Hi thats it really. If there is anyone who is about to start a new cycle with clomid, can you please be my friend?
This will be my first try on clomid, I have pcos, and started af today after a horrible 48 day cycle.
But af is here, hurray! which means i can start on the magic beans tomorrow.
So if you would like chat and hand holding too, please sign in here.
Im thinking good sense of humour, sympathy, and patience will be a must

Just like wannabe said really, you did test quite early, and your af hasnät arrived. I have taken clomid many times and never become more hungry, however have been pregnant twice and THAT has increased my appetite. Thatäs all!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 16/04/2007 10:52

pussycat you tested on cd24 that was 6 days ago. cd24 is far too early to test anyway - I would do another test just to be sure?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 16/04/2007 10:51

pussycat, have just caught up with this again and I have to echo what everyone else has said - the treatment you've had is appauling. I would actually go so far as to write to the clinic involved and complain - one blood test with results in 6 months time? totally unacceptable IMO.

increased appetite could be due to a couple of things. firstly could be down to impending af, if you're ovulating correctly etc now the hormone levels will be correct now and you may be hungry as your period is approaching, or it's possible you could be pg? you did test quite early before - do you have another test?

have to go now as ds is ill, can't even keep water down bless him but will be back on later x

pussycatmomma · 16/04/2007 10:43

errrrmmmmm, no i dont think so. I did a test on day 24, bfn. But no af yet. Why do you ask? Of course i would love to be, but my path never seems to be that straight forward im afraid.

PCM, is there any chance you may be pregnant now, (cannot use question mark as my keyboard is playing up). Sorry if this is a silly question.

pussycatmomma · 16/04/2007 10:21

hi thank you all again for your advice and replies. I am going to try and make an advance booking appt with my gp, which means it may well be in a few weeks time, but I am going to take up the points that you have mentioned. I am going to request gp to find out test results and explain them to me and also voice my concerns over the lack of monitoring and general support. Thank you all for helping me to make a little sense of all this.
Meanwhile, cd 30, no sign of af, gggggrrr, where is the old bat!!! Have had a terrible cold from friday, with mega mega sore throat, earache and hot sweats..........and on such a gorgeous weekend too!! Throat is now so bad, i only managed an hour at work and they have sent me home, voice is just not holding out! Hence a little sneaky post on mn
Just one last quick question....is clomid making anyone else more hungry than usual?? and i mean alot, we are talking ravenous here!!!! I am not normally fussed about food and meal times etc, often miss meals without thinking about it , but this last week have been starving! dh thinks this is enormously funny of course.... please tell me you lot are all getting it too otherwise i must be turning into a right heffer
hope everyone is ok and enjoying the sunshine.

Hi PCM,

Would certainly agree with Coggy's suggestion to visit your GP to discuss all this. Your GP should be able to take some action with regards to the clinic.

I would hope that another fertility unit would go over your case notes and outcome of previous treatment. They may or may not decide to continue with the clomid as it is, both scenarios are equally possible.

As a PCOSer it is important that you are monitored whilst on this drug. Clomid encourages the ovaries to work harder, it can also produce more LH. This is why it is not always suitable for all PCOS patients to take. Some PCOSers can become clomid resistant (my high LH levels were the reason I was not given this drug in the first place).

I am not sure whether IUI would be mooted as a possibility simply because this does not fully address the problem of the cystic ovaries associated with PCOS. However, I am no expert and it may be possible that this treatment option may be feasible in your case. I would have thought injectible drugs would be another way forward with regards to PCOS.

Let us know how you get on.

coggy · 15/04/2007 18:06

Don't feel stupid PCM......I would have done the same a year ago I'm sure.
I think we all assume that even the secretary knows more than us don't we?

Personally I would go back to your GP (if they are reasonably sympathetic) and get them to phone the clinic direct.....that's what I did.

Not sure about writing directly to the cons.
I did that and waited THREE months for a reply that wasn't even about me!!!!!
See what the GP can do for you first.......
(((((hugs)))))

MamaMaiasaura · 15/04/2007 15:53

aww PCM ((hugs)) completely feel for you and what a crappy secretary that woman is. I do suggest that you call again tho and not ask if she would but directly say, "Please take this message for the consultant" If she starts to refute keep pushing, she has no clinical training.

Sorry about SIL too. Clomid isnt the first attempt at ttc. What part of the country you in? I hads a choice over which clinic I went to. Also there should be more than one fertility consultant. If all else fails, speak to GP.

xx

I have decided to wait until Tuesday before I take provera as that way I hope CD will fall on a monday or tuesday (then cd21 should fall on same day.. unless the weeks change length!)

Am sat in the garden at the moment, enjoying the sunshine. Ds due back from his dad's today. I have really missed him. Doesnt help that I just finish a Jodi Picoult which always makes you want to hug dc closer.

pussycatmomma · 15/04/2007 09:43

hi all....thanks for all advice. Am feeling really stupid that I just took what the secretary said at face value and thought she must be right in what she was telling me . She even told me to bloody "relax" and "these things sometimes take time!" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I spoke to my sis-in-law about it the day I phoned up. She had fertility issues and had IUI to get her twins (now 9!). If anyone might be supportive you'd think it would be her, but no, Its all "I didnt bother with clomid, complete crap, but thats cause I went to XXX (hosp in city, with links to private fertility unit)" and "Well, you are only on the first stage arent you, just chill and be patient!" No! actually Im not! Ive been through all the initial stuff, found a prob, been diagnosed, had an op and now on my last treatment before iui or ivf will be be an option. In the Lords name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So sorry to offload on you lot
Just dont know what to do for the best.
Am sure the bloody secretary thinks im a screaming loon . I did particularly ask if it could be arranged for the cons to call me, she declined, and then if something could be put in writing. Again she declined.
Is it worth writing directly to cons do you think? Maybe he would have to respond to a letter?
Why is it so difficult just to get something which the hosp is there to provide and help you with in the first place ?
Attilla, if I were to request another fertility unit, would i be able to continue the clomid that i have already? Im not sure what they would do? Also if there is a long wait, say , over 6mths, and i have used all my "clomid-allowance" as it were, would they simply put me towards iui/ivf and not look at any other options? Hell, i dont even know what the other options are any more.

Hi ladies HOw u all doing. Are you ok PCM?

My consultant called me this morning bless her and I cant believe she called me on the weekend from home. I am very lucky to have her. Going to start provera.. going to leave it till Tuesday to start it as want AF to arrive on a weekday so my day 21 bloods fall on a week day too iyswim. She has also put up clomid to 100mg - this will only second cycle on clomid so it seems like she really has her finger on the pulse. PCM u really need to push for better care.

Consultant also told me not to use preseed, do temping or ov predictor or cm tests. She said to lay off internet and that just relaxing will be far far more beneficial than the above. bless her

I think she is spot on tbh. x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 14/04/2007 21:07

PCM

Your next appointment is October!!.

Utterly unacceptable. You need to be seen far sooner than that not just to say regularly (you ought to be closely monitored whilst on clomid because it cannot be determined whether its doing its job or not otherwise) I feel that you have been well and truly mucked about with to date.

TBH I would return to my GP and ask for a referral to another gynae subfertility unit in a major city if you are located near such a place. It is fair to say that some units are far better than others when it comes to subfertility.

coggy · 14/04/2007 16:01

What???!!!

Phone them again PCM......if I've learnt anything from all the trials and problems over the past two years...it's too be assertive...and dare I say it.....be arsey if you need to be.

I was polite and patient for FAR TOO long and just got put to the bottom of the pile because other people (who had been waiting FAR less time and had far fewer problems) were speaking up for themselves and I wasn't.

Don't let the same thing happen to you......GO FOR IT!!!!!
X

MamaMaiasaura · 13/04/2007 20:50

Pussycat - I would ring secretary again and state that it is important for you to have results and that consultant can contact you. Sec was out of order imo. You need to know results to know if u need it increased. She shouldnt be advising u. Still waiting to hear from my consultant. Good news is my liver function has improved to should be ok to go for increase too Not starting provera today as just want to give consultant chance to call as she is apparantly calling me this weekend from home! bless her. if she doesnt, it doesnt matter, will catch up next week. I am super chilled today about it, no idea why.

pussycatmomma · 13/04/2007 18:03

hey everyone....
wannabe i can only second everything that coggs has said in her post. Seems as if you have come to a decision and I know it has not been at all easy for you. Maybe this could be the step you need to be able to move forward? Also if you do change your mind there is always the chance of the increased fertility surge when coming off the pill to bring a little hope. Would you not go down the assisted conception route? I wish you and your family all the best in whatever life may have in store for you all.
Awen - again sorry to hear about bfn... Best now to take the provera and put the last cycle behind you.
Lulu, glad you have managed to so speedily begin your second cycle!
Am cd27 today, just waiting for af but no signs yet so could be in for a long wait unless the clomid is going to (hopefully) shorten my cycle. I rang the hosp today for my blood results and am v. p*ssed off that the secretary would not disclose them to me, or arrange for cons to call me, or arrange for them to be sent to me in writing. She suggested I ask at my next appt - Bloody October !! No further testing has been arranged for me and I am worried that if I am not ovulating on the 50mg dose then it wont be picked up and I wont have the chance to try increased dose and my fate will fall at the iui/ivf door.........
Does anyone elses thoughts run away with them like this??
Why isnt anything ever straightforward!!

OP posts:
coggy · 12/04/2007 22:16

to hear that wannaBe....Iknow it's not been an easy decision for you.

Are you going to take it for a few months and then come off.....I am sure that someone (medical/ doctor-ish-type-person-in my-dim-and-distant-ttc-past) told me that you can be more fertile when you first come off the pill?????

I hope I am not getting your hopes up again by saying that...but it maybe worth investigating???
I think it was my GP who suggested (originally) that I may like to try that.

Massive ((((hugs)))) to you my friend.
X

Sorry to hear about your bfn too PCM....but I am with wannaBe in the wrist-slapping queue.......you know you didn't want to do that test really!!
Those wretched things calling to us eh?
I have three in my bathroom.....thank goodness I am only CD5!!!!
Big (((((hugs))))) to you too tonight.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/04/2007 21:17

CD46 here. Tested this morning. BFN Called consultant as planned and she had a study day.. her secretary said that she would call me this evening and that she had left details with secretary along lines of if bfn induce AF and then start increased clomid 100mg.. as long as liver function improved. Looks like liver function has, although still above 'normal' limits and I need to have another test. Anyway, consiltant didnt actually call me and am debating wether just to get on with taking the provera or wait and see if she calls tomorrow.

[confused emocion]

hope everyone else ok x

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/04/2007 12:05

now if you test again early you'll be on detention young lady... . honestly don't put yourself through it. apart from anything else that money could have been far better spent on a bottle of wine! .

in answer to your question further down the thread, I'm going back on the pill this month, well that's if my af shows up properly. I had some light bleeding on Monday night and a bit on Tuesday, and it's now stopped, so I'm essentially on cd30 now and waiting for the full force of af, so once that happens I'll be going back on the pill and it'll all be over for me.

MamaMaiasaura · 11/04/2007 21:05

Hi guys, well CD45 here (cd41 since starting on clomid). Have to do another test in then morning (think complete waste of money as fairly sure will be yet another bfn ) Also have to call consultant tomorrow.. looking at taking provera and then clomid 100mg (never taken provera bvefore so bit worried). Planning on taking ds to the beach as well so hoping will get a good signal on the phone as on orange and usually get a really poor signal.

Am sat on my comfy sofa right now feeling quite chuffed with new laptop (dp treated me } Now I can watch TV and chat on here

pussycatmomma · 11/04/2007 19:26

oooh count me in lulu! Have just taken dog for long walk in park and called in shop for bottle of wine on way home, I'll send you a glass to have with your choc pots
Its just so crushing and so bloody frustrating every time though isnt it!!! I told my dh that id found a test and done it and of course bfn, hes just like "why do you do this to yourself!!!" His attitude is when you are preg you will know and that testing early/late/whatever won't make a shred of difference. I tried to explain that it is somehow more torturous to have a test staring at you from the cupboard and having it on your mind all day while you are supposed to be working etc etc. And that it is better to put the inevitable disappointment out of the way and just think, oh well, its not worked, and just wait for af. He says better to have the hope for as long as possible until af does arrive.
I say it just prolongs the agony.....
Its a lovely evening, we are going to have eat out on the deck tonight, so with my wine and the birdsong i may just be able to get it all out of my head for an hour or so!
Hiya coriander by the way!!! ((((waves)))) How are you??? How is baby Jack doing? Seems like a lifetime ago that we used to all chat.

PCM- thinking of you. I am so there with you! I felt SO stupid doing a test last night as I know it wouldn't be positive, but still... and now am torturing myself that maybe I shouldn't have started back on the clomid! Stupid as I am sure I would have other symptoms if I were PG. I did last time. Cheer up definitely in order. I'm giong to make those Nigella Lawson chocolate pots! You can have some!

Coriander73 · 11/04/2007 16:03

Thinking of you PCM! xxxx

pussycatmomma · 11/04/2007 15:59

lulu are you going to be taking the same 50mg or upping it to 100mg? did you get a positive result re ovulation in the end or not? cd25 here......and i stupidly did a test, one that was just lurking on its singledom in the back of the bathroom drawer....needless to say completely bfn
Now torturing myself with the Why oh Why oh Why oh Why in the Lords name did I pee on the bloody stick
Feel so disappointed but at the same time in back of my silly brain, trying to tell myself it was too early to test.
I too feel all hope fast draining away!!
Gosh we could all do with a cheer up couldnt we!

I finally have the Internet again! Yay! Thanks for all your messages. I ended up not getting the prescription, but a friend prescribed it to me privately. So I was really fretting as I did wonder if it were not really AF as it was so early and light. I had a bleed right before I found out I was pregnant last time, but that was like a gush of blood and only lasted a couple of hours. OK- TMI... but this one was just light and brown day 1, a bit heavier but brown day 2, then heavy and red day 3 then light and brown for another day. I don't think it would last that long- do you? I took a PG test and it was neg. no surprise there. But it has made me a bit anxious. All that positivity I had when I took the first cycle is gone out the window.

I decided to start on the clomid last night. I did consider not taking it and giving it a rest this month- I'm so confused!

coggy · 10/04/2007 22:13

.......a hard 2WW for you no doubt this month.....exciting too though.
I really, really, REALLY hope it works for you.
