TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

Got my fingers crossed.

lissie · 02/06/2007 18:57

no, waiting til tomorrow. last af was fine, bang on schedule. what scares me tho is with my ep my hcg levels were only picked up by a clearblue on the day af was due and only a v faint line. tested using a predictor test yesterday which (the brand) didnt pick up my ep at all til i was 5+4. maybe im reading too much into it but im a bit scared now.

cedar12 · 02/06/2007 18:18

Have you tested again today Lissie. Maybe your cycle is a bit messed up after chemical pg. I hope you get bfp though.

lissie · 02/06/2007 14:50

it is. at 2.20. am cr*pping myself tbh

well, af was due today (she always arrives first thing, without fail). and no sign of her at all. no backache, no cramps, no spots or greasy hair, and no bfp.

WTF is going on!!

cedar12 · 02/06/2007 09:38

Sorry your feeling so shitty and about the bfn Lissie. It has taken over our lives over the last couple of years and If it helps I have been feeling the same. Life is not fair, I really hope you get some good news soon you really deserve it after everything you have been through.
At least you can have your hsg and will have a better idea about whats going on. Good luck for monday its your appointment with the consultant isnt it?

lissie · 01/06/2007 20:15

well, af's not due til tomorrow but got a bfn today so have jumped the gun and booked my HSG for the 11th at 8.45. feels like a big step.

my mum came round today and told me that one of my oldest friends (who is due 2w before my edd would have been) is having a little girl. i feel so shitty for being so jealous and angry. mum asked me what was wrong (i was banging around the kitchen) and i let rip at her. some garbled "why can all these other women get pg at the drop of their knickers, while even when i do get pg my body f*cks it up" nonsense. then i felt like a prize cow.....

i hate what ttc does to me!

Genidef its a bit of a long story,Had 1st hsg 18month after first ep, Dr doing it told me everything looked ok so far. So I that as tube looked ok. Went to see my consultant 5 weeks later to look at the results in detail. He told me my tube was blocked which was a bit of a shock. From there they said i could either have a lap and dye and possibly open my remaining tube. Had Lap and dye my consultant was really surprised my tube overall looked really good only a few tiny adhesion close to the ovary. Got pg 2 month later (feb) unfortunately ep again. Had another hsg done in april tube still open thank goodness but had enough really after 2 1/2 years ttc so decided to go down the ivf route.

Genidef · 31/05/2007 18:49

How did you find out it was blocked later?

cedar12 · 31/05/2007 08:00

Although we live in southampton we have decided to go to Woking as my consultant has a clinic there. It also has slightly better result than southampton around 40% for under 35s. I will be 28 in a couple of weeks so at least age is on my side.
Genidef after my first hsg 18 months ago they told me things looked ok only to be told 5weeks later that my tube was booked. So last time a got them to show me.

Genidef · 30/05/2007 21:30

Good luck with the IVF.

Too squeamish to watch the dye going in. Yikes! Getting very squeamish these days. Anyway, found out today BUPA have agreed to pay for HSG which is great. Probably helped the woman over the phone had it done...as it's often (although I guess not after surgery for an ectopic) classed as "fertility treatment" which is not covered.

lissie · 30/05/2007 19:18

thats brilliant cedar! whats the hospital like that you'll be using?

cedar12 · 30/05/2007 14:59

Managed to get ivf appointment for June 13th. So hopefully have the ivf in July or Aug. Its a bit scary now its all happening.

cedar12 · 30/05/2007 08:13

Sparkly how lovely its lovely when start feeling little flutters.
Genidef Hsg wasnt to bad, as Lissie said take some painkillers before. Painful when they put the dye in, I asked them to show me it going in on the screen.

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 23:17

I feel ok, still tired, but I think that its running around after 3 kids. have a smallish bump, which means I can't wear my jeans anymore Its scary how fast this pregnancy is going. I have to move my kids rooms around, the DDs will be going into DS' room, DS will be going into Dd2's room and the baby will be in dd1's room, so we have lots of juggling to do...

lissie · 29/05/2007 23:12

oh how lovely!!!! how are you feeling?

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 23:10

Oh I am so happy for PE!!!!

I am ok, 17 weeks now, have started to feel the baby moving, and heard its heartbeat last week (118-120bpm, so everyone thinks its a boy now lol)

lissie · 29/05/2007 23:10

wow, sounds like me. i was told that id mc'ed by my gp then after bleeding had stopped still knew i was pg, did a test BFP went for a scan and they didnt check the tubes, just said that there was nothing in my womb. took bloods but my HCG levels doubled, then i started bleeding black stuff, went back and my tube had just ruptured! v scary!

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:50

No Lissie, lost right tube in December. Surgery - was only 6 wks but was told there was no hope to save it and apparently it was close to rupturing when they took it out! Almost cancelled the scan as from the bloods they told me the pregnancy was "proceeding normally." Yikes!

You?

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:50

SGK how are you hun?

PE got a bfp, shes 7w(?) and beanie is in the right place!

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 22:45

hows everyone doing?? any BFP that I have missed?

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:44

did you have a ruptured ep? or do you still have both tubes?

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:43

understandable! PE's sure that the HSG has helped her concieve this LO, apparently it flushes the tube out!

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:42

East London. Not really. Good friends away or working, MIL in the north, SIL travelling...mum in the US . Seriously, I'll be fine...hopefully DH can get 1 solid hour off from school. THe main issue is it's the first day back from half term...

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:29

lol. where are you? is there anyone else who can come with?

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:27

I hope my husband can make it to the procedure. He missed my drs appt last week and boy was I cross. Probably irrationally so, but it just felt like...he didn't think it was important! I haven't really thought about what I will do if it's not great news. The result comes two days later. In my mind, I will have this test and all will be well. Like, I'll start trying w/e after! I guess there's no harm in having positive thoughts!

I asked if there would be gas and air available -"No it won't be that painful." I'm thinking - you don't understand, any excuse will do!
