Getting ready for baby challenge

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Welcome zoe

I'm on CD6, done with AF now (first proper one post pill - wasn't nearly as bad as anticipated)

I maaaaaaaay have just ordered a Basel body thermometer from amazon while eating my breakfast!! How am I getting obsessed already before we've even started! I'm almost resenting having to go on my zika infested honeymoon!

We're having a New Years party tomo & the starvation starts after that!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/12/2016 07:24

Some brown spotting yesterday so maybe things are starting to happen !! (had no periods on cerazette for many years, took last pill on 26th)

Yes timing is important for me as i can only take 6 months off work due to nature of my job and I have SAD so would really prefer not to be home alone over winter. September is a busy time at work too so in a super ideal world I would be back at work by then. But I know things don't always go according to plan! However have bought the CBFM and will track cycles to give us the best chance. We'll actively start trying in march through June.

ZoeNotAMumYet · 30/12/2016 00:18

Hello! Can I join? Just started TTC #1 and planning to improve my fitness and diet! My weight is fine but I am rather unfit! And now post christmas indulgence full of CakeCakeCakeXmas Confused

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 23:52

Confused yes I found EWCM on CD16 and then had ovulation pains on CD17 so I guess that makes sense for a slightly longer cycle. AF finally arrived tonight WOOHOO! Ready to start again. Where is everyone else in their cycle?

Anna2006 · 29/12/2016 23:14

Confused temping just seems like a natural habit to me now. I set my alarm for 7.15am every morning an take my temperature before I get up for work. Yes believe it does have to be after like 3 hours of interrupted sleep. Occasionally I might have an odd night but in general it's okay an you can see a clear picture after a month of tempatures.

It always confirms my ovulation an then I know the day my AF will come and my temp drops below my cover line. So it's good as no guess work lol.

confusedat23 · 29/12/2016 23:12

Wiggley I must admit I am quite a wet (ooerr) person down there and I have fake nails which probably does make it easier! Have you seen anything that resembles CM yet?

Also... his (pictured) looks like my CD10 stick! Loool! Hmm

I'm going to meal plan nice healthy options for Jan and start trimming the fat then! Terrified to weigh myself but will post the gorey results on mon and use that to shame-- motivate me!

Confused I've been checking mine recently but never manage to reach my cervix, I will try on the toilet. Thanks for the tip!
I'm also intrigued to find out if your DH is ovulating...Send us a picture with the result!

confusedat23 · 29/12/2016 22:26

Ahahaha thanks HB! Its amazing I never missed a contraceptive pill to be honest! Lol

Anna how do you find temping? I don't sleep regularly enough each night to get a good reading... i'm sure I read somewhere it had to be after 4 hours unbroken sleep

Wiggley without seeming gross I can check my CM very easily just sitting on the loo... has anyone else checked theirs yet?

Sorry Grumpy you have probably mentioned this but is timing uber important for you?... i know i said no Xmas baby but as me and DH seem incapable at using condoms its anyones guess really! Lol

So the Confused household reached new highs of oddness... my ever so supporting DH has just POAS OPK Grin the geek in me is actually really interested in seeing what happens looool

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 19:57

Confused yes my plan B is to wait a few more months then try again the following year but as long as we conceive by mid June latest (I went on a due date calculator lol!) it seems baby will be here by march 2018! And I'm ok with it being a month or two earlier than that too.

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 19:37

I have just been reading about checking cervical mucus and what it means when I can across this:
"The easiest positions for most women would be sitting on the toilet, one foot up on the toilet or bathtub, or squatting. If you have trouble reaching, you can ask your partner to check for you."
It made me laugh so much. Can you imagine asking your DP to do this every day?! What would be their response?! I love my DP endlessly but if he asked me to check his mucus daily I think I'd be speechless Grin

Anna2006 · 29/12/2016 19:19

Thanks ladies for all your well wishers! Let's hope the new year brings me some luck as the past one has been a bit of a shocker! It's all an emotional journey whatever the outcome.

Confused I started tracking my cycle in January. We were moving house in March and planned to start TTC in the summer. So wanted to chart for a few months and do temps to confirm I ovulated and if I followed a set cycle. Which I did and was useful to know. Recommend doing it if anyone feels like there not sure on their cycle.

HbH04 · 29/12/2016 18:36

Thanks for your lovely words Anna , so nice to have some encouragement from someone slightly further along the road! FX for your BFP & a happy and healthy pregnancy soon x x

Fab you've got the go ahead confused REMEMBER YOUR PILLS... sounds like it's even more important to you than the rest of us!

confusedat23 · 29/12/2016 18:19

Hello to all the newbies waves

Grumpy I completely get you! Have you got a plan B incase May doesn't happen?... I am totally also thinking about a babymoon! How nice would it be to get one more holiday in before DC arrives!

I think it's lovely Wiggley that you and DP are talking like that! I'm sorry about AF messing you about though. The wedding thing is a pain what is your dress like?

Anna Sorry for your loss Flowers also i just want to say i know it can sound really selfish about the due date and month thing but we are all pre TTCers and we all know that realistically we would be happy to
Be blessed with a baby no matter
What time of year! I have my fx'd that you will get your BFP asap because you deserve it! Did you start charting before TTC?

So i'm not sure if I mentioned I had doc appt today but got the all clear to start TTC from March soonest and a stern talking to about making sure I take my Iron and Folic Acid tablets (even though they effectively help keep me alive i am so rubbish at remembering them!) they will just really monitor me up until 12 weeksish as to make sure the bubs doesnt have any Neural Tube Defects... now I just need to crack on and make one! Lol

Xxx

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 16:02

Spring working out is such a habit for me, trick is to make it part of your routine. Also I'm terrified of being a whale again (put on 3 stone and had moon face while pregnant with DD) so I want to start from a low base!

Wiggley omg gonna start looking at due date calcs now!

Anna thanks for the reminder - sorry for your loss. I'll be glad if everything still works for me, no matter when it happens. I suffer from pretty bad SAD though hence the preference not to be home alone over winter.

Anna2006 · 29/12/2016 15:52

Yes exactly! Just dtd as much as you can but enjoy it and the experience! We will all get our BFP's when it is intended for us to get them. Everything happens for a reason. An we have to believe. So don't stress and fret, it will come when the time is right 😊

Fredthefrog · 29/12/2016 15:45

It sounds like you have had a hard time Anna, I'm so sorry. As a teacher i was thinking about when would be good to have a baby but you are right to just focus on getting pregnant and what will be will be. Hope you get good news soon.

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 15:33

Anna so sorry to hear about your loss. I can't even imagine what you've been through but thank you for the advice! It's so easy to doubt yourself on timings etc but I read something recently which said "Never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about." That really touched me as it's so easy to worry when making such a huge life decision. I hope you get your BFP soon. I have everything crossed for you!

Sshsecretenclosed · 29/12/2016 15:09

Anna I love your thoughts and advice. Found them very valuable. Best to just crack on with DTD hey?! Xxx

Anna2006 · 29/12/2016 14:52

Hello ladies

I've just read through your thread and it made me have a big smile to see so many of you so excited for what is to come!

DH and I are TTC#1. We were successful on first go but unfortunately suffered a mc at 13 weeks so we are back on it again!

Just some advise for ladies worrying about money etc and avoiding certain months due to xmas and birthdays. You will never be financially ready , sure there maybe really bad timing (I found out I was being made redundant when I was pregnant) but whatever the situation you will manage! And try not to worry and obsess over wanting babies in certain months. I thought that originally (wanted a summer baby) and was due in April and was very pleased with that!! But after everything that has happened realising that life doesn't go to plan ever - I'm happy for any baby at any time! Even if that means a Christmas one! Haha I must be desperate!

I use OPKs and do BBT and chart every month. I find it so useful and tbh think that is why we fell so quickly the first time! Not had any luck so far but hoping it won't be long.

Good luck & enjoy!

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 14:17

We could!! Too exciting! Is anyone else obsessed with looking at due date calculators? I love it Smile There's also a website that predicts your future periods (which is maybe taking it a bit too far)

Springflower3 · 29/12/2016 14:03

well you could always start 3 months before therefore at worse you are 3 months gone and maybe wont be too big?? It's so hard not to start once the decision is made.... like we wanted to be married a year before we started but that plan has went out the window!!

Grumpy I just can't get the motivation because I'm still in the 'meh I will wait to january' mode!! How are you motivated!!

Wiggleyfingers · 29/12/2016 13:55

Spring we are waiting until July. I think if we weren't marrying in August then we would start now but I can't afford not to fit in my wedding dress! Grin The temping helps to predict when you are ovulating, I'm a bit worried about waking up DP each morning as it beeps loudly when it has taken your temperature. Blush I could imagine that would get annoying quickly if you're trying to sleep!
Grumpy good work on the spin class! I'm interested in trying that but heard it can be pretty horrific! I have just discovered PopSugarTv workouts on YouTube. They are quite cheesy but really good for beginners. This morning I did a jumping one but have just ruined it by having tea and biscuits! I've got to stop snacking! Brew

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 13:48

How is everyone's food and exercise regimes coming along? I just did a spin class and been eating healthy but I did have a beer last night and a packet of maltesers this morning...

We are talking about going on holiday in October so DH randomly emailed me asking when I would be restricted from flying - I was like WTH are you talking about and then I realised there is a chance I could be 7 or 8 months by then! You are allowed to fly until when? 36 weeks? DD was born at 35+5 so I'm a bit Confused

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/12/2016 13:43
