Don't know what I expect anyone to say or do but just need to put this in words for my own sanity!

Please forgive me if this is a ramble but I've got so much stuff going round my head at the moment I just needed to spill it out somewhere.
DH and I have been ttc no.2 since January and to be honest I wasn't expecting it to happen soon, was expecting it to take a few cycles. Long story short, did a pregnancy test yesterday and got a faint positive line, but been having cramps for some time and spots of blood. AF is around 4 days late. I've had flu for a week and have taken all manner of cold medications that say you shouldn't take them if pregnant, plus Dd has chicken pox (isn't this harmful in early pregnancy?). Now I'm quite resigned to the fact that, if I was pregnant, then I'm probably likely to miscarry but what's bugging me is the fact my body won't make up it's mind! If AF is going to start I just wish it would I feel like I'm hanging in the balance. Don't want to do another test incase it confirms and says not preganant, even though I'd be surprised if I still was, does that make any sense?! Sorry - end of spouting

fp, thank you for that link, I've posted on the thread. Poor Mrsmc sounds like she's having a horrible time. Hopefully we can support each other a little bit. Having to take tomorrow off for the scan as no one at work knows, based on any results or whatever they can tell me from the scan depends on if I tell work or not - feel a fraud just sat here having told them I've got a vile bug.

Not a problem - it's horrid - esp becuase it so often happens when you're too early to really want to tell many people in rl

He didn't tell me to do anyhthing in particular fp, just asks each time I visit if I've had more bleeding and up to tonight, the answer has been no. Just been to the loo again and no ore blood but these horrible cramps are just so depressing. I want to cry.

Oh no, Milly - sorry to hear that - it's so frustrating isn't it, you just can NOT relax into the pg. I didn't realise how hard I found ds's pg until I had a (relatively) bleed-free one with dd... I basically spent 9 mths not wanting to go to the loo...
Light pink's not as bad as red, remember.
What did they tell you to do if you bled again? Do you have to go back to epu or to the docs? (epu got to the stage where they told me not to come back again unless I lost lots of red blood - think they'd had enough of me )

Ok, that appears to have been a case of 'famous last words' Just had some light pink bleeding and I have period style cramps. I'm back to just wishing my body would make its mind up.

Thank you so much for your message fionap. The cramping seems to have subsided a little (seems worse if I've spent all day on my feet)and I'venot had any more spotting. I'm currently in the panic phase of 'I have no symptoms therefore am I really pregnant?' I'd forgotten how stressful this pregnancy lark was! Meeting the midwife in a couple of weeks - I'm still hoping for an early scan if possible. I'm so pleased to hear a really positive story

Read all the messages! I had cramps, spotting everything in early pregnancy with all three of my kids! Also had strong results but in the end only single babies. the strong result means the pregnancy is more likely to survive and be strong. Its women who dont have that strong reaction who are more likely to lose the baby! I wish you so so well! I always spent the first three weeks of each pregnancy convinced I was abpout to lose it! Lie down put feet up if you are able and look after number 1! I have 3 kids now, the first was 9 lbs 4 oz, the second a whopping 11lbs 8 1/2oz and the last a tiny 5 lbs! So I know all extremes!
I wish you all the luck in the world and just know you are normal! the symptoms are felt by more women than you know!!!

35 days = five weeks so that is possible! (pregnancies are counted from first day of last period not day of conception) (apologies if you already knew this)

My house isn't big enough for the child I've got let alone any more than one extra!!!
Think I remember having dull period aches with Dd so hpefully not too worrying. The slight bleeding earlier on concerns me but will ask Dr to see if he can put my mind at rest on Thursday.
He he he, just thought, my boss is going to be hopping mad!!

So glad all seems to be settling down (sort of!!)
I think dull period aches are normal, but then my pgs aren't normal so may not be best person to ask!

Oh. My. God. Duchesse don't say things like that!!!!! Think DH would pass out if we were talking multiples. Think I'm going to stress how worried I am about the earlier bleeding and hope they send me for an early scan. Now I've just got to try and remember all those things I'm not supposed to eat when pregnant!

I have one word: Multiples. That's how the Hcg levels could be high. Also, some singleton pregancies have naturally high levels of Hcg. Wait till the scan- in fact, ask for a scan- if you really are 5-6 weeks, they should be able to get a good idea of gestational age in about 10-12 days' time. Good luck.

Ok, shock of shocks, the doctor rang me today and he'd already had the test results back. The sample showed I am definitely pg and the blood test showed HCG levels that would suggest I was 5 or 6 weeks already How on earth is that possible, I swear I had my last AF 35 days ago?! DH in a state of shock. Had no more bleeding of any significance but still have dull period type aches, is this normal?

The cold medicines (lemsip, beecham's etc) are the most worrying in that list, more specifically the decongestants. Chicken pox should be fine if you're already had it. It's more dangerous late in pregnancy. German measles is the one you want to watch out for early in pregnancy. I suggest you visit your GP and take the medicine packet with you. Good luck.

Just got back from seeing a Dr. Very nice man who seemed to think I'd go hysterical when he told me it was too early to 'do' anything! He said with bleeding and cramps it would be a 50 / 50 chance I'd miscarry and he's booked me in for a blood test on Monday, I've got to take a urinary sample too, going back to see him later in the week. He said I've just got to sit it out and I know this is all I can do, but these period aches are quite persistant now . He also said I'd probably never have known I was pregnant if I hadn't done the test, I'm only @ 5 days late afterall and my cycle is erratic at the best of times. I hate waiting though.

MillyM - please speak to GP's receptionist if you are experiencing anymore cramping/pain - I'm sure they will get you an appointment with your GP. Its a good sign that your pregnancy test line has gone from a weak blue line to a strong blue line - this means your HCG's must be rising. Good luck x

MillyM - ring NHS Direct - they will be able to talk you through things AND tell you the nearest EPU - seriously, they are lovely and very supportive.

As I remember it, they told me that if you have a bleed it will take a while for all the blood to clear out, so to speak. You'll probably find you see more blood in the mornings/after l;ying or sitting down for a while. If its not bright red, its not a fresh loss.

And while your dh is right - there is very little they can do for you at this stage - but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be useful for both of you to know what's going on. And (fingers crossed!!) seeing a little heartbeat is always a nice thing

Thank you YM, yes, Limbo covers this feeling perfectly! My last pregnancy had none of this you see, it's all a bit new and scary for me.
Tamum, yes, I've had chicken pox so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. x
