, not Sunday!

Great news on your embryos I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a successful ET for you tomorrow, and I'll let you know what my doctor says. Bet my clinic's more expensive than yours though (probably because it has a Harley St address []hmm]) I cannot believe the price of the meds

OP posts:
Smudgerr · 30/03/2007 18:51

Dogtired, only just read the other part of your message. My nurses (though they do change their minds daily) said that they had to be around your size for collection and perhaps they think that going for EC with only 2 follicles is expecting too much. That's what I felt, to be honest, I felt a bit silly as the other lady I was sharing a room with had 11 ! However, having just been in your shoes, if you can afford to go ahead with just two good size follicles then I would say go for it. The blood test will also give you an indication of whether or not they contain an egg.

I think they may not want you to go ahead because of the cost and the low percentage of success, but hey, look at how many I managed with supposedly only 2....but everyone is different and you have to do what is right for you. Unfortunately, my clinic haven't impressed me so far and they seem to be one of the most expensive. We wanted to do PGS as I've miscarried in the past and they said I couldn't do it with only 2 follicles, however I managed to get 7 eggs, so we could have done it....but obviously now we can't as it's too late to arrange it.

I hope you are getting good support and information from your clinic.
