TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

poor cedar, what is a hsg?

lissielou · 23/02/2007 08:34

pants, just want this to be over iykwim. still at least my bladders in the right place now!

cedar12 · 22/02/2007 09:27

Lissie sounds like a good idea to wait until you see the consultant. It feels like everything takes forever dosent it.
My dh was in a strop for about 2 days before he had to do the w*nk test!
i got my letter about hsg yesterday I have got to phone them when I get my period. I had cramps all yesterday which thought meant it was on its way but nothing yet and it happened 4 weeks today. Maybe I was ovulating but it felt like cramps in the middle rather than either side. I thought I would probabley be late as hcg only went down to 13 last monday.
I found that the first first ectopic I had 2 years ago when I had surgery My stomache took at least 3-4 weeks am afraid to stop being so swollen.

lissielou · 22/02/2007 08:50

i think so, just got the letter confirming the appt, luckily theyll do most of the tests the same day. ive already had high swabs and blood tests, so just got the REALLY invasive 1s to look forward too. and dh is worried about having a w*nk!!!

PinkElephant · 22/02/2007 08:45

Lissie - are you going to hang on till the 21st then? It's a safe bet

OP posts:
lissielou · 22/02/2007 08:29

i think so. we see the specialist on the 21st so the timing would be perfect. i just dont want to leave it too long iykwim

PinkElephant · 22/02/2007 08:28

Lissie - I found that as soon as my HCG's were back at zero so was my stomach. I got very bloated during the first 5-7wks of being pg. It may take a little longer for you as you've had major surgery from the sounds of it and there will be a lot of inflammation there.

Sparkly - My first AF was about 2wks late. Was getting so worried and desperate for my body to get back to normal

Cedar - Yes I'm still booked in for my HSG in March and hoping AF arrives on time otherwise I will have to cancel it. I've phoned up to get an appointment with the Consultant who apparently I have to see to get the results and before I can TTC again. I'm actually going to beg them to give me the results straight away - surely they can tell me something, I can't bare having to wait any longer than the 3 months....its torture!!!

Lissie - have you decided to wait or TTC again straight away?

lissielou · 21/02/2007 16:27

SparklyGothKat · 20/02/2007 21:40

lol, I never get ovulation pain on my left side, but it was the left side this month, so fingers crossed that because the EP was on the right, everything will be ok

cedar12 · 20/02/2007 21:38

I meant fingerscrossed not finger sorry a bit tired.

cedar12 · 20/02/2007 21:36

Fingercrossed then.

SparklyGothKat · 20/02/2007 21:32

I'm on day 16, I had pain on day 11, which I am sure was ovulation.

cedar12 · 20/02/2007 21:29

Sparkley what day are you on at the moment, fingercrossed for the 5th. Not sure where I am in my cycle as a have not had a period since my ectopic, which was 4 weeks ago this thursday.

Hi lissie and lubyloo. I know how you feel about trying again, I didnt want to for about a week, but after that wanted to start trying again asap. Just feel as I only have one tube and have had 2 ectopic feels I need to get a move on as my bodies a bit crap really and took ages last time.
Lissie it sound like you have really been through it hope your feeling ok. Are you having any follow up.

Lubyloo · 20/02/2007 11:10

Hi, another one joining if I may.I had an EP in Oct that was treated with methotrexate. This is our first month TTC again and I am currently on CD22.

SparklyGothKat · 20/02/2007 10:08

we have started TTC again, but I was told that I only had to wait a month, because I had a self resolving EP. Fingers crossed, I will know in 13 days if its worked......

lissielou · 20/02/2007 07:58

bit low tbh. want to ttc again asap. but know it wouldnt be sensible. how are you doing?

SparklyGothKat · 20/02/2007 07:40

Course you can Lissie. I was sorry to hear your news. How are you?

lissielou · 20/02/2007 07:22

hi, can i join?

PinkElephant · 16/02/2007 13:16

Golds - I would test, as you need to look after yourself if it's positive. Would it be a bad thing if you are pregnant? I agree with you Cedar, you need to get yourself referred to the EPU or go see GP if you are pregant and I'm sure you will be momitored carefully due to your last ectopic. Really hope your ok and can sympathise with your fears here. keep us posted

I am not very good at working out dates but You can test from the day you are due on your period. You can it before that but its not very reliable. Your cycle can be all over the place when you come off the pill.
If you do get a positive test you need to contact the early pregnancy unit at your local hospital to arrange a scan which if you have a history of an ectopic can be done at about 7 weeks they will also do some blood tests.
I should do a test and if stil nothing in a week re test.
Good Luck I hope it all works out let us now how you get on.
