Is a December baby a no go if possible?

Currently trying to conceive DC2. DD will be 4 years this year she is an October birthday.

I ve worked it out that if i fall pregnant this cycle then i will have a due date of 13th December. I will be having a c section which are usually a week before but i know this is not always the case.

Dh is a tradesman and December is a busy month for him.

Would it be awful for a baby to have a December birthday? Im wondering whether it would be best to avoid December?

Any thoughts?

I thought you might be slightly over thinking it but as you say your partner is going to be really busy and if it's a good time for making money and he will be stressed through work (if he's self employed this might make a big difference) and people are more busy and you feel this is a factor then I can see how to me personally that might make me question it too.

My ex sister in law was a Dec baby and one of my close friends is 23rd they both hate it :( I love the idea of the festive season but I guess it's the fact Christmas can take over and they both feel like they dont have the chance to have a proper birthday and people are always too busy.

DD has Mid Jan birthday and it's a nightmare for money after Christmas and it feels like a lifetime to her till she has her next celebration after having two within that short space of time.

I think next time around I would love to be slightly selfish and try to aim it somewhere in the middle but with previous mc's and fertility issues I think we would have to try every month and not miss any chances we had. But if this wasn't an issue I probably would skip a month or two.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 24/03/2016 13:42

Life doesn't work like that though, does it? DH and I are both teachers and both September/October babies who thought we had it sussed starting trying in January for our much wanted baby so it would be oldest in its year at school.

Many sad months and tear filled periods later, I would have given anything for a baby born any time of year. I eventually conceived our DD who was born in July. Literally the crappest time in the school calendar. Couldn't have cared less. It was no longer in any way important.

If it's meant to be you'll have a bouncing baby in December if you don't want one don't have sex. However you could be due in Jan, Feb or even March and baby could come early!

In my experience planning isn't everything, I've had friends with stillbirths, miscarriages, no children due to infertility you get the picture. In my own experience I 'planned' 4 years between my DCs and definitely a Sept, Oct, Nov birth. In reality we have less than 2 years between them and a summer birth.

My advice is don't over plan.

thumb3lina · 24/03/2016 13:31

What if you skip this month, conceive next month and your baby comes early? DC would be a December baby then anyway.

I was due to have DD in January but she decided to come early and now her birthday is a few days before christmas, you can't really rely on planning it.

I have three December babies! It's busy, but wonderful. I always struggled to conceive and I think I'm only fertile in the spring, much like a rabbit or bird. Grin

RomiiStartsAnew · 24/03/2016 13:23

DC2 was conceived after three consecutive miscarriages. I didn't really care when his birthday was going to be at that point! He is close to Christmas but he simply spends most of the rest of the year planning his party and present wishes. And asking for stuff because his birthday is so far awayGrin.

We didnt try last month as my husband has his final exams to qualify as a chartered accountant in November. Lo and behold, that was the month we got our BFP and I am now 7 weeks, EDD is a week after his exam.

Not the best timing but so relieved to finally have a bfp!

And it seems that not stressing about it or actively trying did the trick - maybe you could just see how it goes this month and let your body decide!

My DS (first born) was due and born on 28th Dec...pros to this were it was after Xmas so this was a big pressure taken off, to this day Xmas finishes on the 27th Dec and birthday celebrations begin, there's no tree or Xmas decorations, only balloons and banners and he we will never make him 'share' his day with Xmas. All the family were around due to the festive period and off work etc which helped, he was nearly 5 when he started school, having that extra year at home really helped as wasn't ready for school at age 4.....cons are its bloody cold, dark and horrible in December, being motivated to get out of bed let alone the house can be hard (that may have just been me, I hate winter) I noticed this more so after having my DD in July, sooo much easier and just nicer especially when you have a toddler to entertain, easy to get up and go out when the sun is shining but then she was very young starting school (although coped very well, much better than DS would have at 4) but the difference between them is huge, she is behind being a summer born but they all catch up in the end.

Honestly I think it doesn't really matter, it's so exciting you're planning a new baby and what will be will be, they will come when the time is right....good luck! Xx

My brithday is december 10th.

I like it. I like that i can ask for a joint present and get something bigger. I like that everyone is in party mode, and i can piggy back on to christmas parties rather than try and organise everyone for a birthday.

I prefer it to summer- my friend has an august birthday and hated it through school and uni, as everyone was away.

mrsmugoo · 23/03/2016 22:06

This time last year we were TTC. We didn't want a Christmas baby so we skipped a month of trying.

No big deal.

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/03/2016 21:49

You could always have an official birthday in mid June like the queen! Then just a special day on the actual birthday but without the presents/party etc.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 23/03/2016 21:46

I've got three due/born December. It's fine you manage. My hubby is a self employed builder and we just put money aside before hand. A baby is a blessing any time of year

broodypsycho · 23/03/2016 21:30

In an ideal world, I wouldn't have a baby due in December for reasons you and other posters have just said.. However I'm in my 9 month trying..and at this point I couldn't give a shit if I had a baby on Christmas day I just want a baby. You do what's best for you

SaveSomeSpendSome · 23/03/2016 21:28

It will be a early december birthday not a mid or late december.

I am trying to conceive so obviously the conception board seemed the right place but tbh whatever you post in any section of mumsnet there will always be someone who is sensitive to your op so imo you cant win.

Many thanks for the responses so far.

I agree with you, OP. If I can help it, we will avoid a due date of December and January. I also know quite a few December birthdays and it's not great for them.

Half-heartedly TTC our second at the moment and kind of have fingers crossed it has happened already or won't for a few more months.

Vilio · 23/03/2016 21:18

I was overdue over Christmas. It was my worst christmas. Now my ds has a birthday just after christmas. It's not good for the presents. He doesn't get any celebratory party. Noone In the mood. I do feel bad for him and I would love to have a summer party excuse but none in this house.
I miscarried what should have been a June baby so I get that we are lucky to have any.
But if you do get the luxury of choice, then yes, my advise is skip this month.

CrumpetsAndGin · 23/03/2016 21:18

As a December baby myself: yes, I'd prefer to have a birthday in a different month. As a child I hated always getting 'joint birthday and Christmas presents' (which never seemed to differ from others 'normal' just birthday or Christmas presents) and as an adult I'd love to be able to suggest drinks out without feeling the social schedule was already too full.

magpie17 · 23/03/2016 21:17

It would never even have occurred to me to think about this when ttc. I just wanted a baby, whenever it came. I think you are possibly overthinking this, I think the chances of conception are only 25% every month anyway so chances are this won't be an issue.

CinderellaFant · 23/03/2016 21:13

Agree LittleBlackTrilby

You either want a baby or you don't.

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/03/2016 21:13

I don't think it's ridiculous to consider the month, anyone can have fertility issues but before they know that they might think about birth month. Don't think December is a problem really but either way you really can't plan too much what month it'll happen.

LittleBlackTrilby · 23/03/2016 21:10

I mean this very kindly: this board has a lot of posts from people who would do anything to have a baby. This may be a wee bit on the insensitive side. Sorry.

RudeElf · 23/03/2016 21:10

If they dont moan about that they'll moan about something else. Its what kids do. They live to resent their parents. Until they become parents Grin

badg3r · 23/03/2016 21:09

I don't think there's anything wrong with putting it off a month if you personally prefer to avoid December.

SaveSomeSpendSome · 23/03/2016 21:06

I just dont want them to moan about having birthday and xmas presents combined etc etc and the festive period meaning they feel their birthday gets overlooked and they resent having that birthday month.
