TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

Also, Happy Birthday for tomorrow.

cedar12 · 24/02/2007 21:51

Lubyloo I hope you dont mind me butting in but they didnt offer me an HSG until 18 months after my 1 st ectopic. So I should push the drs for one just to check everythings ok i wish I had I bit sooner. It such a rollercoaster isnt it, good luck.
Hope everyone ok tonight.

Hi Pink Elephant. To be honest I'm a bit ambivalent about TTC again. I really want another baby but it took us 4 years and a miscarriage to conceive DD so I am really dreading getting in to the whole round of trying then being disappointed when AF arrives

I am on day 28 of my cycle tomorrow. Since EP have had 30 day cycles so AF not due until Wednesday. I have some early pg tests though so wondering if I should test tomorrow (on my birthday!) Not expecting to be PG as it took so long for DD.

I have not had an HSG. It was never mentioned at all. I was told my body would absord the pregnancy after the methotrexate. I know now from reading EPT website that this is not true so I'm concerned it is still sitting there blocking my right tube. I still get pains there.Did you ask if you could have one or does your health authority do one as routine after an EP?

Hope you're doing ok

Ouch sparkly and lissie poor you.
I know how you feel about your sil being pregnant lissie first time around for me my sil was pg and made my life awful not very sensitive to what I had just been through and said some really insensitive things. I avoided everyone for a while could cope with some people just not sil. I got very angry but bottled it all up nearly split up me and dh feel so much better this time but hospital is going to organise some counciling.
Does anyone know if theys any link with exercise ectopics? aspirin thing sound interesting.
Will try and log on later but going to have my curry now.

oh god, lissie, i feel i should confess... i remember responding to your post when you first had your bleeding and although i was telling you that i'd had bleeding with dd and it had worked out fine a teeny part of my brain said 'uh-oh', cos i've had two eps... but it was only a tiny alarm bell and sometimes i've felt like the ectopic harbinger of doom round here as i've warned a couple of people recently and it's come true. so it's not very scientific but part of me thought that if i kept out of it you'd be fine, as you didn't have the classic symptoms... i meant to check back with you but somehow i forgot and the next thing was your husband was saying you had an ep. i'm really sorry that i didn't pay more attention, as at least it could have been somethign you might have been more prepared for. anyway, i'm wittering, sorry. but the fact is that docs should be more aware of eps as not everyone presents with the classic symptoms. i didn't, for example.

Lissie - Bruising is often a result of major surgery. As for your arm Sparkly ....well thats just clumbsy!!
Luby - how are you doing? You are just ahead of me and seem to have had the same experience. I was wondering how you're feeling TTC again? A little anxious or just excited? Did you have an HSG - I have mine next month.

it still is god knows what they did to me on that table

SparklyGothKat · 24/02/2007 17:59

Ouch Lissielou.. that looks painful

lissielou · 24/02/2007 17:39

fecking docs

PinkElephant · 24/02/2007 17:38

Sparkly - so sorry .... got you muddled up with Lissie!!! Ouch to the bruising
Lissie - ouch also!!!

OP posts:
lissielou · 24/02/2007 17:32

just put a pic of the bruising from surgery on my profile, its not for the faint-hearted

SparklyGothKat · 24/02/2007 17:15

PE it was my arm. It took weeks to go down, and it really hurt. Its ok now, but if that woman ever comes near me with a butterfly needle again, I will run away fast.

lissielou · 24/02/2007 17:06

my bfps were getting darker tho and my hcg levels had sdoubled, thats why an ep didnt occur. i thought i was mcing. that sounds awful btw!

PinkElephant · 24/02/2007 16:58

Golds - sorry to hear about your BFN!! When you start TTC again I bet you expect it to happen immediatley. I'm so excited about starting to TTC in April and I'm really hoping it won't take another 8months of trying again
Lissie - Jeeeze ...your arm is a frigging mess - those nurses need re-training!!! HSG is the insertion of dye into your uterus and then an xray shows whether there is any blockages/damage to the fallopian tubes. I've had to book myself in for one of these in March, just hope my AF arrives on time otherwise I can't have it done. I was also told that if/when I get my next BFP to come in straight away for HCG monitoring and the scan will be early. Was also give a top tip by a friend in gynae - to monitor preganancy myself with preganancy test kits and watch the blue line, checking that it goes from dark to darker rather than getting paler etc as this is based on the Beta HCG's also

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2007 11:33

hah! dd deleted last line - i was just going to say i'm doing it next time i ttc, that's for sure.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2007 11:32

i have a friend with a similar problem... it's so unfair i can't even get my head round it. you know that izzie from the EPT had something astonishing like 10 pregnancies before her wee girl decided to stick around? she'd be very good for you to talk to, if you haven't already. i know this is ludicrous, but i decided (amongst the other supplements etc) that i wanted to take a low-dose aspirin as well. i checked with my dr first and he okayed it. in my stoopid brain i had decided that i must have sticky blood (why else all the heart attacks in my actually quite clean liveing family, my high BP and my two eps) so i took it to thin the blood and was pregnant for the first time with a uterine pg. i have NO IDEA if it helped but

lissielou · 24/02/2007 10:42

i have aitch, im using the next few months to work out my cycle in more depth, tbh tho i dont seem to have any probs ttc its staying pg. im just worried about my sil having hers coz i cant avoid them.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2007 10:39

lissie have you been to the ectopic pregnancy trust website? it's worth doing, they have good medical bods there who can answer your question. (although as it happens i know for a fact they would recommend a 3 month wait to ttc). so sorry about what happened. and believe me i've been there with the friends gettign pregnant and having babies. i used to feel that there shoudl be a queueing system, and just cos i'd got pushed out the queue i couldn't see why everyone was skipping in front... surely it was my turn next?

lissielou · 24/02/2007 10:31

oh golds. found out yesterday that a friend from my pnd group (who was due the same time as my 2nd mc) has had her lo, i saw her a week before my ep and told her our news. im so angry with myself for being so sad! when was your ep golds?

golds · 24/02/2007 10:23

I was advised to wait 3 cycles, advised not told. BTW nothing has happened yet, I got a BFN last week so maybe to soon, oh I don't know

lissielou · 24/02/2007 10:14

i would have thought so. the doc who removed my ep said that asap after bfp i should be referred to the epu for blods and scans.

right am 1dpo went to see gp yesterday and hes told me to wait 3-6m before ttc but the consultant said when i feel ready wtfs going on????!!!!!

SparklyGothKat · 23/02/2007 23:13

oh yea, just remembered, looked at my profile. You will see a pic of my arm from when the nurse in A&E took blood when I had my EP and f*cked it up

SparklyGothKat · 23/02/2007 23:11

so about monday..?? omg... What if its postive and I test that early, will the hospital take blood tests to check my HCG levels?

lissielou · 23/02/2007 23:04

10 dpo i think, good luck!

SparklyGothKat · 23/02/2007 14:47
