Getting ready for baby challenge

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Wiggley maybe you should do another test? (Exciting!)

Springflower3 · 29/12/2016 13:38

How does the BTT work?

Wiggley are you starting to try now or trying to wait till July?

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 13:31

I've just ordered a BTT thermometer! Excited to start tracking correctly now. Still no sign of AF, now 5 days late Angry so frustrating. Just want a fresh new cycle so I can start working out what's going on. I went out for a lovely walk last night with DP and he said "ooohhh not long now until we will have a little one to take with us!" I'll be shocked if we last until July Grin

Fredthefrog · 29/12/2016 13:12

I am a long time lurker like many of you. We are waiting until after our honey moon in April to ttc but I am excited about it and really pleased to find some other people in the same boat.
Planning to sort out my eating habits and have downloaded the ovia app to get some ideas about my cycle.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 10:12

Confused I don't want to spend loads on refills, so as I have enough for 2 cycles April will be the trial one and May will hopefully be the successful one! From March we will just be randomly shagging though Grin as we would be ok with that as the earliest. For now "being careful" Blush and just waiting for AF so I can start to figure out my cycle using Ovia.

Ssh it is so tough I know there is no right time but I'm trying to have the right setup at work before I go off and everything so I feel ok about that I'm just surprised that the physical side of it is freaking me out a bit. Especially as I've done it before with no issues, easy birth etc. But that was nearly 12 years ago..

Springflower3 · 29/12/2016 10:07

Hi ladies! Is it ok to join? I just married at start of December and me and dh have decided to try! Stopped the pill last night (mini pill) so I have literally no idea what to expect! My daughter was a complete surprise so there was no trying! I need advice. Also the motivation to stay in good shape xx

busyrascal · 29/12/2016 09:27

Can I join please? After 3 years of telling dh that I feel like we're not done yet and that I'd like another baby, this morning he has finally said that he's up for trying. I'm over the moon obviously!

We have dd1(6yo) and dd2(4yo) who both have birthdays in November so we'd quite like to avoid another November birthday and are therefore wary of diving straight in. I know it may take longer this time (I'm 34) but we conceived immediately both times previously.

confusedat23 · 29/12/2016 09:17

Wiggley it annoys me too! If they can afford to put the thing in the sale for 40% lower then surely they could afford to drop the price to something slightly more reasonable! Its mainly the refill packs i find expensive though so it is always costing you money

Ssh I think you have done the right thing tbh and just make sure you look for as much help as you can get from family etc the thing about timing is I remember a few years back my dad being overly emotional admitting that he thinks they waited too long to have their children and him telling me not to wait because it never works out great financially but everyone just pulls together

Hb I have Ovia but I am not the biggest fan of it so far! I am pretty sure it is well out with my cycles so I'm going to OPK this month to try and give it a helping hand

Grumpy are you going to do a trial month of CBFM to get your info pre loaded or just going straight to TTC in March?

Xxx

Sshsecretenclosed · 29/12/2016 09:07

I'm a control freak too grumpy and I guess I'm right out of my comfort zone here too!!! Also trying to finish an Ou degree in the next five months as well but feel like I just keep putting ttc off and that's what we really want. Oh my - it's so hard being a woman!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 06:35

I have to admit I'm feeling quite a bit of anxiety about actually being pregnant which I didn't have the first time .. like once it's in there you are committed to getting it out the hard way argh! Panic panic. But I am a control freak so this is probably normal.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 06:34

Hb same here! Logging data every day since Xmas eve although only been off the pill 3 days.. and not actively TTC until start of march (a march-June conception window would be ok). Then I realised that's only 8 weeks away wow! Plan to use the CBFM on the April and May cycles to maximise our chances.

Been working out a lot (yoga and spin classes) but that's quite normal for me.. I have same issue as in I have to watch food otherwise I get podgy easily despite all the exercise! Curse of being over 30.

HbH04 · 28/12/2016 23:33

wiggley I gym/run 2-3 times a week, however I could do this every single day but it doesn't make a blind bit of difference if my eating isn't on good form... & obvs right now it isn't! 2nd Jan I'm sorting that out!!

I'm getting obsessed before I've even started... Just downloaded Ovia app & started inputting things!! (I blame my DH, He's on nights and not here to keep me amused/out of trouble!!) so much for a casual approach! Bet I'm not the only one....?!

Sshsecretenclosed · 28/12/2016 15:18

Hi all!! All v exciting. Good to hear others worry wbout money too. I just am weighing up, just stopping this pill and going for it!

Wiggleyfingers · 28/12/2016 14:16

Hi to all new posters!! Who knew there were so many lurkers around?!

Confused I agree about the fertility monitor, after a bit of research I'm not sure it is worth the price. It annoys me so much that companies price all things ttc so high! Even pregnancy tests are so expensive for how cheap they can be made. (Sorry, rant over!)

Hb I am so impressed at you attempting the gym! That is quite an achievement, all I've managed is to eat all of the Christmas leftovers. Are you already a regular gym goer? I think I'm going to start skipping for short bursts every day, could even fit that in before work if I'm really on it! I live on a steep hill so running is never fun.

Sh I also work in school so hoping to time it well to finish at the end of a half term, wouldn't that be lovely! I know it's not that easy though, so I'll take whatever I can get!

confusedat23 · 28/12/2016 11:48

This board is so active its really hard to keep up! Lol

grumpy we have decided against CBFM because of how expensive the refills are especially if you want a trial run the cycle before! DH has now brought it forward to May so no Christmas baby! Lol. Also about the space can you fit a cot in your bedroom? If so you are good till 18months anyway!

Ssh my DH earns £18000 so i understand but we have just planned ahead

Evie i'll have to look at the Reddit have you tested yet? I've got fx for a BFP!! Im still confused about BFN but i'm gonna so one last test 2weeks after last possible concieved date and if BFN just going to forget and move on!

Hello to smu and bosh

hb i know i am being silly about timings I just have DH birthday 10 days after X-mas so its a super expensive time already lol. Also well done on going to the gym! Dw abour the Jellybabies as long as you are gyming you are getting healthier!

Theres ive got a serious type of Anaemia and i have to take 5mg of Folic acid and Iron daily and i was told to take them in the morning with Orange juice as the Vitamin C should stop that

Xxx

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 28/12/2016 08:39

Hello newbies! Hope everyone is well. So exciting that we have a few folk already TTC.

Interesting chat re maternity packages. We are trying to save up for a house atm and don't have much spare cash so hoping maternity pay won't put a big dent in that. My work are currently redrafting our package so waiting to see what the new one is like.

Agree with others that there's never a good time and you never really have enough cash!

On the pre-conception vitamins - do they make you nauseous? I saw that they need to be taken after a meal.

Redpony how long did it take for AF to come back after you stopped taking Cerelle?

Sshsecretenclosed · 27/12/2016 22:13

smu have you started trying?!

smu06set · 27/12/2016 21:49

ssh thats where i was a few months ago, now im thinking i dont want to wait for more hypothetical money any more! We can manage, thats enough, ive never been a fancy clothes or holidays girl so I wont miss it Smile

HbH04 · 27/12/2016 21:46

Hello new crew! What an exciting year 2017 is going to be!

confused lovely to hear that your DH is even more on board now & you might bring your start line forward! There are so many months that wouldn't be ideal for a birthday, but just from trawling the conception threads & reading about difficulties and such small windows of possibilities, you can't narrow it down too much!

Have vaguely looked for a Zika blood test, I saw one at a private clinic which could be an option. I might ask my sister'S DP for some advice, he's a Dr.

Hit the gym today but kind of offset it with a whole packet of jelly babies this eve! WHERE ARE YOU WILLPOWER????!

Sshsecretenclosed · 27/12/2016 21:42

Just about smu. Am I being romantic to think, we will just manage?!?!

smu06set · 27/12/2016 21:34

ssh on just your oh salary can you cover rent/mortgage, bills, food, petrol? If so then yes stop worrying Smile

EvieSparkles0x · 27/12/2016 21:32

You'll all get by :) We did just fine with an unplanned first pregnancy, but I work for the government so also got 6 months full pay. I was able to take 14 months off with DD but only plan on taking 9-12 with this one. Am going crazy with planning too! Also luckily as DD is only 15 months we still have tons of baby stuff including all of the big things, plus if it's a girl we have loooads of gorgeous clothes. So excited to get hoarding Grin

Sshsecretenclosed · 27/12/2016 21:12

So that's good right?! Should I stop worrying as much?!? Haha

smu06set · 27/12/2016 20:55

ssh support staff in the school are covered by local gov terms (academy means they could have changed them but its a legal nightmare so unlikely) - google local government green book. It also covers sick pay so if you know what sick pay you get you can compare to see if the policies are in line. If its green book its around 6 weeks 90% then 12 weeks half pay then 18 weeks smp. Way better than a lot of private sector jobs!
