Is waiting before ttc (metaphorically) killing anybody else or is it just me?!

Hi there,

My husband and I have been talking about ttc late this year after I (quite surprisingly) became very bloody last year but I gotta say the wait is killing me! It's all I can think about & I know I should be using this time to knock a few things off the pre-baby list (lose weight, travel etc) but I just want to start ttc now! It's making me quite moody actually. We've got a Baby bucket list holiday planned for November so realistically I know we can't try but I guess it's just getting to me a bit at the moment. Is it just me?

Took me about a month th pluck up the courage to mention it to dp. I first broached the subject after some drinks and said "I'm really jealous of all these new babies ppl have" it was too subtle he didn't get the hint . So after about a week I text him from work and said when I get to target (slimmingworld) we should have another dexter" he agreed n was really up for the idea phew! At that time I hadn't set a target at fat club but now I have so I've booked to get the coil out. My god its hard work to actually get an appointment to take it out, feels like they are making me wait even longer than I already have to ttc. I need to time it right though cannot get pregnant in may because we already have dexter's birthday in Jan April would make a December baby which is rubbish for them having a bday so close to Christmas. So I have to try really hard to wait til June. 😢who am I kidding, as soon as it's out I'm trying!

I'm so broody and waiting for the OH to be ready is as you say, metaphorically killing me! I'm off the pill for other reasons in October 15 and was worried i wasn't ovulating due to the way my periods were so got hold of some OPKs and got a very strong positive last night (the day the tests arrived so no opportunity to do it earlier although i'm on CD13). Luckily my cycles seem to have gone straight back to 28 days but really light and short too hence checking to see if i'm actually ovulating. I know of others who quite a few months down the road are still waiting for their cycles to return so might be worth thinking about stopping those horrible chemical hormones sooner.
How do you get your OH on board with TTC without him freaking?! Am hoping he comes around after his trip away in May! Edging ever closer but worried he'll freak and not be happy about it!
I've been losing weight since not being on the pill as just not hungry an more - used to graze all day. Getting my body and mind ready will stand me in good stead when he's ready so i can pounce!! Grin xx

Hi all,

I just thought I would add my two cents as someone who was waiting to ttc. I came off the pill in Feb last year. My cycles have settles to either 27 or 28 days but it took 8 months to get to that point. We started ttc in July after a holiday and the wait was awful. I wish I had started tracking my cycles and pre af symptoms before this point as the first few two week waits were just an obsession with symptom spotting! Here we are, into cycle 8 and still not pregnant. This waiting bit is far harder than waiting to ttc. I'm very much a "want something so go get it" person. Even now though I still have doubts. It's normal.
To the person who thinks being 4 months pregnant will not interfere with their wedding dress - think again! I looked huge at 4 months with my first! Even at 4 weeks the bloating can make you look very pregnant!

physicskate · 31/01/2016 17:56

Oh we are in a similar boat! Married a year and a half. We just bought our first house, but we have a huge trip planned in July, for which I would rather not be very pregnant. Have negotiated an April TTC with the husband (I low-balled him with March, cause he needs time to get used to certain ideas).

This will (hopefully) result in our first. And now that I know it's coming, I just can't wait! IUD came out in November because it was so painful. I'm secretly hoping I could already be pregnant, as we have not been all that great with our (temporary) birth control situation.

I feel guilty being on TTC threads as we are not actually TTC YET, but I'm just really excited!

Wanderer1789 · 31/01/2016 17:05

Like pp, I am getting married in October this year - so we're having to wait to TTC so I can still fit in my dress! Grin

We have decided to ttc from June, as I would be a maximum of four months at that point and it won't interfere with my wedding dress. This would be baby #3 for me, baby #1 for him!

I have the implant in atm, that's coming out in May to give my body a month's breathing space.

Flamingoblue1 · 31/01/2016 10:14

Hello, feel your pain. Getting a lot of pressure from family too doesn't help! Married I'm September and came off pill in October. First period came after 67 days still waiting on another one! Cannot even be bothered POAS as it will be negative!

Jessicajane83 · 31/01/2016 08:39

I know what you mean about spending years trying to not get pregnant and now wanting to. Or being contraceptive free!

Jessicajane83 · 31/01/2016 08:37

If you're a vegetarian or don't eat certain meat products it's a big problem when it doesn't state which animal it came from. I don't eat pork for a variety of personal reasons.

nataliefruit · 30/01/2016 17:34

Of course, when you say it it seems so obvious!

I did think about coming off earlier but I've got a lot on the next couple of weeks & I'd rather have balanced hormones so I'll finish the strip (i hope I don't regret this decision in a few months!)

I know exactly what you mean about it feeling a little wrong / scary cockermum. After years of doing our best to avoid getting pregnant it's now ok to be relaxed about it! Confused

Nataliefruit , POAS is pee on a stick. It's taken me a lot of reading to catch up on the abbreviations! If you're thinking of July is come off soon - to be honest I wish I'd done it sooner. I'd read 3months is enough but I don't think it is! The thing I'm finding now is after trying not to get pregnant for so many years it still feels a little wrong... Although I want a family, getting pregnant seems so scary. 😳

nataliefruit · 30/01/2016 16:22

Hi all,

Cockermum it's really interesting to read your post as I'm also on mycrogynon. We're Hoping to ttc around July (which is earlier than we'd originally agreed Grin) so I'm coming off the pill at the end of my current strip (just about 2 weeks left - which is kind of scary when I think about it after waiting so long!!) I'm thinking it's better to come off and let my cycles get back to normal as I've been on it for 16 years now. I know what you mean about not being in a rush but I think once you realise that's what you want you can't help it - you just see babies everywhere!

I've got a holiday booked for April which I really can't wait for so I'm going to start taking vits when I come back. What does POAS stand for? I'm still getting used to the terms Grin

Jessicajane83 - what's the problem with gelatine? I'm taking seven seas trying to conceive and I've just started (10 days ago) Angus Castus to see if it helps me regulate my cycle.

Usernamegone · 30/01/2016 12:39

I'm getting married in October this year. Would love to ttc now but paying for a wedding and maternity leave in the same year would killed us off financially.

Went see the GP on Thurs as have been extremely fatigued and she suggested I POAS just in case. POAS this morning and it was negative (and was sad even though this is not the right time for us)

Jessicajane83 · 30/01/2016 09:32

I know what you mean. I've just come off contraception and am waiting for a normal period. Also have a big holiday in the summer. All I can think about is DTD like like nymphomaniac . Taking vitamins but just discovered the one I got has gelatine so have to look for another....sigh

cockermum85 · 30/01/2016 09:01

Hey,

I'm in this very situation. DH turned 30 in August and he got really broody. To be honest I was never sure but seeing him really want one made me realise I did so in September I came off Mircogynon after 14 years. My cycle is really unsettled now, first was 28 days, second 35 and the last was 56 days!
I would recommend coming off any hormonal contraception and starting to let your cycle sort itself out. We have a big holiday sorted for early July so we want to start TTC at my next OV (as I won't be too pregnant to holiday) but now I have no idea when it might be.

I'm trying convince myself that I'm not in a rush to conceive but now I really want it and everywhere I go I see babies and everyone is pregnant and I'm even convincing myself that I'm going to struggle but we've not even tried!!!

Basically I think deciding TTC does weird things drives you bonkers.

Jessicajane83 · 29/01/2016 06:52

Hi Nataliefruit.

IUD is even worse...it's been up the foufou for three years! Yes I am taking supplements. Nurse said sooner the better. Also cutting down on the caffeine! Wink

nataliefruit · 28/01/2016 22:41

Hey Yvonne, I've heard that it can take a long time for cycles to return to normal after coming off the pill so I'vep planned a few months to hopefully get it back to normal & take some supplements & llae weight while I wait.

Does anyone have almost like moments of doubt as the time to come off the pill gets closer? I know I want a little one but I think I just panic slightly thinking of pregnancy!

nataliefruit · 28/01/2016 22:34

Welcome Jessicajane :)

Its reassuring that it's not just me going mad! Grin Have you started to take supplements yet?

Love the 'wave it in my face' comment - like you'd want a super close up view of the metal stick that's been sat inside your arm for years! Hmm

Fingers crossed your cycles get back to normal quickly.

Yvonne1986 · 28/01/2016 22:20

I would come of the pill asap, I waited until six months before we actually wanted to TTC and so far it's been four months and I've only had two periods! After waiting so long before TTC it really is so upsetting having such long cycles and not knowing if I'm actually ovulating! I found from lots of posts on here that it takes much longer than most people imagine for your cycle to get back to normal post pill!

Having said that you always hear of people who do manage to get pregnant quickly so you may have to use an alternative method xx

Jessicajane83 · 28/01/2016 20:44

Hi I'm a newbie. We decided over Xmas that we want to TTC. Had to wait for an appt until today to get IUD removed. That was much easier than putting the thing in. Even if she did wave it on my face post removal Confused. Want to get a 'normal' period before TTC but I want to jump on the DH right now!

nataliefruit · 18/01/2016 20:31

Hi Starky, I'm planning On downloading that app when I come off the pill in May so I can get to grips with my cycle again. I can imagine it must be scary actively trying to get pregnant after years of avoiding it! Shock

Where you off to Gummybunting?

& thanks alicescarlett for the translation Grin

StarkyTheDirewolf · 18/01/2016 12:42

What I would suggest though, is that you start tracking your cycle. Ovia is excellent and free. So that when you do start ttc, you have some idea of cycle length and your af symptoms. So that when you do start ttc, you know where you're up to better. I started tracking about 18 months ago and it's been really helpful, not just so I know when I'm due on, but that I know when, in my mind, I'm a week "late" I'm not actually late, I'm just having one of my longer cycles. I spent my early twenties terrified of falling pregnant, and now I'm actively ttc, I've realised it's much harder than I thought! Grin

nataliefruit · 18/01/2016 12:26

Thanks guys, I think I was just having a moment of frustration at the weekend but in the grand scheme of things a few months is not that long & it gives me time to lose some weight etc Smile

StarkyTheDirewolf · 18/01/2016 00:29

The nightmare with waiting is...the waiting. Before we decided I cajoled Dh into ttc the wait was ridiculous, because I was counting every day until we did! And to be honest, it doesn't get any better when actually ttc! The waiting is definetly the worst bit. Enjoy your time before you start and have amazing holidays!

GummyBunting · 17/01/2016 21:43

Ugh yes! We have an active holiday planned in may that would be ruined if I were pregnant so we're waiting until after. It's so difficult!
