TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

cedar12 · 19/03/2007 12:45

Lissie just reading your other thread about appiontment. I really wish you load of luck. I think lap and dye would be the way to go so they can get a really good look and may be open your tube up a bit. Is some one going with you? At one of my appointments I got so upset and didnt come out any the wiser so good idea to have someone with you. If Dh cant go have you got a good friend or family near by who could come with you?
Make sure you make a big list of questions to grill with.

Hi Girls, sorry to hear about the hsg's being so painful.

Haven't been able to log on to MN this wk since my last post. It's funny, I think I had delayed shock as I was doing quite well until Thurs and now I just can't keep the tears back. Having said that, I am feeling much better today after speaking to a few RL friends. I don't get the chance to get on MN that often but will keep dipping in and out of this thread. Talk to you soon. xx

cedar12 · 17/03/2007 10:11

Pe what date can you actually start trying, I am sure the folic acid thing will be ok trying talking to your gp again.

cedar12 · 17/03/2007 10:10

Result still not back yesterday. Sorry you feel so rough Pe hope you feel better today.

PinkElephant · 16/03/2007 13:14

Yes I've got on Friday 13th April (lets hope thats not an omen) There's always something to worry about... I'm so worried about the pain now and don't know if this is normal. How are you today?

OP posts:
lissielou · 16/03/2007 13:07

dunno PE, sorry youre still feeling so rough. have you had a followup appt?

PinkElephant · 16/03/2007 13:04

Any news cedar? God I feel so uncomfortable today, I had so much pain from the HSG all of yesterday and today its little easier but still damn painful. I'm sure this isn't right but can't imagine what else it could be other than bruising and inflammation I phoned the unit and they said to just watch out for bleeding which I've not had. How are you feeling?
Now I've been reading on the ectopic trust forum about folic acid etc and when you can start to TTC again. If you had methotrexate (which wipes out your folic acid levels) are you supposed to be taking a higher dose than the 400mcg for TTC ladies? Am I safe to TTC again if I've only been taking this dose for 8wks? Its all so confusing as the ectopic formum suggests you should be taking it for 12wks before TTC and perhaps at a higher level....anyone know?

Maybe she is in clinic this morning I supose.

cedar12 · 16/03/2007 10:34

I will give her to 11.45 then phone her I think, and give her my mobile number so she can phone me at work. I hate waiting they must realise how horrid it is.

lissielou · 16/03/2007 10:02

try again now cedar, she may need a nudge. when i was waiting for my HCG results i rang up 8 times in 1/2 hour

cedar12 · 16/03/2007 09:59

Feeling really nervous today waiting for the nurse to phone with my results I hope she phones before I go to work at lunch time.
Phoned and asked yesterday but she hadnt looked them up yet. She said she would phone as soon as she has had a chance. Now I feel like a nag!

PinkElephant · 15/03/2007 12:05

Oh yuk - metronidazole! Bet you feel crap taking those. I got a prescription for my GP for that and Cefalexin but told not to take them unless I was sure I got an infection. After the HSG they gave me three days of ciproflox as cover just incase so I'm taking these uugh!!

Lissie - yes ouch!!

cedar12 · 15/03/2007 11:26

Pe its not the most pleasant experience is it, but good news your tubes are clear.
I started antibiotics on monday got 7 day course Doxycyline and metronidazole I am going to rattle soon with all the vitamin etc as well!

lissielou · 15/03/2007 11:06

ouch PE!

PinkElephant · 15/03/2007 10:38

Cedar - I was thinking about you too!! Bloody hell it hurt like mad, it felt like a stabbing pain to the right and then the left as she shot the dye through. Apparently everthing looks "normal" but she said she had to push hard to clear the left side where I'd had my ectopic. I really didn't expect it too be so painful. Last night it got worse and today it aches and cramps so much!! I've taken brufren and paracetamol and it still hurts - struggling to stand up straight, it feels like my ectopic did... like I've been thumped in the pelvis area with a baseball!! Is this normal? I got some antibiotics as cover ... did you get some too?

99rd - I'm so, so very sorry for you loss.

cedar12 · 15/03/2007 09:59

Not very comfortable, hurt when they put the dye in. But once it was all over no pain at all really just a few cramps.
How are you doing Lissie?
