PG four weeks after miscarriage - it hardly seems possible??

Hi all,

I started to miscarry at 7wks pregnant on 19th February. I went to the nurse who did a test and confirmed my hcg levels had returned to normal by 2nd March.

I began eperiencing some faint pregnancy symptoms around 12 March and did a test yesterday (18th March). It was positive!

It hardly seems possible that I can fall pregnant again so quickly - I seem to be in my fourth week of pregnancy already. My cycle must have kicked in as soon as I saw blood, which is unusual seeing I was still showing up as pg until 22 Feb!! I phone the nurse today (who was incidentally too busy to speak to me and spoke to me through the recpeptionist) and I heard her saying 'is she sure, is she sure??' Has this happened to anyone else?

It's crazy but I'm

Thankyou...I've gained alot of comfot from this particular thread...

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2007 16:11

I think that?s a good sign though that you want to try again don?t you? I felt like that too and I can?t get enough of it now not because I?m a nympho, though I have to say it is all fun but if I?m honest, the thrill is more for the peace of mind you get from knowing you?re upping your chances of falling again . Luckily, DH feels exactly the same about it I really hope the bleeding stops soon, you?ll feel so much better.

mumto3girls · 23/03/2007 14:47

You know it's bizarre that I am so impatient fo the bleeding to stop ( it's slowly tailing off) but even though I've been vey emotional and in a greta deal of discomfot at times I have just been so preoccupied thinking about sex the last few days...
As soon as I'm able to the thought will probably disappear again...

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2007 14:18

That?s fabulous Fettleandminifettle (I love it!) I am so pleased for you, I hope you and DP feel a massive wave of relief Thank you for letting me know, was thinking about you. Re conception, I hope I haven?t missed the boat then I couldn?t even think about sex until 10 days later xx

NAB3 · 23/03/2007 14:14

That happened to me and I conceived twins. One little boy arrived and he is now a cute 21 month old!!

mumto3girls · 23/03/2007 14:13

Congratulations Fettle - that's great news!

fettleandminifettle · 23/03/2007 12:17

Hi All

Just checking in to say that all was ok at my scan today - baby was very relaxed and didn't move much, but sonographer was great and made me get up, so I could see that baby was moving. No mistaking the heart beating though!!

She's moved my due date to 23rd Sept, which I don't believe - think i'm just having another long baby! It would mean we must have conceived over a week earlier that I thought and immediately after the bleeding from the mc stopped and I don't think we had sex then!

Anyway, so hope that you all have the same wonderful news very soon - here's lots of babydust and pg tummy rubbing for you all. Was too superstititious to do it before!

lots of love

Hi Hotchoc ? sadly, we are in exactly the same position as you know, but it?s nice not to be going through it alone

I have read that you count the first day of MC bleeding as CD1, not sure if that includes spotting or not but I thought not as for me anyway, I had that quite a bit throughout the 10 weeks I was pg and the MC only happened when the real bleeding got started. I?ve also read elsewhere that you can expect a period between 6 and 8 weeks after a MC and that sometimes it can take a while for ovulation to happen after a MC so there seems to be quite a few conflicting pieces of advice out there.

I have been temping again since 10/3 (which coincidentally would also be cd10 if I counted from the first proper bleed) and I am still waiting for ovulation. We have been putting in the effort but are beginning to get knackered!

I feel exactly the same as you, each day is different and I don?t know how I?ll feel from one to the next emotionally. Physically, I feel fine really but I have bad skin, not just on my face which is quite unusual for me, I?m getting the greasy hair again and I generally feel lardy and unattractive, it might be the hormones tailing off, who knows!

I would have been 12 weeks now too Thing to remember I guess is that the worst is surely over, I wouldn?t want to repeat the last 3 weeks for anything Keep the hope and I look forward to us being pg together again in happier times

Hello Mumto3girls ? you too, look forward to being a bump gang!

mumto3girls · 22/03/2007 20:54

Hi Hotchoc - sory about your loss. Good luck with tying again - pehaps we should start our own trying after mc gang?

hotchoc · 22/03/2007 18:58

hi all been lurking around the last wee while, so exciting to know that is totally possible to become pregnant again so soon after a m/c. i am trying to work out ovulation and when to expect a period. do you count the m/c as the day you had some spotting or when the heavy stuff kicked in? sorry about the terminology!!! guess you just need to wait and see.
feeling a lot better most of the time now, have wobbly moments every time i hear of someone due in october, would have been 12 weeks now and letting everyone know. m/c started on 25 feb
good to feel like others understand what i've been through and the chats answer lots of questions for me so thanks everyone, hotchocxx

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 16:55

What an amazing story! I so hope I fall easily this time, it took me 8 cycles to get the pregnancy I've just lost

charlottegeorgiaolivermums · 22/03/2007 16:39

Spaceman
Also feel almost the same day as I had a miscarriage.
Never had the tests you have had but when I feel again I did question whether I'd miscarried or not, they did a scan and yes I had and this was a new pg. Husband asked how the hell it happened and the widwife went down the line of you slept with your wife and.... She then said that because I'd been pg and lost the baby that the womb had been all ready and the body starts to prepare so if it ends the body is already ready to go so you full so much easilier she said that my hormone levels where still higher than normal so this helped.
It appears that a very large number of women full pg within a month of a miscarriage.
Congrats spaceman

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 16:24

I know but many of those will pass very soon I hope.

mumto3girls · 22/03/2007 16:08

Yes... the indignity...the pain..the messiness...the heartache and not even being able to have sex right now....

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 16:06

Hope this all ends soon for you that is one of the worst things I think, the prolonging of the agnony!

mumto3girls · 22/03/2007 15:56

Thanks MsMJr..sorry for your loss ..I had blood test on Fri after scan showed gestation sac and nothing else...should have been 6 weeks...
The results were 1600...then went back sunday and they were 1400...have to go again to make sure they have dropped significantly ...

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 15:45

Really feel for you I bought a 2 pack pf pg tests last night to do a test this morning to see if I am getting a ?ive yet but I just couldn?t bring myself to do it, it felt all wrong and I thought either way, it would make me cry so best left until the weekend. I feel I must do one before I OV though just to make sure I get a ?ive so that if I get a +ive soon, I?ll know that it?s real. The EPU said nothing about following up, they told me that the hormones would be around for a while and that it was just a waiting game. I think I read somewhere that the HCG has a 36 hour half life which explains why after 10 weeks, it might take a while to leave my system. I do know exactly how you feel hon, I really do

mumto3girls · 22/03/2007 15:21

Hi again all - thanks for the kind thoughts. What a terrible cruel irony that today, knwing that I have miscarried, I was hoping to get a clear negative on a HPT. Instead ( after all the months of hoping and praying to see one) I got a positive straight away ...it just seems like a nasty joke.

The EPU say that a HPT can show positive for weeks after...have to have another blood test to confirm that hormone levels are dropping at correct rate.

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 11:49

Thanks Spaceman ? we have been busy but ovulation is proving elusive! maybe my body just isn?t ready yet? Thing is, it took us 8 cycles to get a BFP so in addition to wondering if I can have a healthy baby, I?m worried that it?ll take me a while to fall too. Hence the desire to make the most of the MC fertile time, myth or not!

Congratulations MuminFife!! That?s amazing! ? if I OVd 1 ½ weeks after MC, I will?ve missed my slot as I was still bleeding then so wanted to wait until that had stopped.

And to you Hart2Hart

Wishing you lots and lots of luck this cycle Mumto3girls, sorry to hear what you have been through

Congratulations again Jossie! Spoken to you on another thread!

mumto3girls · 21/03/2007 10:29

Congatulations JossieJump!!!

lissielou · 21/03/2007 10:14

when i was pg with ds i had some bleeding at 7w went for a scan and it showed a 5w sac, it didnt occur to me that there might be something wrong! since ds was born in april (i was 5w pg) ive had 3mcs and 1 ep. i miss that blind faith that everything will be ok in the end!

Jossiejump · 21/03/2007 10:00

Completely agree Helen, I think I've heard all of those comments over my 3 m/c, and the unforgettable, "well at least you can have another one" (said after my first m/c, then I m.cd twice more

helenhismadwife · 21/03/2007 09:12

CONGRATULATIONS Jossiejump [smile}

Mumto3girls I know what you mean about people thinking its easier when you have children already, the 'at least you have the others' comments and 'you know you can have babies' and the classic well it wasnt a proper baby yet etc etc yes but I wanted the baby I have lost as well.

From the minute you know you are pregnant you are expecting a baby not a bunch of cells

Jossiejump · 20/03/2007 23:19

Hiya
I have 2 DS, have had 3 m/cs the last of which was on 17th Feb, and I got a BFP yesterday!! Am really scared and don't want to believe it too much. (I know it wasn't residual hormones, due to hospital tests and a pg test I did last week which was BFN.
I agree that m/cs are just as bad when you have children already, but you feel like you should be apologising for taking it so much to heart. I never thought anything would go wrong when I had my boys.

mumto3girls · 20/03/2007 19:16

Thanks Spaceman. I really hope so. I'm sick of people assuming that if you already have children then having mcs doesn't bother you...(noone on here btw).

We feel the loss of every potential baby the same whether i's our first or last...

Good Luck with your pgy!
