Just a quick one on OPKs. I used them the month we conceived - boots own brand. I've attached the picture as I was able to pin down exactly when I ovulated. I didn't look out for ovulation "symptoms" as my body's weird anyway. And one 'ovulation symptom' could easily be something else.

Anyway, they worked for me and as you can see I ovulated somewhere around 16-17th of that month. We DTD a lot anyway, but on those days I think we did it twice a day!

Guys has anyone ever used OPKs from savers. I had two days ewcm on Friday & Saturday and Ovia says most fertile day is today however been using OPKs since Saturday & no hint of a line!! I'll be miffed it my cycle has gone awry as DH and I dtd Friday, Saturday & today (tried yesterday but pressure got the best of us & we were just going through motions with nothing achieved).

ttcnovice · 17/04/2017 14:39

Pibbee I think they're really confusing too! I think they work great when they (or your body!) does exactly what you expect, but as we know that's never quite the case! I'll keep you updated with what happens with mine this month - I think if I don't get a peak again and just day after day of high then I might not use them next month!

Pibbee · 17/04/2017 13:17

Yeah exactly @ttc I don't understand it either. But that same day I had what I thought must be ovulation pains as well as ewcm so I came to the conclusion that the 'detecting a rise in hormone level' might not be right (even though that's what the instruction says as to how the test works Hmm) and instead it just detects high levels! But how would it know what's 'high' for me if it didn't have some sort of baseline to compare to?!

Anyway who knows. Last time I started on cd8 and got the flashing smily on cd10, and this time I started on cd6 and got the smily again 2 days later on cd8.

All this is just evidence of the fact that it seems my cycles, whilst not completely all over the place, are not quite regular. I'm glad I started with the sticks on cd6 now (not sure what prompted me to do that as thought it was well early....I think I was just bored and fancied peeing on something ha) as if I'd started on cd8 or 9 I may well have missed out. Wondering now if it always (apart from my random instant smily that time) starts with blank circle and then builds up?! So if I had only just started today, would it have been a blank circle ie setting the baseline?!

Man these things are confusing!

ttcnovice · 17/04/2017 13:08

Pibbee that's strange isn't it! Like you I thought from reading up on them that they detect an increase from your baseline levels. Obviously can't be the case if it gave you the peak reading straight away though Confused. Unless it's the rise in oestrogen levels that it detects away from the baseline (to give a "high" reading), but with the LH surge (for the "peak") it would detect that independently?

Pibbee · 17/04/2017 12:24

*spent ages reading up, that was meant to say....

Ha yes cycle day twins! Although my cycles seem to alternate between 25 or so days and about 30 days so who knows how long this one will be!

Pibbee · 17/04/2017 12:22

@ttcnovice the first time I ever peed on one of those CB sticks I got a solid smily (it was CD16). So whilst I'd thought that the first one would always be a blank circle, I found that not to be the case! I spent reading up trying to find out whether it works by determining the levels of hormones, or by detecting an increase on the levels of hormones. I had thought the latter but then my instant-solid smily would suggest otherwise...

ttcnovice · 17/04/2017 11:46

Flat glad to see you're making the most of your honeymoon! How amazing would a honeymoon baby be?! I'm always really jealous of people who say they had one!

Pibbee yay for DTD on a flashing smiley day! Just think, that could be "the one" 🤞🏼

Hi littleemma1 welcome Smile. I'm another one who doesn't have any experience with long cycles sorry! But I hope you get some answers from the ultrasound, best of luck for it!

As for me I'm on CD8 here (cycle day buddies Pibbee Grin) so have just started on my CB OPKs again today. "Low" reading (empty circle) as expected on the first day as it establishes your baseline levels apparently! Already started DTD yesterday, but we're going to try for every other day instead of every day this cycle, in case it helps to let the sperm regenerate more! Plus I was knackered the last few cycles of every day Grin.

littleemma1 · 17/04/2017 10:29

Ultrasound is booked in for 25th (next Tuesday!). I don't mind the irregular cycles but the pain I've been in for 3 weeks now is becoming unbearable 😣 Xx

Pibbee · 17/04/2017 10:27

Hi all!

@ttcnovice thank you for that Easter fact! Hopefully it will mean good luck for us all!

@Flatwhite sounds like you are having a great time! I love San Fran. Good to make the most of being on honeymoon hey ;) no idea about the random twinges, could mean early ov or could just be one of those things! I take it you didn't take Opk sticks with you (not sure I'd want to be faffing about with those on holiday!Grin)

Hi @littleemma welcome! Smile when do you have your ultrasound? Hope that goes well. I'm no expert but the long/irregular cycles may well just be your body sorting itself out after the pill.

As for me, I am declaring myself officially In With A Chance this month after this morning - me and DP DTD, I'm only on CD8 and so thought am not in the FW window yet, but I did a CB OPK after and fully expected to see a blank circle but I was very pleased to see a flashing smily! Hooray! So have got at least one "qualifying DTD" (Grin) in if nothing else, which is a marked improvement on our total failure to manage any last month!!

littleemma1 · 17/04/2017 09:31

Hi all, Can I jump into this one?
I'm now CD 52 with no AF.
Since coming off pill in December 2016 having been on it for 11 years, had my usual withdrawal bleed and then 2 cycles since then, 1st was 47 days and 2nd was 35 days long.
I'm now 16 days late for my projected AF based on ovulation (peak OPK), have had negative urine and blood pregnancy tests from GP now so I'm being sent for an ultrasound (were technically not TTC ATM and only using the withdrawal method hence the tests recommended by the GP)
I have bad bad cramp pains like period pains both in my lower abdomen and back but no other sign of AF. Really hope there's no serious underlying issue when I go for the scan as will be starting to officially TTC soon. What are your stories please? xxx

Flatwhite31 · 17/04/2017 02:41

Hello from San Francisco ladies! I'm currently in my fertile week, and taking advantage of being on honeymoon! Wink The only thing is, I'm now wondering if I ovulated early, as I had twinges on my left side a few days ago, but stupidly didn't think anything of it, and we've DTD after the twinges are gone! My libido has gone through the roof the past two days! Have read that's also a sign of ov. Will just have to wait and see. Will keep DTD until end of fertile window and wait. Hope you're all well. X

ttcnovice · 16/04/2017 10:57

Happy Easter all Smile just saw this online so thought I'd share...

"Easter was originally the celebration of Ishtar, the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of fertility and sex."

Let's hope it brings us all luck for some January 2018 babies! 🤞🏼

Kitcaty · 16/04/2017 10:49

Thanks girls, I'll let you know how I get on. On CD15 today and today and yesterday no LH surge detected. The app I'm using reckons ovulation is next Saturday but my last few cycles have been a bit all over the place so it's been hard trying to guess.
Misty, just caught up on what you've been going through, I'm so sorry :( glad you are feeling better and have a positive outlook.
It's cycle 5 for me and I'm getting a bit down that it's not happened yet. We saw our friends last weekend and they were telling us it took them two weeks to conceive after deciding to try! Their daughter is 6 months now and beautiful. It's a weird feeling this mixture of happiness and jealously.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Twistedsister7 · 15/04/2017 19:44

Sorry for all who got AF!

I am now on day 2 of fw according to Ovia and seeing ewcm. DH & I did the deed both days. I love the long weekends!!

Got some cheap OPKs from savers but bit early to test (didn't stop me though did it).

Btw there is bloody pregnancies & newborns everywhere!! A guy at work has a 6 months old, two ladies just became nannys & a friend gave birth!! Everyone is now outwardly asking me if we are trying. The subject is everywhere!!

How is everyone at what stages are you at?

Pibbee · 15/04/2017 12:29

@mama sorry about AF!

@jellybean did your DH swap shifts?

Pibbee · 15/04/2017 12:28

Hi all! Happy easter! @Misty glad you are feeling better and are recovering OK.

@Kit I am just coming onto third cycle of the CB ones, first cycle I started too late and got the solid smily straight away, last cycle I started earlier and got a flashing smily CD10 followed by solid smily CD12. They seem pretty good so far!

Today I randomly peed on one for no reason at all given that it's CD6 - but my last cycle was only 25 days for some reason so was wondering if I might be in some sort of early ovulation zone but seems not.

Annoyingly, because my last cycle was 5 days shorter than the previous one, I think my FW will be next week rather than in a couple of weeks' time when me and DP will be away! Not that I booked the trip with FW in mind tbh but it would have been a nice added bonus!

Mamaready · 15/04/2017 12:10

kit * I have used them for a about a year now and the odd month I haven't appeared to ovulate but for the most months, they detect ovulation. Usually around 3 days high and then 1 peak.

misty its good that you're feeling better physically and mentally. I'm sure the scan will be clear so you can start to move on in your own time.

Well AF arrive yesterday for me! Oh well, onto cycle 2! Please let April be the month for us all 🙏

MistyBxx · 14/04/2017 21:37

Hey girlies hope you're all well.
I'm feeling ok. Bleeding has nearly all stopped now. Literally spotting. And I haven't had any pains since last Sunday. Can't wait for my scan on Tuesday which I'm hoping is going to confirm everything is cleared out.
Been going through my dates and this week is my 4th week of knowing my pregnancy is over. It's so weird, I only knew I was pregnant for 3 weeks before I went for the first scan which showed no baby and I've been bleeding for 3. That exciting bfp morning feels like a lifetime ago 😳 can't wait for that feeling again though 😍
Feeling loads better in myself. Even watching OBEM 😂 sounds crazy but I've always loved that programme, doesn't make me feel sad, it fascinates and amazes me about how our lives begin and how we give life, it's lovely 😊
How's everything feeling?

ttcnovice · 14/04/2017 18:47

Hi again Kit Smile I've used them for 3 cycles now. I thought they were great the first month, got my peak (albeit quite early) fine, but then haven't had one the last two cycles. Obviously this could just be that I'm not ovulating or that I'm missing my LH surge though so I wouldn't say it's a reflection on the OPKs themselves! I'll be interested to see how you get on with them this month Smile best of luck!

Kitcaty · 14/04/2017 17:35

Hi all. I was here a couple of months ago but have had some time away as was trying the "it might happen if we give up thinking about getting pregnant" thing. But still no luck yet :(. I've had irregular cycles since coming off the pill last year, ranging from 31 to 41 days. We're trying OPKS this month, starting tomorrow with the Clear Blue smileys. Was just wondering if anyone else has tried these yet and how reliable they are?

charl19 · 12/04/2017 19:49

Mama sounds promising, are you thinking of testing?

Sorry always have to do 2 posts cos can't keep up with who says what haha!

charl19 · 12/04/2017 19:48

Flatwhite that looks incredible!! Hope you have the best time! Smile

Misty I Actually laughed out loud about getting back on the horse, I'm sure our DHs would love to be known as stallions lmao😂😂

Sorry to everyone with AF we seem to all be synced tho lol! FlowersMine started properly on Sunday too, the first one since MC so think will count that as CD1...

Meanwhile one of hubby's sisters told us at the weekend she's 4-5 weeks pg! I was totally devastated if I'm honest, and hubby was pretty gutted too after everything that's happened! I know I should be happy for her but can't help feeling upset! Talk about bad timing!! Our time will come tho I'm sure eh! ConfusedSad

FX for all of us this month!! Here we go again ladies...Grin

Millie1994 · 12/04/2017 17:08

AF arrived for me yesterday - feel like it is a reset and can actually count this as a proper cycle now! Quite excited to really be able to start properly ttc.

@JellyBean89 how was your implant removal? Mine was so bruised for the first two weeks - it horrified my mum lol! The implant worked pretty well for me, think I was quite lucky there as my friend had awful symptoms including constant bleeding :(. Not good about your OH! So frustrating when things like that happen. My OH does shift work 6am-2pm one week and then 2pm - 10pm the next. Not bad but I am so knackered when he is on lates that even if I manage to stay awake for when he gets in I must admit I do struggle getting the energy to DTD lol

@Mamarady how strange! Do you have any symptoms of AF or pregnancy? Are you going to take another test in a couple of days in case you are. Fingers crossed for you!

@MistyBxx really good to hear you are feeling better x
