Barry-Baxter had a heartbeat! He lives on!

The MW (who may well be the loveliest person on earth) told me that in our area at least, MW are no longer allowed to listen to heartbeats. The policy is now for concerns to be "movement and body awareness led" (as well as the scans) so that only referrals that the mother has initiated due to concerns about movements (or lack thereof) will be supported - they won't support referrals which have been initiated by MWs who think there is something amiss due to heartbeat.

She says that for now she's ignoring this a) because of the reassurance that hearing a heartbeat has for the monther; and b) it's one of her favourite parts of the job when she sees parents hear their baby's heartbeat. She doesn't know what she would do if she thought there was a problem though, so will probably toe the line soon.

Seems a bit bonkers to me - especially at 16 weeks when a lot of women won't feel movements yet - but am sure a lot of thought has gone into it...Hmm

Oh gosh imps I'm so sorry, I was so cross with mn last night that I forgot half of what I wanted to say. It's so early for you to be feeling movements, that I can imagine it would be very easy to not notice them even when they were happening, if you were busy or distracted at the time. I'm sorry your in laws are being particularly annoying, it sounds like there are a lot of opportunities for you to practice your deep breathing! I also wouldn't put too much in store for your lack of weight gain, you've been so sick that I'm not surprised you've not managed to put anything on. Your body knows what it's doing, and will be prioritising b-b's nutritional needs over your own anyway. Glad you are feeling a bit more chipper today though my lovely. At least the sickness seems to be on its way out at last.

I never thought I'd say this, but I am now a MWEPP Grin The appointment was a bit of a crashing introduction to the world of the non-reproductively-challenged though. The mw couldn't understand why I didn't look simply over the moon until after I had explained about our history. I hadn't realised til that point just how tarnished my view of pg must look to others, because I honestly thought I'd gone in there smiling!

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 06:54

Oh, I meant to tell you that we found a weekend 4-session NCT class in August that we've signed up for, rather than the one where we would have missed 2 sessions. August feels a bit early, but we'll give it a go and see how we get on.

It all sounds extremely good Geek Grin How bloody wonderful!

Thanks for your reassuring words Brookers. Am feeling a bit chipper today. Just weighed myself though and I've put on not a single gram since 13 weeks (am 16+1 today) Confused Hopefully this is just because I'm eating a healthier diet now, and not just Pringles, burgers and mini-Babybel all the time. It's another thing to fret about though!

Brooking so hard for your scan on Saturday trix, and for YOurs too keep - I guess it's true that the anxiwty never really goes away.

loopy oh I so ope that your stronger feelings mean this will be your sticky.

mn is freezing badly on mr and have already lost one post, so sorry for awful typing. All is fine here. No bleeding/spotting since the end of week 6, and saturday's scan has given me a lot of hope. ms is starting to ramp up a littlee, though so far only actually been sick once. lots of aches and pulling/stretching pains going on. clexane bruising is awesomely specacula! no date for that yet though :(

cartoontrickster · 10/05/2016 16:51

imps I don't remember constantly feeling movements after the first time I thought I had. I think to begin with its easy to miss them as they are so small so if your busy and distracted you might miss it. I'm sure all is fine. We found that having our own Doppler was good for reassurance especially for dh, but I agree it's a risk and could cause more worry.

Imps9 · 10/05/2016 15:46

Oh Keep I meant to say - re: 20 week scan, I read this thread which I found to be very comforting actually - a reminder that bad news at the scan doesn't necessarily mean tragic news:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1634469-How-common-is-it-to-get-bad-news-at-20-week-scan

Yes, probably I haven't actually been feeling movements. I am still only 16 weeks after all.

I won't bang on about Mr Imps' family - I was probably being totally unreasonable and I know I just have to woman up. It was just a bit easier when Mr Imps and I could quietly get on with it ourselves without interference from others!

PS I'm sorry you're still bring sick, must be exhausting

I was stressing this morning I've still only put on 2/2.5kg and my book says average at 20weeks is 6kg. I'm guessing it's fine, but....

keepitgoing · 10/05/2016 15:28

Oh imps bb is fine. I think it probably wasn't movement tbh then, as it would have been pretty early for a first baby. I hope seeing the mw helps, mine did a Doppler and found it easily, it depends on the position. Other than that it was just bp and wee, the usual, and blood results from your booking. What did the patronising family do? And when are you giving us a bumpie? Deep breaths. I found 12-20 quite hard last time but no pain or bleeding, getting bigger, vvv good signs

Pastamancer · 10/05/2016 15:00

You might hear the heartbeat Imps, some midwives don't do it at this one as can be a little tricky to find but you will hve the doppler at every appointment from then on.

Imps9 · 10/05/2016 14:50

Hello lovelies hope you're okay.

Not long until testing day Loops. Stay strong! Not testing will not make a difference to whether you are pregnant or not (says she who has no willpower to speak of when it comes to peeing on sticks).

Glad you're feeling a bit iffy Trix. You haven't had any bleeding have you? Counting down the minutes to your scan with you.

Gosh Keep how can time go so slowly but also so fast?! Half way to term already! Fabulous.

Geek has the anxiety fucked the fuck off or is it still as bad? Has your bleeding stopped now? Hope so.

I've been feeling quite low the past couple of days. I got a bit cross by Mr Imps' patronising family with whom we spent the weekend, and I haven't managed to shake it off completely. I have a knot in my stomach and a thought that I can't shift that something isn't right. I am sure I have been feeling B-B move for just shy of a week, but haven't felt anything for a couple of days. I know that it's probably absolutely nothing, and I still have sore boobs and was sick this morning. It's just this unshakeable sense of doom that I need to get rid of.

16 week MW appointment tomorrow - not expecting anything exciting but nice to have an appt to look forward to.

Well not long till you can test now loopy! Brooking that it's all good signs for this month

geek hope tomorrow goes well with the mw, am sure it will be a bit adminny, but I always get excited/nervous anyway!

Hope all are well, it's all rainy here today, boo!

Just realised, at 18+5 I'm slightly over halfway to term! :)

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 09/05/2016 18:51

Fingers crossed for your scans keep and trix.

This week has dragged so much, I ovulated after I went to bed last Monday night and before I woke up Tuesday morning, so I'm either 7dpo tonight or tomorrow morning depending on when the egg popped. Still getting my ouchy feelings, trying not to get my hopes up but it feels stronger this month than lately. I wish the next few days would hurry up and be over with!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 09/05/2016 10:12

oh Twins keep how gorgeous (for short periods of time!). i've not actually worn the mat jeans, only tried them on. But its highly unlikely the weather will stay this Lovely so I wanted some more comfortable jeans ready and waiting. I have a few bottoms that still fit, and plenty of tops (especially now I'm not trying to hide my teeny bump)

trix no washing up for you then - what a shame :o

cartoontrickster · 09/05/2016 09:38

Not really about the same as this , just a bit sick it was mostly in the evening with him though.
Strong smells are starting to get to me as well, one of them being washing up liquid.
I know that sometimes pred is used to treat severe morning sickness (hg?) So I wonder if that means I'd be very sick with our it. Trouble is if you read the side effects of all these drugs it could be them making me feel sick! As for the sore boobs that's probably the cyclogest.

keepitgoing · 09/05/2016 09:36

Ooh trix not long now till your scan
beedle we've had lovely weather here too, I adore summer. I'm in the hairband-in-buttonhole stage as my mat clothes fall off

Saw some new twins at the weekend, omg so glad I'm pregnant they were so scrumptious and kip was adorable with them... Dh cuddled one for ages, he was in heaven

My 20 week scan is next Friday, I'm nervous as I've heard a few horrible stories but trying to be reasonable that odds are in our favour

BeedlesPineNeedles · 09/05/2016 09:18

Ooh a symptom trix were you very sick with N?

cartoontrickster · 09/05/2016 08:33

Morning hope you all had a lovely weekend.
Yes beedles scan in Saturday eek!
I'm feeling mildly sickly so I guess that's a good sign.

BeedlesPineNeedles · 09/05/2016 07:03

Morning all,

loopy I was expecting you to say you felt the kicks from about 10 weeks! I was really surprised when we had a scan at 10 weeks that the baby was moving I Think I just thought they just lay there until much later!

trix is it Saturday for your scan?

Just had a rather Lovely 4 day weekend, the weather has been really nice. But it has highlighted my lack of clothes that fit! I bought some overbump jeans on Saturday. I don't Think they'll fall down but they are fairly loose where the denim joins the bump band - though I guess I'll need some more growing room later on!

I've also told a couple more of my colleagues so I can stop trying to hide my fat belly at work!

emalady · 08/05/2016 16:48

keep I'm 32, was reading a some stuff recently and the stats get pretty depressing which is not helping me stay positive. Hopefully It will be happening soon. Also I think I know how to chnage a tyre but have not put it into practice so think I would probably freak out a bit.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 07/05/2016 19:53

Great news re your scan Geek!

Re feeling kicks, ds1 had an anterior placenta so didn't feel anything until 22 weeks and was only tiny flutters to start with. ds2 was slightly earlier as was posterior placenta. But ever since I had ds1 I have felt ovulation and implantation. Before having ds1 I didn't feel ovulation but I did have sensations from implantation just didn't realise what was going on at the time.
About 7 dpo I had lots going on as had tried to paint a load of raised beds with DH and I had to stop as felt awful and neither of us realised why until I got BFP which was around 18-20 dpo on a clearblue digital!

Can still feel things, but no reason to get excited as chances are I will be trying again next month, but I know it's a numbers game and at some point I must win this crappy game so trying to remain a fraction optimistic, as feeling a bit more ouchier with it this month so maybe this one will burrow in properly...

cartoontrickster · 07/05/2016 17:34

Sorry I'm only just checking in, been a busy day.
Glorious news geek and lovely pic. I hope you will feel more relaxed now.
loopy it must be so hard to put off testing when you are so aware of what's happening in there.
I'm doing ok. One day my symptoms are reassuring next they are gone.N is definitely helping take my mind off it. One week till scan although I do keep worrying that there is nothing there!

keepitgoing · 07/05/2016 13:35

Yay yay YAY!!!!!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 07/05/2016 10:25

Woohoo so pleased :o
