TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

Lissie its interesting that your consultant has suggested this, I was going to ask my consultant about it at ivf appointment on wednesday. I thought they only gave it to you if you werent ov which I am pretty sure I am. you must be as well as you have had the chemical pg since your ep. I have been thinking if he would prescribe it I would like to give it a try before ivf. I wish wednesday would hurry up I have got so many question going around in my head.

cedar12 · 10/06/2007 09:25

Genidef great news about the tube. Aparently your tube can get eggs from either ovaries. Not sure how common it is though. Its all quite close together down there.
Lissie just looked up clomiphene in my bnf it is the same as clomid, 2 of my friends have got pregnant using this. Fingers crossed your tube ok. I will be thinking of you on monday.

Genidef · 09/06/2007 21:50

Well...doing things like not answering the phone this afternoon when DD asleep!! We're going to go for it, but I think I may just have missed my chances for this month.

Have you also heard those theories that you can still get pregnant from the other ovary, that they move around somehow?...I guess not one to count on though.

lissie · 09/06/2007 15:58

oh thats brilliant!! so whats the next step?

Genidef · 09/06/2007 14:55

Have yet to go down the clomid type route yet lissie. hope someone comes along shortly...

dr called at - 10.45 pm - to say all was well. My mum was like: was she sober? a bit late, but I guess better late than never?!

hope everyone having good w/e...

lissie · 09/06/2007 13:18

well got letter from the specialist today and apparently if my tube is ok on mon i will be on 100mg clomiphene, anyone used it? is it the same as clomid? im a bit confused now. does that mean that someting showed up on my tests?

cedar12 · 09/06/2007 09:47

Sorry to worry Gendef it was me who got the false good news. But the dr werent very clear with me looks good so far they said but then wouldnt say any thing else. If they said your tube looked lovely and clear sounds fine to me.

lissie · 08/06/2007 18:27

fingers crossed for you GEnidef.

PE, great news!! not long to go now!

Genidef · 08/06/2007 17:08

great to hear about the heartbeat pinkelephant. It's amazing seeing tiny little bean, isn't it?!

Drs sec just rang to say that sorry, don't work on Fridays, can't help you with the results and Mrs so and so is up in the west end, nothing she can do either sorry, will ring when she can. They promised to call on Weds with the results.

I hope it's all okay. I am only wary as I think someone even posting on this thread got "false good news" once and it turned out to be wrong...don't want to count chickens. HOPE I'm being paranoid.

PinkElephant · 08/06/2007 16:25

Hi to Genidef too. Glad to hear the HSG results were positive.

I am quite sure you three are not the only ones left, maybe the other are just not MN'ing anymore.

Iam good thanks and had my second scan at 8wks this week. My beanies is 2sm in size and we saw the flickering heartbeat. 3.5wks to go until 12wks scan. Aaah!!

Hello Pink Elephant glad your doing well, you mustnt be that far from 12 weeks now we have decieied to go for ivf feeling quite positive about it so fingers crossed.
Good Luck for monday Lissie. Just the 3 of us left now ttc after ep.
Genidef sounds like good news about hsg if they said the dye went through fine I am sure it ok.

lissie · 08/06/2007 14:35

it was a vaginal scan. they didnt even check my tubes. it was on my 2nd scan (which i insisted on btw) that they saw it.

Genidef · 08/06/2007 14:31

Did they mention a transvaginal scan to you? the same thing happened to me. It's AMAZING how misinformed these people are about Ectopics. The guy didn't see anything in the womb either, but he wouldn't with in external ultrasound.

lissie · 08/06/2007 14:25

here it is! they missed mine too. scanned me 1w before my tube ruptured, no baby in my womb, but BFP didnt think to check my tubes did they

Genidef · 08/06/2007 14:22

I'm actually going private, BUPA agreed to pay probably because the lady who was assessing the request had it done and took pity on me. So, she's coining it and delivering this service.

No, I didn't see that re your consultant. I'm sorry to hear that - did you complain?! They can be really blunt and also pretty darned mixed in terms of skills. Went to another shocker in Dec (also private) who failed to pick up on my ectopic - was in the hospital bleeding and in agony two hours later. Same guy who has been given recommendations on this site over the last few weeks. Being the paranoid type, I've kept quite as guess what one of his sidelines is - advising doctors on legal matters?!

lissie · 08/06/2007 14:17

thats ridiculous! honestly, the nhs is just getting worse! did you see my thread about our specialist making me cry?

Genidef · 08/06/2007 14:14

Cedar12 I saw that you replied to me re your tube - sorry to not have noted and also sorry to hear about MIL and the bl*** cock up. nosey woman.

Lissie - no we are TTC too, just had HSG on Monday am. Dr was supposed to call Weds with teh results, didn't yet. Same woman who when i called to say how much pain was in after surgery for the ectopic, didn't botehr to ring back. Anyway, have put another call through. dr doing it said remaining tube was "filling beautifully" but now I'm panicing because what if he's got it wrong? What's with this delay "AIBU?!" HSG okay by the way - cramps do come on a bit strong when the dye goes in, but then I have NO pain threashold.

Good luck ladies XX

lissie · 08/06/2007 13:16

cant get an appt at docs will ask on mon for some.

how are you doing PE?

are we the only ttc after an ep-ers then?

PinkElephant · 08/06/2007 12:27

Hi ladies,
Just popped to in to see how you both are. Good luck with the HSG Lissie. I got some antibiotic cover there and then, but had gone the GP's the day before like Cedar did just incase they didn't provide any. I took brufren and hour before also. I didn't hang around after, so in total it took about 30mins.
Cedar - thats awful regarding the surgery and your private info going to your MIL!!!
Things are going weel so far my end....don't want to rattle on about it to you though as that would be so insensitive of me!!

cedar12 · 08/06/2007 10:23

Started antibiotics a day or so before. Sorry I should have said sooner. Could you get a Gp appointment today

lissie · 08/06/2007 10:20

did you do that before or after?

cedar12 · 08/06/2007 10:18

I am sure it will be fine. Remember to take some pain killers, I got my gp to prescribe some antibiotics just in case. To cover the possibility of infection. Mine wasnt to bad painful when the dye went in, But felt fine afterwards.

lissie · 08/06/2007 10:14

yes, its on monday morning at 8.45. tbh im really nervous about it now!

cedar12 · 08/06/2007 10:13

All in all took about an hour. 1/2 an hour for the hsg and 1/2 waiting about. Is yours next week? Ask them to show you the screen to see the dye going through.

lissie · 08/06/2007 09:55

no excuse tho!

how long did you have to hang around for with your HSG?
