Thought I would create a fresh thread as the original had been going since Feb. This is for anyone TTC #1, a bit of moral support as we all attempt to embark on the scary journey that is parenthood! Join us if you are a mix of terrified and excited, don't really know what you're doing yet and hadn't heard of CM before you started reading Mumsnet!!

Fuzz yeah we are just going to get on with it! I have got a cycle tracking app but obviously no data to start with so kind of in the loop. I wondered if doing OPKs so early was a bit too much?

I also am in much need of mum/ttc friends I can talk to.

Also your name is literally my life lol.

hi springroll you sound just like me! I have no idea what my cycle is now and worried about where to start

Spingroll16 · 03/06/2016 11:41

Hi all! :)

May I join please?

Im 21,
TTC #1
No idea of cycles or anything, just come off the implant on Tuesday and we are just DTD as often as possible!

The implant stopped my periods totally, so not sure what is going to happen here? If anyone could explain I'd be very grateful :)

fuzzinmybrain · 03/06/2016 11:37

Hi busy, welcome! I had two implants for a total of six years, then went on the pill for about six months and been off it since Jan. Luckily my cycles regulated pretty much straight away after the first month's withdrawal bleed. Are you using TTC/cycle tracking apps to monitor your cycle?

Sorry you feel lonely with your new TTC journey. I try to just focus on myself and my relationship. It's been quite isolating and I can't really talk to my friends either, but I'm hoping to broaden my friend circle when I (hopefully) get pregnant..

BusyNothings · 03/06/2016 10:30

Hi can I join? I'm sort of loitering on a couple of the other ttc threads but so out of my depth and confused?

age - 26
Ttc #1
Sort of pre-cycle? Just had second my implant out after five years with no periods and not a clue what is going on. So confused.

But I relate a lot to what rosey and fuzz were saying. I'm the first in my small/tiny/non-existent friend group to be ttc and I feel really kind of lonely and lost =[

fuzzinmybrain · 03/06/2016 10:02

Hey sparks, I've been worried about ovulating early too. How long have you been using OPKs? I only started properly last month, and I ovulated on CD8. How long is your cycle? Mine is around 24-25 days, but this month I started OPKs at CD3 (period only lasts 2 days) and it looked veeeery close to a positive, but have since become lighter and lighter... Confused

I'm now on CD8 and the test line was barele visible yesterday. Will keep testing throughout my cycle to see if it might be a random hormone surge... Getting a bit concerned, althoughI had blood tests taken a few months ago (incl progesterone levels) and it all looked fine... don't know if I should invest in digital OPKs - mine are internet cheapies.

sparksalot · 02/06/2016 23:39

Hi all! Apologies long post ahead!
Well my husband just kind of does what he's told when it comes to the baby making! I guess it got to the stage of me telling him that for woman fertility pretty much half's after 30 (he had no idea) and we basically put marriage buying a house and kids on hold for his career, so it was now or never! He's definitely up for it just not one for talking about it sadly. It's very frustrating. I do often get upset that he shows little to no interest and I do tell him but it goes in one ear and out the other 😠
Eva my cycles seem to be around 30 days and my darkest line on the opk's is at cd10! It seems very early to me but does also coincide with what ovia says. My opk's tell me not to use fmu as women will always have the LH hormone in their wee so it's best to test around 4pm to 8pm after no liquids for at least 2 hours. So that's what I've been doing. I'm now worried tho that because I have a very early ovulation my lining isn't thick enough hence why my periods are so light and the chemical pregnancy in march 😯

CinnamonTwist · 01/06/2016 13:46

Get a puppy...?! After we got our dog he got much more broody!! Might not suit everyone or work for all men but it did for him. I think it's the fact that it changed his life slightly (more responsibility) and we effectively 'raised' it, trained it etc which felt quite paternal for him - watching it grow, and learn from us. He is so attached to that dog now Wink
Took a year to fully kick in mind you, not a quick fix!

Rosey135 · 01/06/2016 13:01

It's great to hear other people's stories, I think I will try leaving him to talk about it a bit more rather than me constantly bringing it up as that could be overwhelming, but as you say cinnamon if we wernt a little scared then we probably wouldn't be taking it seriously.

Also it's that change between talking about it hypothetically and then actually doing it that I think has given him a shock.

Hopefully he will feel more at ease, if anyone has any tips do share.

LemonLimeTonic · 01/06/2016 12:49

Rosey my husband was keen to wait a little longer. I was letting him dictate the time line and wasn't going to rush him. Last month he said out the blue - "Should we buy a book? You know to see what this stuff is all about." Once we had the book at home and we read a bit about the ins and outs (no pun intended!) of conception, he was far more open to the idea. We wrote down the pros and cons/ discussed openly how our lives will change and then kinda just went for it. We're ready. He just needed a bit of time to get his head around it all. It probably helps that all his mates are babied up!

Eva30 · 01/06/2016 12:26

sparks it will definitely go darker if it's positive. What length are your cycles? I'm on cd15, I got a positive OPK yesterday. On days 13&14 there were faint lines, and I was starting to think the same "there's a line however faint". But then yesterday morning when I did OPK it went darker than the control line, quite quickly too, like 20 seconds. Make sure you pee in a tub and hold it in for 30 seconds because it gives it chance to properly detect, and make sure you do it in the morning when your wee is most concentrated

CinnamonTwist · 01/06/2016 12:21

Rosey you're exactly right, the trouble is its one of those things that people are so keen to give you their opinion on, whether you want it or not!

My DH has always said he wanted kids but when we first started talking about it he was less keen on the idea of trying now (when I came off the pill at the end of last summer) I said that I didn't want to try straight away as I wanted to allow my body time to settle down off the pill, and he chilled out a bit. Now he has had time to think about it and get used to the idea he is really keen and wanted to start trying last month, however I had a bit of a wobble last month as to whether I was ready - I think it was the fact that we had now reached the serious bit of stopping preventing, and when you spend so long trying not to get pregnant the idea of becoming pregnant is still a scary thing. We had a long chat about everything and we are both happy and on the same page now... It's a massive decision, I think if he or I wasn't a bit scared then perhaps we wouldn't be taking it seriously enough - we both know our lives will never be the same again afterwards... But in a good way (mostly!!)

Hope you don't mind if I join in?!

Age: 29
TTC: #1
Cycle: #1

Been off all forms of conception for years. The pill didn't agree with me and made me a crying wreck. Tried several brands before giving up. My cycles seem to be pretty regular around 29 or 30 days. I also think I can feel when I ovulate. Never used OPKs so not sure if that's it or if it's just gas. We've bought a clear blue ovulation kit for next month to test this theory. We took much notice of it before but we're really curious now.

We used to use the barrier method and then once we were married switched to pulling out. This is the first month we're giving it a real go but due work travel, we'll have a small window to DTD during my fertile week. Chances are slim I guess.

Fingers crossed for everyone!! X

Rosey135 · 01/06/2016 11:15

Haha just noticed predictive text wrote 'breaststroke' instead of breasts

Rosey135 · 01/06/2016 11:14

Thanks Sparks it's reassuring to hear that. And Cinnamon it sounds like you know your ready, we just need to stop listening to or worrying what other people think.

I'm one week till ETD the 8th of June and Im trying not to symptom spot, but my nipples are really sensitive and sore and although I often get sore breaststroke before Af it's never felt like this before just trying not to focus on it too much. Must try to relax.

How are your OH with this journey? Mine is less than enthusiastic, he is happy enough to dtd and mentions possible names but I think he is still coming around to the idea. Lots of people have said it takes men longer to get excited.

JM118 · 01/06/2016 08:15

Af is due on sunday but been having some very small cramps on and off for a few days now so wondering if it's on its way. Not expecting to be pregnant this month as we didn't dtd enough around ovulation as I was away for the weekend.

sparksalot · 31/05/2016 18:47

Oh well at least you know now and you can start trying properly after af x

CinnamonTwist · 31/05/2016 18:28

I KNEW if I posted on here it would appear... Crazy... I had been resisting moaning about it because I thought that would happen and it sodding did!! Maybe I should've moaned earlier after all Hmm

OP posts:
CinnamonTwist · 31/05/2016 16:13

So my AF has picked this month to stop following the pattern! Had kind of settled down to a 25/35/25/35 (give or take a day or 2) pattern since January... This month should have been the 'short cycle' - last month was a 34 day cycle - and I'm now on day 29 and still no show just some mild cramping which I could have imagined... As far as I'm aware we didn't stop preventing until after I finished my FW, so unless I've massively got it wrong (and were very lucky as we only dtd once near my FW) then I don't know what my body is playing at... The one time I'm actually waiting for it to arrive so we can start our ttc cycle and it's not playing along Sad

Thanks for the new thread Cinnamon!

GirlOnABike, sorry about your MC and good luck for your test this week.

Name: Mango Tango
Age: 29
TTC: baby number 1

Came off pill in January after being on marvelon for 13 years. Still tracking cycles, but had definite LH surge 3 days ago.

Not actively trying at the moment as dh and I have a holiday booked for the beginning of July. We're hoping it will be our last big holiday together Smile

Will start properly trying when we come back !

everdene · 30/05/2016 21:58

Hi, I'd like to join!
Name: Everdene
Age: 32
Cycle #2

I've been putting things into place career and home wise but I've been ready for DH to say the word since k was 28!

I have got sore boobs but am not holding my breath this month! Due to test June 5.

sparksalot · 30/05/2016 21:17

Just to add, if you feel ready then you are ready! I wasn't but until now, im 34 and wish we had been in a position to do it sooner!

sparksalot · 30/05/2016 19:34

Hi all! Yeah the stress of ttc is getting to me too. The constant opk's and don't get me wrong dtd is fun but when it's scheduled it becomes more of a chore!
I'm on CD14 we followd smep and had what I believe is a positive opk on cd10. Does anyone else struggle to see a dark line on the opk? The instructions say that anything other than a line the same colour or darker is negative. Mine are never like that however it does get darker then lighter Hmm
Anyway now we have one more day of dtd and the the dreaded 2ww😯!! Good luck everyone!

CinnamonTwist · 30/05/2016 19:29

Rosey and fuzz I'm exactly the same... Feel I'm not 'old enough' but we are both so ready, or as ready as we can be; together 10 years, Married for 3, own our home, stable income, got a dog who seems happy and stable enough! And our friends are always saying we act about 10 years older responsibility and lifestyle wise (we still know how to have fun but we have been saving to buy our home and are now doing work on it, we don't holiday to Ibiza we go to Wales walking, enjoy cosy nights in and weekends working on the house!) our friends and family won't be surprised (my friends keep asking when we will give them a baby to play with Hmm) but I feel like society in general may judge more!! Specially as I look at least 3 years younger than I am Blush

Thanks MrsGsnow18 for replying, it's nice to know you are not alone! I have bought an ovulation predictor for this month and been using ovia so will see how that goes. Trouble is I start symptom spotting after ovulation and convince myself I might be pregnant!
It seems like it's so much harder when you make the decision to start trying, wish we could have just had an "accident" before! The pressure would have been off.
Keep me posted on your progress and good luck this cycle, fingers crossed cycle 6 is our lucky month!

MrsGsnow18 · 30/05/2016 15:34

Hi Lottie I know exactly how you feel! Thinking about TTC has just kind of taken over my mind!
I'm using OPKs every day and putting my data into ovia so it's hard not to think about it! It's so good coming on here though and seeing other people are in same situations!
I'm also on cycle 6 ttc #1!
