Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

friendly, it has to be first thing every morning as its the basal body temperature you would be tracking, and you have to check it before you get out of bed or even sit up. I just have the thermometer on the bedside table and when my DD starts chatting in the morning I take my temp before getting up to get her.

Good news is that I saw a temp rise today, so probably ovulated yesterday, only a day later than I thought. This is only my second cycle temping (the first I fell pregnant with DD), so maybe my luteal phase is a day shorter than FF predicts and is only 13 days and my ovulation is normally CD 15 or 16.

I'm only temping for this cycle and next, though, to make sure things are still working. Not sure I could keep it up long term, though it is interesting to see. I have super regular cycles, though, otherwise temping for one or two wouldn't be as helpful.

FriendlyGhost · 18/03/2016 20:05

That's really useful. Thank you Wispa. I'm going to start this tomorrow I think so that I can see if I'm actually ovulating yet. I know that AF can return without ovulation when breastfeeding so it will hopefully tell me if i am. My cycles aren't particularly regular yet either so it will be interesting to keep track. Do you take your temperature at the same time each day?

wispaxmas · 18/03/2016 19:53

friendly, this is a really textbook temp chart - lower temp pre-ovulation with a dip just before O, then a rise caused by progesterone in your system. If it's not a successful cycle progesterone will fall off after an average of 13 days or so, temp will fall, and the lack of progesterone and HCG will trigger AF. The second photo is my chart this cycle, and if nothing else I'm ovulating later than expected!

Lurking too. I tried and failed to avoid December last time (miscalculated dates slightly as I must ovulate later in my cycle than average!) but actually having a December baby is lovely and it makes Christmas really special. I don't want two birthdays on one month though!
So talk to me about temperature to tell when you're ovulating. I want to see if I can tell this month. Should it be consistent and then rise while ovulating? Sorry-I'm clueless!

TheresaMarie55 · 18/03/2016 15:59

I'm still here but lurking a little haha. I take my last pill in my second to last packet today so then only one pack to go 😁 x

Devgal · 18/03/2016 14:39

It is quiet! I can't say I am too bothered with Christmas baby or not really! Is anyone else in their TWW? I am in my first and going slightly mad with symptom spotting at only 5dpo! Ovia is telling me to test in a week, but with irregular cycles I don't know if I should try to hold out for AF (although not sure when that will be?) I am not feeling too confident this cycle, only as it is the first one and I am not quite sure if we got timings right.

wispaxmas · 18/03/2016 14:15

It's quiet in here, I hope it's just because no one wants a Christmas baby Grin

No temp rise this morning, so I'm confused and suddenly jumping to the conclusion that I'm no longer ovulating normally! Probably not true, and I'll probably see a rise in the next couple days, but it's definitely thrown me. I've not been tracking any other signs, and don't plan to, but if temping doesn't give me a clear idea of when I'm ovulating I might start looking at other means of tracking by May.

wispaxmas · 16/03/2016 15:05

Pointless, you just need to know which day you ovulate, either through tracking signs, using OPKs, or temping. The average is 14 days, but I would hazard a guess that while some people have a longer luteal phase it couldn't be much longer as its down to progesterone levels after ovulating and they drop towards the end of the TWW.

wispaxmas · 16/03/2016 15:02

Hiya newbies!

CD14 here and I had a temp drop this morning, so probably ovulating tomorrow as thought and DH is in Paris until Friday. No problemo, it's more of a relief than anything as DH thinks we're trying now and I've suddenly wanted to wait until May. Anyways, by May I'll have been taking folic acid for 3 months, so perfect time, really!

FriendlyGhost · 16/03/2016 09:18

Hello! Can I join? I have just persuaded DH to start trying. I already have a dd (15 months) and as I'm still breastfeeding I don't even know if I'm ovulating yet but I've had 3 AFs now so hopefully. I'm going to wait until April because I already have one December baby and I feel guilty about how close she is to Christmas. Don't think I could cope with another birthday around then! Means I can probably start trying in just over a month. Exciting!

Pointlessfan · 16/03/2016 07:29

Welcome Mbire!
Wispa I have no idea! How would I work that out? We actually DTD on Monday so if I was ovulating you never know... Meant to be having a month off this month too!

Mbire · 15/03/2016 19:11

Hello ladies.
I really hope I am on the right thread as I have just joined.
I have technically been Ttc since September '15 but for the first few months relied on Ovia. My cycle however is a little different which I found out after trying the ovulation sticks and I seem to be ovulating around day 18 so I really only count as starting from January. Just got AF today so another month gone.
I went for some blood tests which came out normal. Am trying to reassure myself as really we were concentrating on day 10-14 and I don't ovulate til 18/19 each month so it's only the past three months I feel we have 'nailed it'😉
Am so disappointed today though. Really thought that this month would be good and made it to day 30 with no AF.
I also have had a few periods where it wil start very lightly on time, then stop and not return for another 5/6 days. This is very annoying as I don't know what day I'm on or which date to count from. (Have also gotten excited and mistaken it for implantation more than once)
Next month we will be apart for ovulation which is also a pain!
Sorry for the negative post!! It's just the day that's in it. Will be fine tomorrow .

wispaxmas · 15/03/2016 14:40

pointless, that would make your LP 20 days long, which doesn't seem plausible. Usually the LP will be the same cycle to cycle and any variation in cycle length will be down to how long there is before O.. Maybe you'll have a shorter cycle this time, do you know how long your LP usually is?

Wheresmybippers · 14/03/2016 19:35

I've not even thought about it. Only managed healthy start for about half of the first 12 weeks as I was so ill.

Pointlessfan · 14/03/2016 19:35

I was looking longingly at my bag of maternity clothes and even my breast pump in the loft last week!
You've reminded me I've completely forgotten my folic acid over the weekend.
Bit confused today as I had a bit of a tummy pain and what seems to be EWCM but only on day 8 of cycle which seems a bit early. Is it possible to ovulate before day 14 but still have a 28 day cycle?

TheresaMarie55 · 13/03/2016 20:08

I've still not started the folic acid. Will pick some up tomorrow x

Vanillaradio · 13/03/2016 19:32

I have a big bag of maternity clothes in the loft just waiting to come down if and when necessary Grin. Only a few more weeks and I will have been on the folic acid for 3 months so can properly think about starting. Went out with friends today who have 2 kids and really made me envious (although ds currently says no with some force when asked if he wants a brother or sister! ) I'm currently leaning towards starting in earnest after our holiday (early May ) but may drop the contraception for April and see what happens!

raddersmrs · 13/03/2016 16:25

I did the same ... I sorted my wardrobe out and things I was going to throw out I kept when I thought oh they will be good when I have a bump! Exciting though isn't it.

Very exciting for you Theresa, not long now. It will be here in no time!

TheresaMarie55 · 13/03/2016 14:21

I fell off the diet wagon the past few days 😳 oops. Oh well, back in now and don't feel to bad about it coz I had a fun weekend haha. Less than a weeks worth of pills left in this pack then I'm on my last pack 😁 . How can it be going fast yet dragging at the same time lol, doesn't make sense!!!

Wispa 🙊 had to laugh. If it makes you feel any better I was sorting through all my old clothes the other day and I've now got a designated drawer with all the clothes that will fit me when pregnant lol. X

wispaxmas · 12/03/2016 19:59

Oh, and I'm looking forward to squinting at more hpts!!!

wispaxmas · 12/03/2016 19:58

radders, it most definitely was a bargain, and it's versatile... I have a family wedding to go to next winter and I bought it thinking that I will hopefully be pregnant and given it's not my first baby I am likely to be bigger than I was with my first so even if it takes a few months TTC I'll probably need a maternity dress! And if things don't go to plan I could always wear it to work or an evening out.

Pointlessfan · 12/03/2016 18:57

Agree with not wanting to be in hospital at Xmas! I was on the maternity ward for ages last time and the food was terrible, I can't imagine Xmas dinner would be any better and yes I'd miss DD opening her pressies etc.

raddersmrs · 12/03/2016 14:35

Wispa that made me chuckle!!
Was it a bargain is that why you bought it ... That's allowed Wink

I'm on my tww now. Not symptom spotting but telling myself it's not going to happen first cycle and hardly had any CM so doubting it. Only time will tell. Can test on 23rd according to the morrisons test I just bought (4 days before AF) although I have the sticks that are more sensitive so may try and day earlier.

wispaxmas · 12/03/2016 12:45

WTF is wrong with me? I've just ordered a maternity dress??? I'm not even really TTC yet! I actually have a problem. I need to be stopped. Shock

SoozC · 12/03/2016 08:43

As a Reception teacher, I had some children start school in September and turn 5 almost immediately and some children start but had just turned 4. Add the year goes on, the August birthdays do still seem immature in terms of body control (tripping over lots!) and speech (they sound babyish, if you know what I mean) but the youngest boy in my class is turning into one of my best writers and his reading is great. So don't worry about old/young, imo, because if the parents support their child at home then their child will progress regardless. Just read with your kids several times a week, use mathematical vocabulary relating to time and money with them, count things, model adding... These are the things that will help them progress!
