Symptom spotters, tww - ers, slightly hysterical hormone laden ladies! Regs, lurkers, intermittent posters! Our raison d'etre is 'am I pregnant?' Depending on how much Ovia (Whybird) has pissed us off/messed with our fw she is either the oracle or a sanctimonious charlatan.

Just a warning, we move FAST! Our threads last on average, about a week before they're full.

Thread 8 , Welcome one and all! Group of weirdos, wee hoarders, covert opk or okp, depending on what your autocorrect decides addicts with a side business in CM management!

We do not judge, we enjoy TMI, we i encourage waiting to poas nobody listens and all the grossness you can find from a group of intelligent, articulate ladies. Fart stories make us laugh, stories about cervical mucus, pooing, cysts and nausea equally welcome. Although normal conversation is also encouraged.

Post your stats and add your dates. We have a register thanks to kat a resident piss stick queen runner loaaaaaads of bfp'ers who keep us positive! We don't have rules, we love a good symptom spot, we try to stay grounded and not be hysterical sometimes we manage it aswell

We like acronyms, we make some up: PET = Proper expensive test. We love the d(h)...which can of course mean 'dearest' or 'dickhead' why, what were you thinking?

Thanks Lara. I was thinking only yesterday that it would be nice if this cycle was shorter! I think I may have had a very early mc last cycle though never had a BFP, just felt so different. Anyway there's no way of knowing that, trying to think positive! How are things with you?

ElleSarcasmo · 27/01/2016 11:35

Kat sorry you're feeling fed up. Sympathy hugs and Flowers and fx this is your month.

Hi Pink!

LaraG13 · 27/01/2016 11:24

Sorry to hear yours out this month elle. As I understand it, variation in the length of a cycle by several days days is normal and still considered to be regular. So your cycles there are classed as regular, even though they're not exactly the same each month. Mine vary as well. Usually around 26-29 days. It's frustrating to never quite know when AF will turn up!

Pinklily1 · 27/01/2016 11:07

Morning ladies, just keeping in the loop! The gross talk has been particularly entertaining in the new thread Smile

Starky, I think that's the greatest dogs name I've ever heard!

Anyway, my stats: Pink, aged 33, grad, currently harbouring baby no.1 - an 8+5 raspberry (or strawberry depending on the App you check).

Choc, get yourself over to the grad thread too. There are a lot of us there to share in your sickness woes Confused

ElleSarcasmo · 27/01/2016 11:05

Impy that is really useful, thanks.

AF has started early here (CD 27) Sad so looks like I'll be on the Feb bus. No idea what day to test given that cycles have been 28,29,33 and now 27 days post pill! Maybe 28 days which would be 24 feb. No AF or any symptoms so that was a bit of a surprise! Roll on next FW.

ImpYCelyn · 27/01/2016 10:03

I do think getting ones which work well is vital. I often see pockets and aios recommended because they're "easy", but then they leak and people get really upset and frustrated and give up. Which is a giant waste of money and goodwill. Fitteds are less cute, and a bit more bulky, but they work. And people aren't stupid, I think it's really patronising to say people can't cope with putting on a fitted, it's like a disposable with Velcro or some buttons, and then the same again over the top. It's not hard. So I always recommend those now.

But you do need to be able to buy them upfront, and some people don't want to have to wash. It's not tons more work, but it is a bit more, so fair enough if people don't want to. And fair enough if people think it's icky. It's not for everyone at all. With ds2, despite having them, I used a load of disposables as I was so tired with two under two. Then I got back to it :) For me it's not so much the money, it's the chemicals. But you do need to weigh up the pros and cons for you. Smile (obviously I'm pro them, but I'm not evangelical. I've sent my share of Huggies to landfill)

Ni4444 · 27/01/2016 09:53

This is amazing Imp Thank you!!!! wikk take me about 9 months to get my head around it all

I'm much more about the eco friendly stuff than my OH is. I'm sure he'll puke at the idea of throwing poopy nappies in the washing machine! let the battle begin

Kathrino · 27/01/2016 09:53

I have to admit that I would never even have considered cloth nappies until I read that but I do like the idea of being able to re-use them and not feel like every bin/rubbish bag is filled with dirty and smelly nappies. Thank you for the info!

ImpYCelyn · 27/01/2016 09:47

Planeteer I'll take nappy wizard although I'd rather be Gandalf Grin

I held off poas. Don't want a bfn.

Choc I'm already at it without one Hmm

Sorry my brief intro was fricking huge! Blush

ImpYCelyn · 27/01/2016 09:43

ever here's a brief overview.

There are several different types of cloth nappy. Most basic are squares of towelling à la old school, which need a waterproof wrap. Then you have fitteds, which are cloth shaped like nappies, and need a waterproof wrap (these are bombproof and super reliable, but can be bulky). Then there are ones where the waterproof is attached to the inside part, but you have to stuff cloth inside to increase absorbency, these are pockets ( can be made up in advance, straightforward, often leak ime). And then you have all in ones, which are as the name suggests and most like disposable nappies (these are a bugger to dry, more expensive, still leak ime, but dead easy to use). And then there's a few weird and wonderful variations. Flips are basically a pad which sits in a wrap. They'd be rubbish for a baby I think, but for a toddler when it's more of a just in case, and who doesn't poo often, they're nice and slim. Some people use them with babies.

Every time I put a disposable on my eldest overnight it leaked or even burst (he was covered in little pee absorbing beads). Bamboo cloth nappy with wrap = no leaks. Although the smell of ammonia was so strong in the morning it made my eyes water!

The initial outlay is high, and puts people off, but if you add it up they are cheaper in the long run than disposables. They massively reduce the chemical exposure compared to disposables. And disposables take between 300 and 700 years to biodegrade, whereas cloth doesn't. Also, depending on your sensibilities, you can buy (and sell) them used. And if you reuse for another baby you are serious quids in compared to disposables and for the planet. I bought fitteds used, I've used them in 2, they're in great condition and will do my third, and then I'll sell them or give them away = win for purse and planet.

Washing - you put them in a bucket with no water and no products. When ready to wash (every 24-72 hours depending on routine, drying times and how many you have), you through them in the machine, rub either a prewash or a rinse, wash on a normal cycle, with a seriously reduced quantity of non-bio powder, and then I hit the extended rinse button. You can line dry, but 15 mins in a tumbler once in a while fluffs them up a bit. You can wash them between 30 and 60. I normally do 40, with a 60 once a month.

Baby poo can go straight in the machine. It sounds grim, but modern machines and powders are more than able to cope with it. Once they're on solids, you tip it down the loo before you bucket them.

If you're washing nappies you can also wash wipes, which is another giant savings. A pre made set of cheeky wipes is about £35 and comes with everything you need, for ever. And that's it. Huggies wipes on offer are 75p per pack. That lasts about 3 days with a baby. Cloth wipes are much better at cleaning poo as well, wipes can sort of smear it. I made my own wipes, so it was even cheaper (I bought some second hand towelling squares and cut them up, not pretty but job done for about £5).

Frugi used to be called Cut4Cloth. All cloth nappies are bulkier than disposables, and these days baby clothes are made to fit over disposables. So vests in particular, but also sleepsuits and trousers can be a tight fit. Frugi makes clothes for cloth nappies. Plus they're organic, fair trade, and bright fun colours. Spendy full price, but okay in the sales.

You can't use normal nappy rash creams, it buffers the absorbency) but you can use stuff like CJs Butter which is divine and free of chemical nasties (it's technically edible). I still use their stuff on my boys.

Here's the nappy lady site for some ideas www.thenappylady.co.uk/reusable-nappies.html

Chocaholic88 · 27/01/2016 09:30

imp that's so true... I did it with both of my previous pregnancies and I'm already randomly googling stuff for this one hahaha

Chocaholic88 · 27/01/2016 09:24

Feeling seriously smug at finally proving to myself I need to be on the grads list (I'm simple today) jahaha

Planeteer · 27/01/2016 09:21

Joining the crew that thinks imp is some sort of nappy wizard. So. Much. To. Learn!
Hope docs goes ok today ever.
Imp re poas, I think it depends how your brain's feeling. Would a bfn make today truly shit? If so, hang fire.

Evergreen15 · 27/01/2016 09:17

And flips and fruggi vests ?? Imp what is this?! Do you save money compared to disposable? I know you must be helping the environment... Although all the washing... So complicated!!!!!!

Evergreen15 · 27/01/2016 09:15

Woo wooow owwww Imp you just spoke a load of gibberish to me. I need to get inside tour brain for this cloth nappies business. Do you have some links? How do you get rid of the crap wash them?
What os this pockets/ fitted thing? DO TELL!

ImpYCelyn · 27/01/2016 09:09

Guys, ff says AF is due today )or yesterday). I normally come on first thing. I have spotting and cramps, but no AF. I missed fmu, but... Should I do one?

IndiX · 27/01/2016 09:08

Checking in very late!! Haven't had a chance to read through but hope you are all well.

Any more bfps? X

ImpYCelyn · 27/01/2016 09:07

Kat and Kathrino no one tells you, but once you get a bfp you will suddenly discover there is a powerful mystical force in the universe which compels you to spend vast amounts of free time and time when you should be working reading reviews, blogs, info pages, watching you tube videos on "what's in my changing/hospital bag"... And then suddenly you know everything. until the baby comes and you realise a practical course would have been more useful GrinGrin

Ni4444 · 27/01/2016 09:05

Thanks choc, I'm going to run and hide in a corner now now and await starkys wrath... Yes we are scared of you 😂😂😂😂😂

KatOnATinRo0f · 27/01/2016 09:01

Catching up from last night

Jam have added you to 6+4...
any final bets? we still have some slots free?!!

stark we dont even have a spare room for a baby/nursery :'( we have a 2bed flat and the second bed is a pretty big(weirdly shaped) room which has wardrobes/chest of drawers/big rack of shoes/big craft chest full of wool/sewing machine/spare double bed (which we were thinking to get rid of but actually it is a handy underneath storage for things like the xmas tree)/bookcases of old uni work and also DH's office - with desk/computer/filing cabinets. The plan is to somehow squeeze the baby in there. UMMMMM (I'm thinking i will just throw away all of my possessions).

i love pinterest. a lot. although ive had to stop following all the wedding ones now. i havent started looking at baby things. so its mostly just crochet things.

So I'm feeling pretty rubbish about this month. We just did not DTD enough. only about 3 x in the whole of the time post-AF and during FW. according to OPK we may have got one in at the right time, and i know it takes only 1, but still... I'm just feeling its not enough. I'm not sure why DH has not been bothered, i wonder if he's getting a bit pissed off with the whole thing. half of me wants to relax next month, not do OPK, not mention it to him, just try to d2d around the right time the whole month but half of me thinks FFS this will be month 7... have to pull out all the stops, and try and chart/calculate more things.

impy i have absolutely no idea at all what you are talking about re: babies and nappies. Its like a different language to me. Does someone tell you about all this when you are pregnant??

Kathrino · 27/01/2016 08:58

Ha, no need to apologise Impy. It was more just a realisation of how totally and utterly unprepared I am for any baby that might or might not turn up in 9 months but I guess I have a lot of time to learn all about pockets and the like!

Chocaholic88 · 27/01/2016 08:57

ct implantation? Then again I've had that feeling a few times in the last 3 or 4 weeks lol
