TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

I meant to say 400mcg folic acid not mg. 800mcg all together. Sound like your tube is clear its self out Lissie which is good but like you said best give them a ring monday if it hasnt stopped. Have a good weekend everyone.

lissie · 16/06/2007 09:12

since weds, started off quite heavy and is just a bit now. def old blood tho. rang the fertility nurse and she said its just the gunk from the tube coming out. didnt think thered be this much tho. if still going on monday ill ring back

Genidef · 15/06/2007 23:15

lissie
how many days now? have you called consultant?

lissie · 15/06/2007 22:23

spoke to soon, spotting has resumed with mucus (if tmi, im sorry) cedar im taking 5mg FA + multi-vit, genidef its to prevent mc's really but cant do any harm!

Genidef · 15/06/2007 18:22

Cedar - is the extra FA and aspirin to gaurd against MC? Sorry, I've probably missed smthng.

Lissie it's good to get that green light. it really meant a lot to us anyway. glad the spotting has stopped.

cedar12 · 15/06/2007 17:28

Not taking aspirin anymore Lissie. I am taking extra folic acid though 400mg in multivit plus extra 400mg in folicacid tablet. How much are you taking?
Harvey I hope you are ok.

lissie · 15/06/2007 15:53

not too bad. spotting has stopped now so the ttc starts in earnest.

again!

Genidef · 15/06/2007 15:42

AWRIGHT. No news in an overall sort of way, none in particular on the bambini front think AF will appear this month as feel we left it too late. Which is good in a way given the booze I have consumed - have actually made for meals out with friends, first time in ages...

You?

lissie · 15/06/2007 15:08

hi, how are you doing genidef?

Genidef · 15/06/2007 14:52

Hello have been thinking about everyone.
Harvey - am thinking of you in particular. fingers well crossed.
x

lissie · 15/06/2007 13:56

agree with that cedar, every twinge has me googling! cramps have stopped, still spotting a little bit but (tmi) thats just the gunk from my tube. am assuming that i will ov on tues as predicted but wearing dh out anyway, just in case
did your doc prescribe high dose FA?
are you still taking asprin?

hope HA is alright. bit worried.

cedar12 · 15/06/2007 11:08

Hello everyone Harvey I hope things went well with the scan this morning.
Have your cramps settled down now Lissie? do you think ovulated early? or do you think its the result of the hsg? Talking about cramps I have had a dull ache since yesterday not due on until next weekend i think, but not been taking much notice of dates this month though. Are bodies do strange things dont they. I am sure I probably wouldnt notice normally but when your ttc you seem to notice every thing.

Aitch · 15/06/2007 09:58

the best of luck to you, HA.

lissie · 15/06/2007 07:37

good luck harvey x

cedar12 · 15/06/2007 07:35

Harvey I hope everything works out. Have got everything crossed.

lissie · 14/06/2007 21:25

agree with aitch, try to think positive sweetheart, i really hope this works out.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 12:38

i've got to say i wouldn't allow them to do anything more intrusive than a fannycam. at your levels they should definitely be able to see something on a scan, they expect to see something after 1000, generally speaking.

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 12:12

LOL Fanny cam .

Yeah they'll do the normal one and that one too. I was quite happy when i got my 2nd lot of results back but dr wasnt. She really scared me and then when she mentioned the laparoscopy i burst out crying. I think there being overally cautious because of the EP last time but at the same time there scaring the life out of me. Since the EP i did get pregnant again in the right spot but unfortunatly i had a MC. At lease i know that my remaining tube is a good one.

Gosh your HCG were low and didnt double either. I bet that you were bricking it. Glad that you had a good outcome. Your story gives me encouragement.

Im trying my best to remain positive and to be honest i dont think that it is Ectopic. Ive got no symptoms. Had a little bit of brown discharge on Sunday when period should have been due. Slight pain / ache on left side but thats probably down to everything stretching and plus i had this with the MC baby. What ever i feel or do i cant change anything. So im just going nto have to wait and see.

PLEASE LET EVERYTHING BE OK!!

Aitch · 14/06/2007 11:18

oh, and a laparoscopy seems a bit OTT, if you ask me. did they mention a transvaginal scan? (or fannycam, as it's known in our house).

Aitch · 14/06/2007 11:17

okay then, seen as you've not had the scan i'll say out loud that i'd have been absobloodylutely delighted with an 85% rise.

my dd's hcgs went, at 4 and a bit weeks, something like 35, 57, the THREE DAYS LATER 81, then 147, then started to double... can you imagine the horror of the 81 figure? i was dying inside! dd is eighteen months old now and rather lovely. stick with feeling as hopeful as you can until we hear otherwise, make that baby feel nice and welcome.

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 10:57

Hi Aitch, my scans not until tomorrow morning. Wish it was today though. Glad that you've also said the 66% rise is acceptable. It gives me hope.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 10:53

hey, hey, hey, x-posted somehow... harveysaunt you'll know by now, i hope everything went okay. the 66% figure is right so here's hoping.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 10:51

harveysaunt, congratulations on your new pregnancy, great news. that's a good tip from genidef about goiing to the EPT website, they're very helpful there. i had the same kind of pains, i'd have to say, and everything turned out fine for me. the docs said it was probably adhesions or old scar tissue pulling away as my womb got a wee bit bigger. i hope everything works out beautifully for you.

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 10:08

My scans at 8.30am. I wish i never had the bloods done now. Whay did i do it.

lissie · 14/06/2007 09:53

oh shit harveysaunt! how scary. what time's your scan tomorrow?
