TTC for 6 months+ thread #1

Hi all. Just checking in, now on day 10 of cycle 8. I am sad that there still hasn't been a single bfp on this thread. Zoe and divine, I am really sceptical of the claim that "a year is normal" and my GP even said two years is normal. Hmm, doesn't feel like it when other women are pregnant before they can say boo. I have my own ignorant and made up theory that once you are doing all the right things and you get past four to six months, its not that you can't get pregnant, but let's be real, there is probably an issue. It won't be as easy as it is for optimally fertily women. Just look at this thread compared to the busses where BFPs on cycle 1 are flipping ten a penny.
I don't know what my issue is yet but I am sure there is one!
I am thinking of trying Agnus Castus next, would this be a bit of a silly/bad thing to do? Anyone else considered it?

Yes your probably right Mbire. I think it's just difficult to think that there isn't a problem, especially if your doing everything right. Too much stressing perhaps!

Girls honestly, there is probably nothing wrong with most of us! It just takes this long in many cases. from what I have heard not conceiving in the first few months does not mean there is a problem. 60% will conceive in the first 6 months, 80% in the first year and 95% in two years. There's hope for us all!

How old are you now simply divine? Yes, I think 21 is a super fertile age. However, I can't imagine that there would be anything seriously stopping you from conceiving, just because you have before. You were very lucky before. It must be a bit of a surprise for you now in regard to how difficult you are finding it.

Congratulations on your weight loss by the way. I think that when you are trying to conceive, it's so important to be as healthy as you can but I don't think your weight would stop conceiving you unless you are really overweight.

Don't beat yourself up about it and think it's you. It could equally be your OH and if your stressing it really won't help you.

Do you use ovulation sticks?

Thanks Zoe. It's my second DC but first for my DP so could equally be him. If my tests show nothing I'll have the 21 day test and then DP with have a SA. It's 8 years since I had ds and he was an accident so there was none of this waiting. I was only 21 so maybe I was super fertile?! I didn't even know about ovulation then. I'm about a stone heavier now than I was then too and I understand fat makes oestrogen. I lost two stone last year before we started to get my bmi closer to a healthy range.
I'm just constantly looking for reasons why it hasn't happened yet. DP has dramatically decreased his alcohol consumption, he's a healthy weight and fit and has a good diet. I also make him take zinc every day. I can't help but think it's me despite having had no pregnancy issues in the past.

Hi simply divine - sorry to hear that your going through a rough time with Ttc also.

The positive thing is that you have been pregnant before so surely nothing could have dramatically gone wrong with your fertility between the conception of your DC and now. Also, that's great that your having tests carried out so hopefully if there is something wrong, you will find out soon enough.

I'm with you on the whole idea of it taking up to 12 months to conceive. If you know how to track your ovulation and you Dtd at the correct times, your not stressed out - surely if you don't conceive within a couple of months, there is a problem. I have always thought that and after six months, my DP and i had tests done and he has a lower than optimal SC so hopefully that is our only problem, not that it's a great problem to have.

Hi everyone, please can I join you? I am currently on cycle 10 TTC to conceive no2 and just fed up with it all. I am due to test on 12th April. My cycles have never settled since coming off the pill in Feb last year and I have been suffering with fatigue, ovulation pain, spotting before my period (2-3 days starting with red and then brown and then full period), and periods so heavy I gave to use pads and tampons together.
I went to the docs last week about these things and they want me to have full bloods on day 2-5 of my cycle. In a way I hope they find something and that's why it's taking so long and then I can be fixed. I know they say a year is normal, but really, is it?!
I also came off the buses because I was down about the constant well done for conceiving on cycle no 1!

aidy Af arrived today and I'm off on hols tomorrow for a week. I'll be ringing when I get back as I can now reasonably predict my next cycle and can try and schedule my bloods test for the May cycle. So may be a week or so but I'll let you know what my GP says.

Bluebird my spotting is just like that. If I wasn't specifically looking for it I probably wouldn't notice it for the first few days and then it gradually gets heavier until it turns into a normal period. I've always counted the first day of my cycle as being from the first day of the red blood. I hope my gp is wrong about this. Will you let me know what yours says?

aidy I have 28-31 day cycles and spotting for 3-5 days before. The first day or two is almost nothing but maybe pink or brown cm. Then it's more brown and stringy a couple days before af starts. I've always counted the first day of my cycle as first day or red flow. Now I'm worried I've got it wrong. But I'm same...it would make my lp very short. It's so frustrating not knowing what's going on. I'm having bloods done on day 2/3/4 and then 21. Not until May though as I'm on holiday during the first week of my next cycle. I better ring my GP and see when my cycle starts counting.

Omg Aidy that is so confusing. I heard that you should count the first day of your heavy bleeding as the first day of your cycle!!

I know what you mean about the whole process. It is just so unfair!

Bluebird the spotting usually lasts for 5 days and then the normal heavy period starts. It's fairly consistent actually, I have a 26 day cycle, I seem to ov on about day 13 and the spotting starts 8 days later. The gp said that I need to class the first day of spotting as the first day of my cycle but if this is correct then that means I have an 8 day luteal phase which is too short so I'm not sure I buy that. This whole process is just so difficult, why do some people have such difficulty getting pregnant and others can't stop having them. My granny had 13 kids and didn't want about 11 of those, it so ironic that I am desperate for more and can't seem to manage it!

aidy if you don't mind my asking how long does your spotting go on for?

So i went to the doctors this morning about my pre af spotting and she's referred me to the gynaecology unit at my local hospital. She still didn't seem overly concerned about it but referred me because of the length of time it's been happening. I've just booked my appointment for 19th may so the waiting list isn't as long as I've been led to believe (I live in leeds).

Eugh - think I chose the wrong line of work. Two weeks off!! - for Easter! So jealous! Not jealous of the family visiting though!

Really hope that AF stays away from you. You never know. Fingers massively crossed x

Boo for going back to work zoe. I work in a school so have 2 weeks off, which is great but we have family visiting the whole time so not much of a break! Cycles vary 28-31 days so af due between sun-tues. I think I'm out though as I woke up to sore boobs today...a standard pre-af sign for me.

I have been in agony today with AF Pains - such a waste of a day off!! The spotting before AF is just annoying, nobody wants to use more tampons than they need to. I'm hoping that it won't happen next cycle, my doctor doesn't really listen either so I really don't want to have to tell her that that's my latest bizarre symptom!!

That sucks Kitty and I'm kind of in the same boat as you - I've been ill all weekend so haven't been able to go anywhere or do anything fun . Absolutely dreading work tomorrow.

Ooh not long until you can test bluebird. When is af due?

I've been getting over a flu type bug so have spent most of Easter sat on my arse watching box sets. Work is going to be a shock tomorrow!

I also have spotting. It's anywhere from 2-5 days before af and 1-2 days after. My gp didn't seemed concerned but I'm not sure she really was listening. . I'm 10dpo (I think) but not testing for a few days at least. Hope everyone had a nice Easter.

Aidy I also think that it's hormone related, definitely don't think that it's anything major. I am still spotting!! I thought that AF would have started properly now :s. If you do find anything out about it, please let me know as I'm not going to get anywhere with my GP.

The reason why I would like to be tested for endo is because I have very heavy periods, ridiculously painful periods, cramping in the lower left side of my pelvis. Also, I have been to A&E twice now (both happend on the weekends annoyingly) with the most excruciating pain in my pelvis (concentrated to one side only). I had scans carried out about three weeks later, both times, in order to find out what it was but they have never found anything and the last time it Happend, my doctor said that it was pro ably a cyst and they can be caused by Endo.
