Contraceptive Implant removal and starting to TTC

Hi,

I am new to the site and looking for some help to try a and calm down about TTC for the first time. I am 26 and I am on my second nexplanon implant, so it's been 5 years of heaven without a single period or spot. Before I got the implant my periods were a nightmare, I started at aged 9 and they were always irregular, extreme and very very painful. I was put on the pill and the minipill to try and straighten them out with no luck.

So firstly I'm terrified that as soon as the implant comes out I'm going to go back to that hell. As well as the fact that I have no clue what my cycle is, never did as it was so messed up. So besides just being persistent I have no idea how to optimise TTC if I end up in the same position with AF.

I am also an organised worrier. Extremely organised and prone to worrying about things I can't help, which I know will only make the process worse. But besides the worrying is there anything I can be doing to prepare for TTC besides removing the implant and getting on with it lol.

I am following some of the TTC threads and they seem amazing but I couldn't find one linked with the implant so thought I would just dive in!

Mine were a bit like that - try googling family planning clinics, mine were able to see me quicker than the doctors.

Scottishsnowflake nice to know not in it a lone! Bit infuriated that docs have just cancelled my appointment to get my implant removed as their family planning doc has left and have no idea when there might be appointments again. I just have to keep ringing each week now apparently - one more thing to add to the to do list Angry

The GP recommends folic acid starting three months before TTC - so start now! It can't hurt anyway...

Hi Steff. I'm in the same boat as you, 2nd implant out, irregular cycles etc. (albeit a little older). My cycle came back after 3 weeks but then only had a two week cycle before it was back again Angry TTC our first, so good luck to you too!

Ok then as soon as sticky out I'm a find me some folic acid!

Definitely start taking folic acid when you TTC - after all most women don't know they are pregnant for at least 4 weeks after conception, so the developing embryo will get all its good stuff before you even know it's there Smile
I totally understand your fears about MC. I was terrified at the start when pregnant with DD because my sister had a mc a few years beforehand - ever little thing had me on edge. But now with DC2, I'm a lot more relaxed about the whole thing Smile

Thank you for replying! Congratulations on conceiving so quickly I bet that felt brilliant and so exciting!

I think the thing that honestly scares me the most is the women in my family are ridiculously fertile. I mean seriously there are hundreds of us. But they also have a lot of miscarriages. So on top of not knowing what my own cycle and body is going to like when the stick comes out of my arm I'm comparing myself to them and scared to death of a mc.

BUT got to the think positively. I keep reading about vitamins and folic acid etc is this worth it when you are TTC?

I had a nexplanon implant removed before TTC both of my DC.
I had the first one put in when I was 16 - no periods, no side effects, nothing!! Then I had it taken out a week before my wedding (14th June) and got a BFP on the August bank holiday - which put my date of conception around mid-July!
Had the second implant inserted in May 2015 after DD was born and had some irregular bleeding that time. Had it removed in late January 2016 and I'm now 15 weeks pregnant with DC2 Smile
I don't think there's really anything you can do (other than the obvious ovulation tracking) to get things going....just lots of sex Grin
There's no way of knowing when your fertility will return to normal after removal - mine was super fast, but I've read about people taking a few months to get back to normal fertility.
