Symptom spotters, tww - ers, slightly hysterical hormone laden ladies! Regs, lurkers, intermittent posters! Our raison d'etre is 'am I pregnant?' Depending on how much Ovia (Whybird/Ovibitch) has pissed us off/messed with our fw she is either the oracle or a sanctimonious charlatan.

Just a warning, we move FAST! Our threads last on average, about a week before they're full.

We do not judge, we enjoy TMI, we i encourage waiting to poas nobody listens and all the grossness you can find from a group of intelligent, articulate ladies. Fart stories make us laugh, stories about cervical mucus, pooing, cysts and nausea equally welcome.

So much for the bring casual approach, roaringly positive OPK (looks even darker in real life) and trying to convince myself not to jump DH's bones when he walks in the door! Still trying to keep to our 'every other day' routine and it falls on tonight luckily.

As for the birth stories, I think I want a water birth. My friends who've had one thoroughly recommend it.

When my cousin had her first baby, she rather unexpectedly had him at home. A few minutes after he was born, her neighbours dropped a congratulations card through the door, obviously having experienced the whole thing through the walls with her!

jem best time to opk is mid afternoon. Lh synthesises in your body between 10-8, so doing one mid afternoon will increase your chances of knowing if you're about to ovulate. They are confusing at first, but if you buy bulk of the same brand and are consistent with doing them then they are quite enlightening. I wish I'd started tracking with opks 6 months before we started actively ttc, so I'd understand my cycle better. I'll explain. ..

Basically, cycle one in December, I started doing opk's at about 2 weeks after af. I was getting almost positives, then it was Christmas and I didn't take any with me to my dps. So when I got back, and started doing them again, I was still getting high readings on my test line. I didn't know when I'd ovulated. So this cycle I did an opk from the day after af finished. From my opk's I have quite a high natural level of lh generally (which would tally with last monthseason opks), but I got a day of a peak lh and then two days of solid positives.

Since then, my lh level has gone back down, but is still "high" for what other people have. (I have two fairly visible lines, but definetly not positive tests, if that makes sense) so I know my best chance of catching the egg was to dtd on the day of my peak, the day of my positives, and then for a couple of days after too. Because a positive opk only indicates that you are about to ovulate, not that you have released an egg yet. So in December, because I started doing opk's later, and then missed a few days, I completely missed my fw. Obviously opk's aren't fool proof in that, despite getting positives and banging like a shit house door in a storm all weekend, there's only a 15-20% chance of a sperm actually finding and penetrating the egg, then it had to travel and implant. There's 100 different things which can stop this.

This brings me on to early testing and why I don't think it's a good thing. A sperm can meet, and fertilise an egg, it can implant. If you were testing early, this would give you a positive pregnancy test. Then the egg fails to survive or implant properly and you start to bleed and have what's known as a chemical pregnancy, which is a very very early miscarriage. Unless you're actively ttc and testing, you wouldn't even know and would assume the bleeding was your period.

I'm a fan of opk's, because I have a long cycle, I also don't think I ovulate from my right ovary. I can feel my egg being released on the left (and have for years) I've not noticed it for a long time on my right. So with opk's I can keep track of if/when I'm ovulating. This month I bought 60 from amazon for abiut £8. Next cycle I will probably also temp, and I'm looking into lube which encourages sperm to swim (pre seed or balance active conceive gel) it sounds silly, but I want to maximise my chances each cycle. I get 9 chances a year, whereas most people have 12. Im also not sure I ovulate each cycle. Dh already has a child so I wouldn't necessarily qualify for help on the nhs, and there's no way we could afford it ourselves so I'm just trying to cover all bases!

Aaaand Starky manages to do yet another essay for everyone to struggle through!

I have to share this - went to a baby sensory class today with my dear sis in law and my new niece. I was the only one without a babe! Hahaha I must have looked like a right spare part. I enjoyed it though! never seen so many newborns in one room, it was kind of overwhelming. Especially when they all started crying at once

Our nice neighbours on one side have just moved out, but their house isn't up for sale yet. And the neighbours on the other side can kiss my labouring, mooing arse. They're noisy, rude bastards who don't give a fig for others.

Some examples include having cowboys workmen remove our fence without telling us, then being shitty about putting it back, then putting it back badly so the dogs nearly got out. And then another set of cowboys workmen park directly across our drive every day for three weeks and throwing stuff from their roof which blew across and hit our car. I'm not usually a knob but I told them if they didn't sort it I'd ring environmental health and the council and have their planning permission revoked on the grounds they were working dangerously and illegally! I was furious, and it was 6:45 am!

starky I still haven’t peed on one of those darn sticks!! I got in a bit late last night and went almost straight back out again. I do have some ewcm so my strategy was bang DH as much as possible until that disappears. Have plans straight after work again tonight, so not opking window again. I may attempt a go tomorrow and over the weekend and see what I get. I must admit, they sound rather hit and miss? Are they trustworthy?

Hmmmmm forgot about the neighbours! And think nearest hosp would be a good 20 min drive away (we live in a small town in the sticks) ...will just have to wait and see what's possible and what's not. I've not told dh my wishes yet, he will probably have a heart attack when he finds out. I think he would rather I was strapped down to a hospital bed.
But for me, since working in a hospital I've developed a completely OTT aversion to being a patient. It seems to induce mild hysteria. I can't even pluck up the courage to give blood anymore, even the thought of a needle going in make me want to vom. Strangely enough I don't mind being around my patients when they have various attachments and are in ill health! Just my luck that I'll probably end up having a c section!

Sassenach thank you for your lovely message. On being the organised one – I find with most of my female friends they are the organiser in their relationship as well. I think it may be more of a female trait? Holidays, organising the house, weekend plans, family birthday presents, social arrangements are all sorted out by the ladies. DH acknowledges he is terrible at this – I’ve kind of accepted it and taken on mantle of Chief Organiser of Getting Shit Done. Bit more tricky when it comes to TTC – I am doing all of the enticing and it’s not good for the ego!

I'm totally with you Feef when it comes to a hospital birth. Plus as we live in a flat, I don't think I'd really want my neighbours to hear all the gory details!

Starky there are so many TTC sites out there which are basically just a big giant con and taking advantage of people who in a pretty crappy emotional state. It makes me so cross.

In other news, I'm having the worst period pain but no hint of AF at all yet. It doesn't usually happen this way round at all and is most infuriating. All I want to do is go home and have a nice hot bath and get into my pyjamas.

feef I think it's ttc propoganda, I've delved further and it seems mainly to sell basic vitamins for extortionate prices. So for $75 dollars...a month, they send you what is essentially a 30 day supply of pregna care vitamins (£10) in different packaging and with more bulk in the powder so they go further.

I don't like the look of that babyhopesanddreams website starky doesn't seem very evidence based and a few strange pieces of advice on it.

I think I would prefer a hospital birth! I'm a weirdo! Just feel like it would take some of the worry away, there would be other people there to do my worrying!

I'm cycle 3 now too, we are still being fairly casual(in my book) and just shagging more when dates/cm etc seem to add up, not temping or OPK-ing yet. It does feel like a long time sometimes and other times I feel fine about it! I have convinced myself that no one really gets pregnant as fast as they say.

pug you're not alone, I can't see either! Dh keeps telling me he's going to make me go to the opticians! I need a new prescription something rotten...In fact, I'm going to look at glasses frames on glassesdirect now.

I think my mindset with a home birth is that I'd have a dedicated midwife, gas and air and one-to-one care. As few interventions as possible and I know I'd get a birth pool. If I needed help or baby struggled we're 5 minutes away from two hospitals (and another dedicated children's hospital) and it would take longer than that to prep an emergency c-section theatre and find an anaesthetist who was free. My dad and dsis will mind the dogs, Dh will be there and my dm will pop in and out depending in how busy she is!
