We did a half hour lecture on "safe sex" which mainly constituted our PSE Teacher being red and flustered and showing how to roll a condom onto a banana badly which I wouldn't believe if I hadn't seen showing us pictures of horrific cases of genital hepes and syphilis. Other than that we had a "religious" take on it which has scarred me to this day with the videos they showed abortion, hellfire and damnation and a biology lesson with basic line pictures of genitals. I can only hope it's better now!

choc I'm so so sorry for your friend. Flowers

iPatches I read your post this morning and you've been on my mind all day. I had an MMC last year at 14 weeks, so I totally empathise with what you're saying. It isn't just the baby you hoped you'd have but it takes all the gloss of the whole process, then and now. In my case getting to 12 weeks seemed like everything was going to be fine, but as my hospital were so busy over the summer my '12 week' scan was actually at 13+4, so I was almost a third of the way through the whole pregnancy before we knew.

Personally (and not to make anyone feel bad about saying it) hearing that it's really common isn't really that helpful , for me anyway. Knowing loads of people are going through the same horrible situation actually made me feel worse!

Especially as it isn't actually that common; overall, miscarriages are high in the first 12 weeks, but so many are so early you might not even know you're having one. I found this website really helpful, to show how unlikely miscarriage is the further along you get.
spacefem.com/pregnant/mc.php?m=08&d=10&y=12
To put it in context, once you get towards the end of your 5th week, you've a less than 10% chance of miscarrying.

SO, all in all, happy TTC to everybody, try not to worry about something until you've got something to worry about (so easy to say, but SO hard to do!)

All we can do is try our best and keep our fingers crossed Star

Hi everyone & welcome newbies ☺

Also a church school girl. Our head was real old school & refused sex education but was forced to include on to curriculum eventually. Her take was to scare the crap out of us that anything over & above holding a boys hand would lead to impending pregnancy & the deepest fires of hell! I'm sure there was 2 pregnant girls sitting at said lecture and a few more after that. We were left with literally no clue about sex or conception. Guess I was lucky in that it could have open chats with my mum.

choc so sorry to here your sad news. Slapped cheek is more common than we believe. I asked my GP about it during my first pregnancy & she said that just about everyone now a days has immunity due to the amount of vaccinations we receive & it's usually a mild case kids pick up.

Ttc is a long hard emotional road, but a great one to travel when it eventually all comes together. Here's to all the bfp's over the next few months 🙌

harrietm87 · 18/02/2016 14:00

Hi all! I've been away a few days and have missed loads!

harriet age 29, cycle 2 cd18.
I was midway through my double length fw when OH proposed and we've been discussing whether to put off TTC until we get married so have stopped trying for this cycle. Depending on which app was right it might be too late though!!!

What do you think we shd do? I'd like to have something casual and small either this summer or next. If this summer we'd wait to TTC til afterwards, if next then we'd keep trying and hope the baby was born well before!

Ni4444 · 18/02/2016 13:56

Aw Feefs!! Hugs Flowers or bloody flowers cos that's all MN allows!

Feefeefs · 18/02/2016 13:54

I read it despite the warning. Do not read in work hiding now having a cry

Ni4444 · 18/02/2016 13:43

Hey ladies. Warning here. ..article about miscarriage. If you think it'll be too upsetting please don't read it. I'm sharing it because society doesn't talk about these things and I believe that not talking leaves people so alone and isolated. I hope we all have healthy and happy pregnancies, but as we know miscarriage happens, and it's horrible, and it's traumatic, and women tend to blame themselves. So I'd like to think that in this thread, or within our own circles, we can make little movements towards acknowledging that this is normal, horrifically difficult, but part of life.

Choc, so sorry about your friend, that is so sad :( hope you're ok. Thanks

Chocaholic88 · 18/02/2016 11:34

I had a chat to her this morning. She goes in tomorrow to be induced. She's holding together far better than I think I would. Bless her heart

iwillbemrsminty · 18/02/2016 11:11

Hi fellow newbies and hi to the oldies Grin

AF has arrived this morning making my first real post-pill cycle 30 days. Good to know. I'll be cracking open that wine tomorrow night for sure!

So sorry to hear about your friend choc, Flowers. Good luck to you at the docs.

C'mon ladies, we need some more BFP's!

Dubbya · 18/02/2016 10:40

I mean another ic

Dubbya · 18/02/2016 10:40

Don't know whether to do another if today or try and wait a couple of days to see if af shows...

Dubbya · 18/02/2016 10:37

Hi newbies 👋🏻

So sorry about your friend choc, I can't even imagine! Hope docs goes okay. Working in a school we get instances of slap cheek a lot!

So I'm 14dpo today. Still no af. This is getting annoying now!

Kathrino · 18/02/2016 10:19

So sorry about your friend choc, how heartbreaking. I hope you get on okay at the docs too.

Zazzles, you're definitely not out. 10 DPO is still really early and there's plenty of time for your levels to rise.

Feefeefs · 18/02/2016 10:08

Thanksfor your friend choc and hope you get on okay at the doctors.

I am knackered now ISW over. Trying to hard to stay positive but niggling little thoughts keep creeping in, like what if that didn't work? What the hell will! I never saw much EWCM and usually do but I think that's because of all the man potion.

AHHHH I think I need to go home and shout into a pillow. Also I have completely gone off alcohol, no idea why

SuchaJem · 18/02/2016 09:24

and you* managed to dodge the bug

SuchaJem · 18/02/2016 09:24

Sorry to hear about your friend choc :( that is terribly sad.

Hope your LOs are alright, and managed to dodge the bug.

Chocaholic88 · 18/02/2016 09:13

It's like a viral infection mainly kids get, mild raised temperature, rosy glowing cheeks (that give it the name) sometimes comes with an upset tummy (my daughter had all last week if anyone remembers). Nothing major for kids and they can only get it once... however it can cause complications of miscarriage if a woman is pregnant so they do a blood test to check if I'm immune of not. If I'm not, I'll need to have frequent scans for the next couple of months to monitor the baby :-/

Confusedcat1 · 18/02/2016 08:56

What is slapped cheek choc?

Chocaholic88 · 18/02/2016 08:52

Morning everyone! How are we all feeling?

Sorry I've been off the map with the photo shoots for work. Any news?

I had some horrible news last night. A dear friend of mine had her 20 week scan yesterday and they found no heartbeat. I'm absolutely heartbroken for her and just didn't know what to say :( they are taking her into hospital tomorrow to induce her. I spent half of last night in tears to my OH, a mix of upset for her and sheer horror at something happening so close to home...

Maybe it's just me but I disn't worry about anything that far along (and I already have two kids!)

Talking of them, off for an emergency blood test tomorrow as both kids have slapped cheek and they need to test my immunity- it can be super dangerous for pregnant women... never a dull moment!

Confusedcat1 · 18/02/2016 08:25

jem that sounds very positive!

lara I'd test with another free if I was you :)

ipatches I can only imagine how you feel, you just have to keep reminding yourself that as shitty as it is, it is really common, especially for first time pregnancies and it absolutely doesn't mean that you can't have a normal healthy pregnancy. But I understand that it takes the exciting edge off it. BUT if you get pregnant again this month the worst thing you can do is worry because stress won't help, so try distract yourself. I battle with a lot of anxiety and I find distraction the best for me. I'm sure we can come up with some kind of fun hobby for you :) anyway, big hugs from me xxxxxxxx
