TTC for 6 months+ thread #1

Shemozzle · 23/02/2016 22:25

Anyone care to join me? The monthly bus threads just starting to get me down, I'm starting to feel bitter about congratulating all the first month of trying BFP's and so I need to step away. I was very lucky to have conceived accidentally somewhat miraculously with my dd1 and dd2 and always imagined I'd struggle if actually trying, and here we are.

I'm 29, dp is 43
TTC number 3
Cycle 6
Cd1

Hi all,
Can I join too? We've been TTC for nearly a year. I'm on cycle 11 - currently CD23 of 25-26 day cycle.

This finally feels like the thread for me. I am so bored of TTC. It seems to have sapped all joy out of doing the deed and sex is now a chore.

I'm going to be 36 in a few weeks and we are trying for #1 so I can't help feeling time is running out.

I went for 21 day blood test last week and am waiting for results and DH is booked in for tests next week.

Everyone just says to me that it will happen and to book a holiday or change jobs and then it will happen but I am now so dispondant. I just want to shout 'what if it doesn't'.

Sorry to sound negative but I think this is a group that understands!

KatOnATinRo0f · 26/02/2016 22:36

i had a quick read stark, i cba to read much they are going round in circles saying the same thing.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 20:24

That's my problem kat I would say that, I have no filter with medical people and my mouth just opens and I go "words words words cognitive thought process disengaging more words!" Grin

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 20:22

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2579614-we-re-not-ttc-but-we-re-not-using-any-protection

This is the thread kat some standard mn aibu rudeness but overall I found it quite interesting so far, some people have some odd opinions!

KatOnATinRo0f · 26/02/2016 19:00

Also stark ("Starks"?? Where-t-f did that come from?) could you please post the link to the aibu thread? You do find some mn gems.

I am going in blind next month. No OPKs. I'm hoping it might actually lead to more sex. Rather than "no not tonight I'm not ovulating" just because I didn't get a line on my stick

KatOnATinRo0f · 26/02/2016 18:56

Lol @ Starks 2am message. That's exactly what you'd say to a doc. And they'd just politely tell you to go away.

MancombSeepgood · 26/02/2016 18:30

Also I am doing the total opposite of you fishy and starky as I started off the relaxed way for a few months, just dtd a lot, and I have worked my way up to obsessive temping, opks and all the faffing Grin hope it works for you both, enjoy the break from stress.

MancombSeepgood · 26/02/2016 16:45

Baking queen I have the same issue, ovulation on day 18 and 28 day cycles. Thinking about trying evening primrose oil to bring ov forward. Concerned that implantation will be a big issue for me, especially as I had a chemical in December. I think I have low progesterone because I usually have spotting from 7/8dpo to AF Sad

But as Starkey said, I don't think my doctor would be impressed if I turned up and announced that I have diagnosed myself from the Internet haha.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 16:41

Agree fishy I'm trying to reel myself bacm in a bit (ha incidental pun!)
It's been a concious effort for me to not look at ovia, not immediately do an opk at 2 pm from cd 7 onwards.

Has anyone seen the debate going on in aibu about what 'ttc' means? There's some interesting arguments!

LovelyFishy · 26/02/2016 16:34

The idea of trying to keep chill about it all is what I'm going to try and do this month too. No sticks or anything, just aiming for dtd every other day. Though dh and I are both shift workers so that's sometimes easier said than done!

Here's to the most relaxed month so far!

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 16:26

I've decided for this cycle I'm going in "blind" in that I'm not doing opk's yet I'm not poking my cervix or studiously examining the fanny juice which comes out. No temping. Just aiming for dtd every other day all month and seeing what happens. Im sort of in a mindset that if I don't "try" it might happen!

I'm not sure about it not having enough time baking it's a tricky one. I'll have to do a bit of reading on that, I find luteal phases mind boggling. And for every answer, there's always someone who had the opposite happen to them!

bakingqueen25 · 26/02/2016 15:44

Starky - your message last night really made me laugh, this could be me!! The doctor I saw gave me the impression I was being a bit impatient - his advice was to go away and have lots of 'good sex' - if only it were that easy!

I've been having 27 days cycles since coming off the pill, which I know is nice and quick, but if I've ovulated on day 17 ish - does that not give enough sticking time?!!

Where are you at with everything Starky - what's next?xx

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 15:28

From opk's, I think I ovulate at about cd 17/18 too baking I'm waiting impatiently on this cycle to see if last month's 33 day quickie was an anomaly, I fully expect to be back to a hellish 40+ dayer this time . It's so confusing.

bakingqueen25 · 26/02/2016 14:53

Hello everyone - glad I'm not alone!

I actually went and saw a consultant, as I just have this nagging feeling that my progesterone levels are low. He was patient, but told me that I really need to give it more time. He said I struck him as someone who likes to be in control - which is sort of why I think I'm finding this all so hard.

I'm now waiting for his letter to report on my 5.2 score, but I don't think I ovulated until day 17, so I timed the test all wrong didn't I? I just figured it would show ovulation either way, didn't appreciate the timing had to be so precise.

What's everyone trying/doing next? This month I am trying - relaxing! xxx

bluebird3 · 26/02/2016 12:51

I went to the GP this week and even though she didn't want start tests yet, she was fine...despite my crazy babble and shoving my bbt charts at her. As annoying as it is, it is normal for it to take a year or even two for normal healthy couples, so you probably will get an eye roll if you're going in before a year. But if you are stressed and anxious then it's worth it to let them know it's affecting your emotional and mental health and get some reassurance. And if you are having any red flags then that's worth bringing up early as well as it might trigger some tests faster. Thanks

Lily35 · 26/02/2016 12:35

Hi ladies, I've been watching the thread. I've been TTC for over 2 yrs and it's been a long and heartbreaking journey. I wanted to say that my doc was great and I had a scan booked only a couple of weeks after I first went in. He totally understood my worries and the necessity to get checked. Since then the hospital fertility clinic has been fab.

LovelyFishy · 26/02/2016 12:31

It's the sort of thing you'd love to pop down the doctors for and get some advice/reassurance. But of course there will be no appointments free for weeks and then when you've told them they'll give you that look! I can't decide if that's a pessimistic or realistic view! But if you truly think something might be up, even if it isn't anything major, I don't think you should be afraid to go. Never mind if they think you're a bit mad, this is more important! Smile

StarkyTheDirewolf · 26/02/2016 02:10

baking I know what you mean "hello doctor, I am worried about my ovaries, and my fallopian tubes, and the hospitality of my womb in general. I've been having sex regularly, measuring where my cervix sits and weeing on little sticks I got from amazon to calculate the level of a hormone I don't really understand and I'm not pregnant yet, what's your opinion? "

how do you even approach it without sounding batshit!? I'll be honest, I'm cd 10 and I've taken to drink! Had my second glass of wine in a week! usually I don't drink at all

KatOnATinRo0f · 25/02/2016 22:41

Hey baking I honestly have no idea about what a progesterone level should be.

Zoefitness · 25/02/2016 21:53

Aw hi lovely - it sucks doesn't it. Sick of going thro the same disappointment every month now. It's ruining my sex life!!

Baking queen, what is the next step for you now? Has your oh had is swimmers test done?

LovelyFishy · 25/02/2016 15:54

Hi everyone.

This thread - in an odd way - makes me feel so much better. I thought I was the only one! When all you hear is everyone else getting pregnant in their first month...

Ttc #1 since September 2015, cycle 6's hopes just ended with AF arriving yesterday so feeling a bit down right now. I know that with everyone being just fine and healthy it can still take time, but it's so frustrating!

bakingqueen25 · 25/02/2016 15:39

Hello - room for one more?!

We are on cycle 6 - and after going private, I've had some initial progesterone tests which came back at 5.2nmol/L for day 20 which I know isn't great.

I have a funny feeling something is off kilter with my hormones, but how do tell a doctor that without them looking at you like you've gone mad?!

xx

Zoefitness · 25/02/2016 12:58

Thank you for the info kat. Xx

Zoefitness · 25/02/2016 12:54

Aw bluebird that is so frustrating for you. I had a similar instance, only it was my friend who decided to tell me that had happened to her friend and she apparently hates children so is thinking about having an abortion..how sensitive of my friend to tell me this information!!

I think that it's a lot to do with timing. I too have the same opinion, I want to conceive the natural romantic way!!

bluebird3 · 25/02/2016 11:17

Yeah, I was surprised as I thought a year in would trigger something. I think as there are no actual signs anything is wrong, the GP thinks we're jut unlucky. I'd be up for private tests but dh is a nhs doctor and agrees with the GP. And to be honest, one of my good friends just went through every test imaginable and eventually had IVF (she's now 34 weeks!). But the whole process is so demoralising and takes all the magic out of getting pregnant, I'd rather try a bit longer the old fashioned way. I'll definitely do the Ivf if it comes to it though, just hoping I'm just unlucky and not a barren, dried up prune! Which is how i feel most days. Sad
